I just got this email from my daughters school, apparently a lot of schools are doing it by what I've seen on Facebook today!

Is your school letting kids come to school late on Monday?

isn't the final on saturday?
why would anyone more rest on monday?
we will be watching for the italian anthem anyway

LittleBlackCat22 · 09/07/2021 17:13

I’ve just this second for a text from my school saying kids don’t need to be in till 10am. We don’t watch football but we do love a lie in so I’m not complaining!

Because the game us 8pm Sunday.

Is it not "Football's coming home"? That's what got me, but my SPAG isn't great.

Mojitofairy · 09/07/2021 17:15

Primary is. It’s hardly the teachers wanting time off as they will all be in school anyway. More that they know if they don’t allow a bit of flexibility, some families will just not turn up at all. This way it’s giving them permission to be late so they may at least get the kids in for some learning rather than none, and possibly less troublesome too.
DS wants to stay up but he is a miserable beast when tired and still gets up with the sun. If he sleeps in then it’s nice to know I don’t have to wake him but I’m doubtful. I’m not saying anything to the kids either way, we will see how it all works out. Fortunately I can drop them off whenever as I don’t work on a Monday.

Eggsley · 09/07/2021 17:15

Yes, primary school - children can be in any time up to 10.15am and they are allowed to wear football kits or red, white and blue on Monday if England win.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 09/07/2021 17:17

Dd's primary has sent the same text out today. Dh will probably watch football but we're both working Monday morning so she could do with going in at normal time. Tbf monday is sports day at school so I doubt she'll miss much there.

Christ you can tell who the party poopers are on this thread

ahoyshipmates · 09/07/2021 17:17

Oh dear. Grin

That missive is so full of errors it is a learning opportunity in its own right.

Most of the schools in our area are self isolating anyway up until the end of term now.

Dustyboots · 09/07/2021 17:20

*Ridiculous.

Party hard, work hard. Not a school I would like to send my kids to, doesn't set the bar very high does it?*

Ha ha @BobbieNo

DH's work has said they can all work half a day and have the morning off on the Monday too. Perhaps he should find another job - clearly they're setting their bar too low.

NewYearmorestress · 09/07/2021 17:20

Yes, but as DC hates football and won't watch it and neither I or OH are getting a late start on Monday because football, DC will be in at usual time

Wrotten · 09/07/2021 17:22

Yes. But my son is only 5 so not particularly interested.

Thankfully, as he's been isolating this week and I can't wait to get rid of him!

PositiveLife · 09/07/2021 17:22

Nope. In fact they've texted to make it clear that they expect all kids in/logged on to online learning at the normal time.

Sometimesonly · 09/07/2021 17:23

If that is a notice actually sent by the school they should be embarrassed that they

  • forgot about the women's football
  • can't use apostrophes
  • the football isn't even on late in the UK!!
Angel2702 · 09/07/2021 17:24

Ours are in at normal time but can wear an Italy or England top if they want to.

GameSetMatch · 09/07/2021 17:24

Yes, we can send children as normal or anytime before 10.30. I don’t mind it’s the last week of term!

TonkinLenkicks · 09/07/2021 17:25

I love how there’s so little joy on this thread. Send your kids in at normal time if you have an issue with it. We will be having a nice leisurely morning and dropping him off at half 10. I think it’s great and a morale boost for the kids after a shite year

it could potentially drag out until about 10.30 pm, which is past bedtime for most primary aged kids, especially infants.

mine stayed up on Wednesday and couldn't settle until about 11pm, they were quite moody yesterday morning.
they had a very early night yesterday😁

iolaus · 09/07/2021 17:29

No (but we're in Wales so wouldn't - many of the kids will still watch it because they love football)

However I've taken my son to evening international matches before - other members of his class were also there. They all were in school for the start time without an issue (few yawns maybe in class but nothing major)

NotKeenOnFootball · 09/07/2021 17:30

It’s a game of football not VE Day!

Right? It's half a morning off right at the end of the school year! It's hardly the whole day or week off Hmm

My children don’t seem capable of sleeping in so it wouldn’t help. Why don’t they have the football on in the afternoon anymore, why at night?
