Would any welsh MNs be up for our own subforum?

I know we are not as numerous but we are enthusiastic! MN currently has a Craicnet and a Scotsnet but no Walesnet! If you think this would be something you'd use please comment here or on the post below in site stuff (or on both!). Any name suggestions also welcome - Ddraignet was one, or the more traditional Walesnet/Cymrunet?

You wouldn't even have to be Welsh/living in Wales - it would be a good resource for people looking for holiday advice for example.

This would be fab. And well overdue, there are so many devolved issues that this would be useful for Wales specific topics on education, childcare funding, health care etc.

Christmasbird · 08/07/2021 14:27

Ydw, a diolch!!

Butwhhhyyyyyyy · 08/07/2021 14:28

Sure, I'm in

110APiccadilly · 08/07/2021 14:39

Yes, definitely.

Are there any restrictions on posting in Welsh, btw? I can totally understand if it's a moderation problem, but a WL thread or two in our Draignet would be nice (and might be a good way for learners to get some extra practice).

GogCymraeg · 08/07/2021 14:48

yes, certainly, a separate section is needed. We have different education and health systems in Wales and a very different Government to the one in Westminster.

SionnachRua · 08/07/2021 14:50

@110APiccadilly

Yes, definitely.

People occasionally post in Irish over on Craicnet, which seems to be fine with the mods. Sure they can always run it through Google translate if needed, I suppose.

Not Welsh in the slightest but I support ye lot getting your own corner of MN. 😛

Roomforanotherraspberry · 08/07/2021 14:51

I’m English but live in Wales, lm interested, love Ddraignet and cwtchnet as names too.

DerisorySnort · 08/07/2021 14:56

Yes, please, count me in!
I'm not a native, but have lived here for nearly 20 years and have no plans to leave.

Please can we start with a bunfight over whether it should be 'cwtch' or 'cwtsh'?

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 08/07/2021 14:59

Yes please!

BarbaraPapa · 08/07/2021 14:59

@randomlyLostInWales

Palavah - thanks - I've not seen that site before.
I much preferred Say Something in Welsh to Duolingo, because it teaches in (more or less) complete sentences, through repetition, so your brain gets into the habit of remembering chunks of useful dialogue. The drawback is that if you just download the podcasts without referring to the online written material, you don't 'see' how the words are spelled/formed, which can make it a bit of a shock when you try to read the same thing you've been merrily speaking aloud.
BrieAndChilli · 08/07/2021 15:01

I live in Wales and have for 20 years but am English and don't speak welsh beyond the odd word! am I allowed in?

Mrsorganmorgan · 08/07/2021 15:15

Yes please

gillysSong · 08/07/2021 15:18

I'm not Welsh, but I asked for an ongoing Welsh thread as I hope to move there next year and want to find out more about specific places, language and history.
If non Welsh are welcome then I'm in. My grandma and her dad were both Welsh, then we go right back to the 1600's.

user1471463807 · 08/07/2021 15:19

Yes please, if you will allow someone who supported the England football team last night despite living in Wales for 25 years!!

WelshDaffodil · 08/07/2021 15:20

Deffo, love the idea of Cwtch in the name. Our own little Welsh haven :) (and the Welsh are a friendly lot, so everyone else welcome too :) )

Fantastic idea, I started learning what I thought was the Welsh know today, but ended up with a language not spoken since the 60's. I had no idea the two would be different (doh)
Gwenhwyfar · 08/07/2021 15:24

I think I started a thread on this ages ago and there was no interest. Glad to see that's changed!

hellswelshy · 08/07/2021 15:27

Yes definitely would love that!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 08/07/2021 15:28

I like Y Cwtch as a name

afaloren · 08/07/2021 15:57

I’d love it! I’m not Welsh but am learning the language and visit whenever I can! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

LaMarschallin · 08/07/2021 16:08

Yes please!

Timeforanewnamemethinks · 08/07/2021 16:15

Bendigedig!
I'd love this!
I moved away to England for Uni and I grew up not learning Welsh. I found it hard during the lockdowns not having the same rules and not being able to see my mum and brother. I never thought I'd be 'banned' from my homeland.Sad
One upside though, I've been learning Welsh via Duo Lingo and Dysgu Cymraeg and watching a bit of S4C with sub titles.

Gracesquirrel · 08/07/2021 16:24

Tip for anyone learning Welsh or wanting to learn Welsh is watch Pobol Y Cwm with English subtitles - they have even had a Welsh learner as a character on there! You can watch it live on S4C or catchup online via S4C Clic.

Bobbiebigbum · 08/07/2021 16:25

Yep

Blowingagale · 08/07/2021 16:42

I have no connection to Wales but find Crainet and Scotsbet interesting to hear other views and what happens with education and health, like how Highers were handled last year and the tiers Covid threads on Scotsnet.
