Would any welsh MNs be up for our own subforum?

I know we are not as numerous but we are enthusiastic! MN currently has a Craicnet and a Scotsnet but no Walesnet! If you think this would be something you'd use please comment here or on the post below in site stuff (or on both!). Any name suggestions also welcome - Ddraignet was one, or the more traditional Walesnet/Cymrunet?

You wouldn't even have to be Welsh/living in Wales - it would be a good resource for people looking for holiday advice for example.

Hwntws

"I don't like taffnet either. FWIW, I'm welsh by parentage, birthplace and mother tongue, but I'm a Gog"

Taff/Taffy is a nickname for all Welsh people, wherever they're from. I don't like it myself as it's often used pejoratively so I wouldn't like that name either, but it doesn't mean south Walian.

Gwenhwyfar · 09/07/2021 20:59

@Helacnau

Hwntws
Yes, but hwntws isn't understood by non-Welsh speakers in the way that 'Gogs' is.
Wtfdidwedo · 09/07/2021 21:01

Count me in!

TroysMammy · 09/07/2021 21:03

Count me in too.

MrsDThomas · 09/07/2021 21:09

I think Y Ddraig Goch is a great name.

Its what Wales is about. The passion for what is on that flag.

I feel like Michael Sheen giving a passionate address to the nation in that deep, soulful voice.

Fangdango · 09/07/2021 21:18

@GogLais

I can't think of a single pub called Y Ddraig Goch, Most seem to have english names like Red Lion or Kings Head.

Maybe something like WelshNet might be better.

How do you define welshness?

To some it will be by parentage, some by being born in Wales, and others by fluency in the language.

I don't like taffnet either. FWIW, I'm welsh by parentage, birthplace and mother tongue, but I'm a Gog.

Google says there's a few of them around, Welsh and English versions. Can't think of any typical Welsh pub name - just seemed like a pub name that would communicate Welshness. I'd worry a Welsh language only name might look like a language thread?

If we have a proper North-South falling out about the name, will that tip the balance and persuade Mumsnet we'd make good use of a board? Wink

Gassylady · 09/07/2021 21:51

Count me in, as well, please! I’d love to talk about all things Wales.

I definitely want to know if any of you have recently visited Raglan Castle? If you have, is it worth the visit?

Agreed on Mamsnet!

DerisorySnort · 10/07/2021 11:30

Not sure about Mamsnet: it won't necessarily be clear to everyone that it's Wales centric.

GogLais · 10/07/2021 11:54

NetMam/NetMamau would make more sense.

FlaminEckVera · 10/07/2021 12:08

I live very close to the Welsh border, and visit there fairly regularly, so it's a YES from me. Grin I LOVE Wales! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳🏴🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

@GogLais

NetMam/NetMamau would make more sense.
Too close to Netmums I suspect. Also, there are now plenty of us on here who aren't mothers. Mumsnet has morphed into a women's forum more than a parenting one, at least the Talk section.
