Just marvelling at my soda stream. We used to buy SO much sparkling water the amount of plastic was dreadful. I'm so glad I bought it! has really made life better.

Also my quartz worktops.... was a splurge but bloody hell my kitchen is a beautiful place to be now. I can't stop looking at them!

£20 donation to a cat charity in exchange for my beautiful girl nearly 15 years ago 😻

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/07/2021 14:02

8years ago we bought a second hand 8 man tent and other camping gear for £200. It had all been used once. Had many happy holidays in it over the years.
Upgraded to an inflatable tent last year. Just sold that 8 man tent... for £160.

Dyson cordless vacuum, so quick and easy to clean the whole house.
Dyson hairdryer- no need to straighten hair anymore.
Large Bouncy castle for the kids- keeps them entertained for hours.
Delonghi bean to cup coffee machine- keeps me going through these stressful times.

Willlowbanks · 04/07/2021 14:09

My car. I live rurally, and my life used to be like an eternal lockdown, unable do anything outside of the house except go for a walk Grin.

A pony for dd when she was being bullied at secondary school. We were lucky to live in a place where it was affordable. It gave her a whole new cohort of friends and lots of out of school weekend activities.
The bullying at school stopped (I won’t draw out the story) and she became happy and confident. She is in her late 40s now and HoD at a big comp. She is married with two great dc. That first pony was worth every penny he cost us.

Top of the list - my dogs !

Also - £350 for a horse rug which keeps him toasty warm and clean all though winter and he can stay out where he’s happy, and saves me mucking out !

Cordless stick Dyson and Hypnos mattresses- expensive but worth it.

NoProblem123 · 04/07/2021 14:21

And I second the Lumea laser hair remover - I’ve hardly shaved in 8 years - brilliant!

Buying an adjacent piece of rough moorland from a neighbour who was selling up. I'd dreamed of this for years. He said " Put a stick in the ground to show how much you want . " I gave the kids a garden cane and said "walk over the hill until I can't see you, stop when you hear the whistle ( mountain whistle we used to retrieve children from moors). We bought 3 acres for £2000 quid and thanks to topography the boundary is out of sight from the house.

As we had no savings and the current a/c was empty, I had to beg/ borrow the 2k from bank manager who disapproved and strongly advised me not to go ahead; the land can never be built on or developed so was therefore "worthless", according to him. I had to exert maximum charm to persuade him .

What I actually bought, was a landscape illusion. The illusion is of an unlimited wild horizon with glorious mountain backdrop, in a stunningly beautiful part of Scotland. A total steal.

The money I gave a very good friend so he could afford taking her daughter to a different city for a lung transplant. It meant he didn't have to go into debt and worry about paying for stuff while they were there and could focus on supporting her daughter. It still gives me the warm fuzzies thinking about it.

Heated under blanket for my bed. I absolutely love it.

A boot/shoe dryer for wet shoes. Has two little prongs that blow warm air into the shoes and cost £25. I can dry my sons' wet rugby boots in 10-20 mins rather than having eau de rugby boot percolate through my house trying to dry them on the radiators.

sqirrelfriends · 04/07/2021 14:32

Having the garden landscaped, its been a lifesaver over lockdown.

A home IPL device, no more ingrown hairs!

Stainless steel water bottles and cups for the whole family. I tasted some of DS's water and it was disgusting. Even the BPA free bottles make the water taste strange IMO.

LeanneBrownsLonelyBraincell · 04/07/2021 14:34

My rescue cats and a chunk of next doors garden.

They're all my pride and joy

Birminghambloke · 04/07/2021 14:45

Dyson fans and spa membership.
Prior to that an amazing mattress and feather bedding.

ElspethFlashman · 04/07/2021 14:57

Another thing I remembered: spending a couple of hundred on a consultation with a dermatologist.

She used a can of liquid nitrogen and burnt off blotchy pigmentation on my face there and then. Has improved my confidence to go bare faced so much.

Will definitely go back in the future if I have to - money very well spent.

davidrosejumper · 04/07/2021 15:15

White cotton bedding, as I associate it with being on holiday. Has done miracles for my sense of wellbeing and relaxation.

Blondiney · 04/07/2021 15:22

Adopting my three dogs, they pretty much saved my life and give me a reason to carry on.

Proper wellies! Toasty warm and comfortable to walk in all day long.

iPad. Used to scoff at the cult surrounding all things apple but this little thing is so bloody handy!

OhWhyNot · 04/07/2021 15:24

My cat. He cost £30 17 years ago 🥰 we live him to bits

My veneers £6500 17 years ago they are not the bright white tombstones and still look great

Aveeno cream no cream or oil has been as good for my skin especially in winter

OhWhyNot · 04/07/2021 15:25

*love him

Hen2018 · 04/07/2021 15:31

A series of ex battery rescue hens
Allotment subs
A replacement wood burning stove (we don’t have central heating)
7 feet long bunk beds for 2 x 6 feet + children
Yoghurt maker (Easy yo - just a posh flask really)
New kitchen units off EBay (the seller had over ordered). Had kitchen replastered, new units, sink and worktop for £800)

Hen2018 · 04/07/2021 15:34

And a divorce! That was definitely worth every penny.

mag2305 · 04/07/2021 16:17

Bit of a soppy one but signing up to Match for 6 months because that's how I met my husband Smile

AnonymousUser12 · 04/07/2021 16:28

My dog. Best most worthwhile money I've ever spent.

DeePlume · 04/07/2021 16:55

My house. It wasn't my choice to move but had to due to divorce. I absolutely love my new house and it was a major turning point in changing my mindset after the split.

Susannahmoody · 04/07/2021 17:09

House. Almost doubled in value in less than 10 years

Scaredycat87 · 04/07/2021 17:39

@StillSmallVoice

A small flat for my DS to live in. We took equity out of our hoke to buy it. He had serious mental health issues and substance abuse issues and was bouncing around from one shared house to another. Since he has had stable accommodation he has stopped drinking and using drugs, is working, ditched the dodgy mates, found a girlfriend and is happy.

Best money spent, ever.

I love this
