I just got this email from my daughters school, apparently a lot of schools are doing it by what I've seen on Facebook today!

Yes they are.

Ds still wants to get in on time anyway but I think it’s a great idea. This isn’t any old football game, I am no football fan at all but even I can see the importance of this game.

After the last 18 months it’s nice to have something to get excited about as a nation.

Schools and workplaces (who can!) showing some flexibility makes sense. This way people will just go in later otherwise a lot would just take the day off

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 09/07/2021 15:26

It's a great idea! I've booked the morning off work in case it gets messy! I said that if we lose in normal time, I'll be in though.

HeavenHotel · 09/07/2021 15:27

I'd be straight on the phone!!!

HOW DARE THEY

England last made the finals in 1984 & 2009!!!!

Oh does that not count sexist masochist head teacher, because it's the women's team!!!

Twat!

Grin
WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 09/07/2021 15:29

Is it not an apostrophe because it is

Let us hope it is coming home?

Yep my daughters school is doing the 10.30am start time Monday

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/07/2021 15:35

@AnotherDayAnotherCake

Nope. Just another way of dividing children up into those that are ‘allowed’ to stay up until 11pm and roll in late and then those that aren’t. So glad our school isn’t doing this.
🤣🤣🤣

what a ridiculous post
the ones who don't care and won't stay up late won't be overtired so there's no issue there at all.

It's the "Parent's" that's wrong.

Good that they're recognising that the women's team has done better than the men's. I wonder if pupils got time off for those matches as well?

BUT it shouldn't be home work to ask your parents to put your photo on Facebook!!

proopher · 09/07/2021 15:39

I can't believe how bad the grammar is! So unprofessional coming from a school, in my opinion.

LadyCatStark · 09/07/2021 15:40

No but perhaps they could use the time to brush up on their grammar 😱.

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 09/07/2021 15:41

@WhatATimeToBeAlive I didn't see that one, thanks! I was going mad as I'm usually good at apostrophes and could only see that one!

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 09/07/2021 15:41

Blimey a glaring error now I've looked properly! That's embarrassing

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 09/07/2021 15:41

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba in my DC’s school it’s exactly the sort of thing that kids will take the piss out of those not allowed to stay up and made to come in early.

DadOnIce · 09/07/2021 15:44

UGH. So that's one email from a headteacher with an aberrant apostrophe and another using the expression 'lay-in'. It's LIE-IN, you twats. Honestly, illiteracy among teachers gives me the utter rage.

Lay instead of lie winds me right up and it's endemic now. I see more "lay" than "lie".

"I was laying on the bed". Were you? Must be interesting being part human and part chicken.

but it's not about not being allowed to stay up late.

if they want to, they can
if they don't want to stay up late then they won't.
I don't get what the problem is.

And if there's any bullying the teachers & school should step up.

mindutopia · 09/07/2021 15:49

It's a nice gesture, but mine will be there at 8:30 as normal because dh and I need to work (one of the only families in the school with two FT working parents, so I suspect she'll be on her own!).

DadOnIce · 09/07/2021 15:51

I wonder if the same rule would be applied to children who had stayed up until midnight to queue for a book (as used to happen with the new Harry Potters when they came out) or some other non-footballing activity?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/07/2021 15:51

Not here. It would interfere with the Covid bubbles. Plus most of the school is accessed through the nursery playground...

BlueChampagne · 09/07/2021 15:53

It's a nice thought, but not much help when everyone else in the family has to get up anyway.
