Weird letter received

DH received this letter in the post today in a used NHS envelope that was stuck down with sellotape. Both of us are stumped to why it's been sent as I've googled and Mankind doesn't look to be part of NHS and the number is correct but the message on the letter has freaked us out,

has anyone ever had anything similar to this?

Could be a scam? Maybe the number is a premium rate one? What area code is it?

me4real · 06/07/2021 22:48

Anyone in work have a thing for him?

@Thegirlthatwanted2begod @thebattleofschrutefarms It's presumably an ex as they say 'come back to me' i.e he was with them before.

ThickAndTired · 06/07/2021 22:48

I am thinking that if the gay couple are male it could be to do with them. One of them has an ex who wants to break up the relationship, or had a fling with someone unstable who knows where his target lives but not his name, and has got hold a name from the doorbell, electoral roll or somewhere and sent it to the wrong person.

TheFoundations · 06/07/2021 22:48

I would contact Mankind, too, to see if anybody else has reported similar.

It's really compelling, this. You must be fully baffled, OP.

Have you still got the envelope? I'm wondering if there's anything revealing on there that you've missed?

Thegirlthatwanted2begod · 06/07/2021 22:49

As far as I know no issues with anyone at work, he's a proper gentle giant and goes over and beyond work for people, but his colleagues are from what he's told me are just that, colleagues and he would be embarrassed if anyone had a crush on him or whatever, as far as I know he's never mentioned anything at work about our relationship as he doesn't have those sort of talks with his team, he's not a manager so hasn't sacked anyone or upset anyone.

Regarding envelope, no identifying details at all

As they've not put your DH's first name, I'd be thinking it's more someone trying to cause trouble for you. They know your name and surname, but don't know your DH's.

Is it someone you know?

Re the Jehovah's Witnesses, the one we received had a link to their website.

paniniswapx3 · 06/07/2021 22:52

So bizarre. I'd ignore Op.

Laquila · 06/07/2021 22:58

It almost sounds like a quote from something...it's just not a very natural thing to write, is it? Even if you used text-speak, you'd write "Leave her/him and come back 2 me", or even "Leave that dickhead and come back to me", or similar.

BrozTito · 06/07/2021 22:58

Oh wrong link, but it gives you an idea. They startd this due to the pandemic, sending weird cryptic stuff, guessing 'me' means god.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/07/2021 22:58

Does he deal with maternity patients in some way and wear a name badge?

HandsSpaceArse · 06/07/2021 23:00

Why as you to open it? Is he very lazy?

Also, you say he's always with you but later say that you both go out separately and on holiday separately - could you clarify?

Laquila · 06/07/2021 23:03

@BrozTito Why would Jehovah's Witnesses send that letter, though? What are they trying to achieve? Also, that Quora link is not what you'd call full of reliable advice 🤣

Thewishingchair123 · 06/07/2021 23:04

Thinking about it, I’m wondering about the significance of the nhs envelope as well.
If it was a wider movement, feels less likely to go for something like that.
If it’s somebody’s old envelope that they have simply reposted, the postmark date would be slightly older? Can you see the date?

Thegirlthatwanted2begod · 06/07/2021 23:06

@HandsSpaceArse

Less of accusatory tone pls, he asked me to open it as he was going into the shower and thought it was a pre paid prescription certificate which I would normally go and get for him as I finish work earlier than him.

Also reg the time together and going out, as there has been a pandemic for the last 18 months we have obviously been together majority of time when not at work, but we would go out separately or go on holiday with friends prior to the pandemic, we aren't glued to each other's hips but do enjoy our company together as well.

It does seem slightly odder now knowing he works for the NHS and it was sent in an NHS envelope...perhaps coincidence but seems very strange!

xprincessxjanetx · 06/07/2021 23:08

FWIW me and DH open each other's mail all the time. We have permission from each other as nothing to hide (not suggesting others do have something to hide - it's just how we are) and we do everything jointly regarding work, money etc as we have a business so no issues with seeing each other's mail.

I think a lot of MN'ers think everyone is the same regarding personal mail.

WingingItSince1973 · 06/07/2021 23:08

Oh for goodness sake. We get blamed for everything! No JWs wouldn't have sent a letter like that! Sorry OP I hope you get to the bottom of it. Could just be an old flame trying to unnerve you. Has he many exes?

xprincessxjanetx · 06/07/2021 23:10

Another fleeting thought of mine - could it be a colleague playing some (distasteful) practical joke and the NHS envelope is a little 'clue'?

lemmein · 06/07/2021 23:10

How weird Confused

OP does your DH's advisory role in maternity services have anything to do with abortions? Just thinking, that lot can be bat-shit!

TheFoundations · 06/07/2021 23:10

As they've not put your DH's first name, I'd be thinking it's more someone trying to cause trouble for you. They know your name and surname, but don't know your DH's

I was thinking this too. If it was someone who genuinely wanted him back, they'd have done something different than sending an unsigned letter. It's not a scam, because it's not advertising anything dodgy. I think this is someone who wants to remain anonymous, and goading you into thinking he's having an affair and telling horrible stories about you. They've put it in an NHS envelope to link it more strongly to him/his life.

So, the question is, have you sacked anyone recently, OP?

WingingItSince1973 · 06/07/2021 23:10

@BrozTito we don't send cryptic messages at all! We certainly wouldn't use code language. Sorry op to derail the thread. Xxx

WinterIsGone · 06/07/2021 23:10

It does seem slightly odder now knowing he works for the NHS and it was sent in an NHS envelope
Unless it's someone the OP knows. They know her DH works for the NHS, but don't know his first name. They think that by sending the letter, it'll cause discord.
