Just marvelling at my soda stream. We used to buy SO much sparkling water the amount of plastic was dreadful. I'm so glad I bought it! has really made life better.

Also my quartz worktops.... was a splurge but bloody hell my kitchen is a beautiful place to be now. I can't stop looking at them!

I've heard of other dentists who say sparkling water is bad for teeth

Mamanyt · 06/07/2021 15:54

@cricketmum84 I also have a "rollator," four wheels, hand brakes, and a seat, but the brakes have to be adjusted before I feel secure about using it. It was a gift from someone who no longer needs it. THAT will be lovely, allowing me to get out for short walks, sit down when I'm tired, then continue on!

I am discovering new ways to do old things, slowly. Although I'm expected to make a 95% recovery, I canNOT sit around like a bump on a frog's bottom waiting for that! I need to be up and doing!

Wool duvet (£150, reduced to £75). Have not been too hot or too cold since getting it. Posh bedlinen (£250 in total). The bed looks great, feels great and is always a pleasure to get in. A column fan (£35). A tenth of the price of an air cooler, but doesn't just get us through warm nights, the white noise helps DP to sleep.

Pricey running shoes (£140). They fit my custom orthotics and have worked together to get rid of constant pain in hips, back, ankle and associated tendinitis/bursitis.

Christinayangtwistedsister · 06/07/2021 17:18

My house, we designed it. My bed. Business class

angela99999 · 06/07/2021 17:42

@StillSmallVoice

A small flat for my DS to live in. We took equity out of our hoke to buy it. He had serious mental health issues and substance abuse issues and was bouncing around from one shared house to another. Since he has had stable accommodation he has stopped drinking and using drugs, is working, ditched the dodgy mates, found a girlfriend and is happy.

Best money spent, ever.

I agree, we have 4 DC and have helped them all buy properties, cost a lot but is money well spent. I'd much rather they had the dosh now than waited until we die when the government will also take a huge slice. Also, since we did this in 2006 they're all now comfortably housed and can move on when they're ready. It meant we had to leave our family home to raise the money but it was worth every pang of nostalgia when we think of that lovely house.
InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest · 06/07/2021 17:55

The adoption fees for our four rescue dogs. Hands down I could never spend better!

TokyoSushi · 06/07/2021 18:10

Obviously big things like our house, dog etc...

But Laura Mercier body soufflé. It's a ludicrous price for what is essentially moisturiser, but it smells so so good that it makes me smile every morning!

Excellent re wool duvet, just bought one today. Blurb even says useful for people experiencing night sweats. That's me!

40% sale on too Grin and natural but animal friendly.

Champagneforeveryone · 06/07/2021 18:44

Aside from ChampagneCat who is coming up to her one year adoption day (and is the apple of DH's eye) I would say two large glass dishes with plastic clip on lids from IKEA. We raw feed DDogs and these have been genuinely life changing for us, and all for around £5 each. Every day I look at them and marvel how we ever coped without them Grin

Backhills · 06/07/2021 18:58

The £10pa my running club costs me.

And the Eufy robovac of course

PaddleBoardingMomma · 06/07/2021 19:27

@JimLaheysWhiskeyBottle

This sounds very flashy, but my personal trainer. After two children, a husband who has high personal needs (a whole other thread) a demanding job, being overweight and rock bottom self confidence and self worth, he has changed my life. I adore my 2 hours on a Friday evening. He has fixed my wrecked stomach muscles so I no longer look 6 months pregnant, helped me to lose weight, given me confidence and taught me how to be systematic in my approach to things and life in general. I've just started MMA with him and I'm so very proud of myself. It was brutal training, but I couldn't stop smiling. I can't believe that I do the things I do at training. I don't tell anyone, as I still feel a bit wierd and like people would look at me and think "what's the point of that fatty training." But I've never felt better in my heart and my head. THE best money I've ever spent, even though it's incredibly self indulgent.
I love everything about this ❤️ well done for putting some time aside for YOU, you're nailing it xx
PaddleBoardingMomma · 06/07/2021 19:27

@Comedycook

Polarised prescription sunglasses
Ah this is mine too!
OhGiveUp · 06/07/2021 19:39

My breast reduction.
I went from a ridiculous LL cup to a C cup and it feels fabulous.
I can't stop buying pretty lacy bra's though after a lifetime of granny efforts.

alphasox · 06/07/2021 20:19

Very similar to others, so middle class!

  1. My American Fridge Freezer that is plumbed in and I couldn't cope without cold water and lots of ice anymore
  2. Superking bed with memory foam mattress and memory foam pillows. No more back ache and I don't even notice if the kids get in any more as there is so much space!
  3. My Northface winter coat which is like walking around with a waterproof duvet on and comes down to my knees. I barely take it off between November and April.
cricketmum84 · 06/07/2021 20:30

@Mamanyt yes I was very nervous with the three wheeler to start with, I had to push forward, brake then step repeatedly. I'm getting better at it now though :)

I know what you mean about not sitting around, I would love to get a bit more independence back but it's still early days for me. Am thinking about getting a scooter next!

DerisorySnort · 06/07/2021 20:52

A home gym! Cost me £lots but I use it most days.

Also, like many others, my beautiful, wonderful dog. He is a constant joy and has vastly improved my mental and physical health.

And expensive wallpaper for my bedroom, £95 per roll. Makes me happy every day.

Mamanyt · 06/07/2021 20:52

It is very early days for me, as well! I had my stroke in mid-May, and was home again on...I THINK...June 3rd. I'm told I should make a 90-95% recovery over the next few months. It seems slow, but I know I'm doing far better than could have been expected.

Scooter sounds WONDERFUL, and would really open the world up to you.

Feel free to PM me any time to compare notes!

BirdsandBeesmakinghay · 06/07/2021 21:33

I want a wonderful bed and mattress, and a wonderful dog! Would love to know the make of beds which have changed people’s lives. I’ve been looking for a dog for years but don’t have 6 foot fences and have a cat.
I don’t think I could cope with a puppy.
Agree about helping children buy a place to live . We are thinking about doing this soon.

AngelDelight28 · 06/07/2021 21:36

Lots of things...

Our house. No more renting! The feeling of not being beholden to a landlord and being able to do the house up the way we want is amazing.

The dog's adoption fee. He's the best dog ever.

GHD Platinum Plus straighteners. My hair has never looked so good.

A £7 egg cooker bought on a whim from the middle isle in Lidl. Just pick a setting and the eggs get made exactly to my liking, never too runny or over-boiled, and no faffing with boiling water.

All the money I've spent on various sports clubs and trips for competitions/camps. Unforgettable memories and being fit made it easier to bounce back after having a baby.

VerbenaGirl · 06/07/2021 21:42

Not skimping on summer bedding plants for the garden - brings me such joy to see them every day and brings our small garden to life.

FoodologistGirl · 06/07/2021 21:50

Our new bathroom. We got someone in to do it whereas normally we would have done the DIY ourselves and always never quite finish the jobs. We designed it exactly how we wanted but didn’t have to do any of the hard, dirty work. We honestly would have given up half way through if we’d done it as a tricky space. It’s so beautiful and modern with a didgital tap in the new bath/shower and underfloor heating. I enjoy it every day.

FoodologistGirl · 06/07/2021 21:55

Also cat insurance. Our old boy had nose cancer a few years ago that cost £1,500 for surgery and recently been diagnosed with liver cancer with tests costing over £2,000. We’ve used up this years allowance and know he’s only got a matter of time, but he’s happy and we are prepared for the end.

mamaduckbone · 06/07/2021 22:13

A really good mattress and a stove top milk frother!

BirdsandBeesmakinghay · 06/07/2021 22:15

This is so sobering for me. I don’t have insurance for my cat.
