Just marvelling at my soda stream. We used to buy SO much sparkling water the amount of plastic was dreadful. I'm so glad I bought it! has really made life better.

Also my quartz worktops.... was a splurge but bloody hell my kitchen is a beautiful place to be now. I can't stop looking at them!

My house. I've WFH for eight years and it is so good to live in such a great place. My home office has a door to the garden, so there is fresh air, natural light, roses and birdsong.

garlictwist · 06/07/2021 05:07

Sounds stupid but ear defenders! I love them. Wear them when reading in the garden so I can't hear the road/neighbours or when other half is watching tv and I want some peace. Sometimes even sleep in them as we live in a big student area so there's always a lot of parties and drunk people and night. Game changing.

SpeakingFranglais · 06/07/2021 06:17

@Cherrysoup

Getting rid of 7 x 50ft conifers has freed my garden up, given us a ton more room. I can’t understand why the row of neighbours behind never complained!

@SpeakingFranglais please could you explain?

I bought lots of shares when the market crashed and prices were low.

They have since increased in value hugely.

Sophoclesthefox · 06/07/2021 06:17

This is a lovely thread! as long as you ignore the inevitable couple of chip-pissers who can’t help themselves 😂 ya miserable sods.

Mine are:

DeLonghi bean to cup coffee maker- every cup brings me a tiny moment of joy.

Sleep headphones- they override tinnitus, street noise, husband snores and cradle me in a little oasis of calm.

Celtic and Co sheepskin slippers, my feet are at their ideal temperature all the time, and well supported, it’s a revelation.

Oxfam do wool blankets, made from recycled materials. So scratchy, I lined mine with a soft baby type blanket from Boyes. Its lovely and warm and comfortable now.
( BOYES ) Is a northern store that is a little treasure.

HuntingoftheSnark · 06/07/2021 06:32

Another kitten one - £40, over 16 years ago. A huge joy every day.

Our IKEA mattress. Only cost £150 and it gives a better night sleep than our previous £800 one.

Ddot · 06/07/2021 06:48

I'd say my cat but she was free, feral kitten. Steamer for clothes and floors its fab and freshness up my winter coat. WD40 oh my it's a god send, I got shoe polish on my cream carpet, tried everything to shift without success, WD40 rub in then shampoo 😘

@Mamanyt

Best money EVER? The tray with cup holder that fits over my walker. The day I got home after having my stroke, I managed to make coffee and fix myself a bowl of cereal! I was so excited until I realized I had no way to get it to my chair to eat it! Had to call my neighbor to bring my prepared food to me. It was such a blow, to be at a dead stop over something like that. Now, I'm pretty self-sufficient again!
I know exactly how you feel. I was struggling so much the the walking frame and having to get family to carry things for me.

I've graduated to a three wheel Walker now with a bag attached. I can put a travel mug and a Tupperware of lunch in it and get it back to my desk.

(It also fits a full bottle of wine and a glass in there) Wink

longcoffeebreak · 06/07/2021 08:05

My pedigree poodle

Merryweather80 · 06/07/2021 08:27

My all-terrain wheelchair. It's meant more comfort for me, and as a family we can go out more on my good days.
My next purchase will be a device that makes it motorised so that I can go in long rough country walks or sits in my case. It looks like a small front half of a motorbike.
So far I've saved only £100 of the £700 price tag. Sadly, the here are no second hand ones.

sandgrown · 06/07/2021 08:33

@watermeeon we bought those eggs years ago and every child, grandchild and visiting child has enjoyed playing with them for years . They were on their way to the charity shop but sadly the holder got broken in a house move . They were the best toy ever and “cheep”

FoodologistGirl · 06/07/2021 09:00

My potting shed, or she shed. Not lady cave which was what my daughter accidentally called it. Grin ive been able to grow exotic fruits and flowers that don’t die off over winter. This rubbish summer has meant my tomatoes are flourishing instead of the tiny shoots on the ones outside. As it’s just mine I’ve painted it inside and out Nf added pretty storage and lights, but it’s still practical for tools. It’s made a useful addition to a much underused part of the garden with the best light. So easy to pop in it for fresh herbs in cooking. And a great space for drying extra.

HaveringWavering · 06/07/2021 09:19

Controversial one this but our artificial lawn. We got good quality so it looks pretty good, no more mud, bare patches, mowing, scorched dead grass in the summer, animals digging holes. Just lovely grass for my son to play on.

HaveringWavering · 06/07/2021 09:20

Lovely “grass” I should say. I love the cool feel of natural grass as much as the next person but I was incapable of growing and maintaining it.

Ddot · 06/07/2021 09:47

Silk pillowcase, I've wanted one sooo long finally splurged, ti saves my curls

longtimemarried · 06/07/2021 09:51

The best money I ever spent was on my wedding day.

idontlikealdi · 06/07/2021 09:57

I bloody love my soda stream. Saves 10 bottles of plastic a week.

41sunnydays · 06/07/2021 10:04

Stupidly expensive gym membership for the family has been brilliant. I love it and feel so lucky to have access to it. I love the kids being able to use the indoor and outdoor pools. Love the classes and my favourite bit is the spa area which is honestly better than many at hotel spa breaks. But the best bit is the cliche is that it gives us family time together, especially with different aged children.

Other money well spent is national trust membership. Absolutely love it and again it's the encouragement to go out as a family and spend time together. The kids really don't care about local parks but they enjoy national trust places and the tea and cake after a walk Smile

TurnStone · 06/07/2021 10:10

@catfunk please could you describe how to fizz up wine with a sodastream, I tried it once and got wine sprayed everywhere, frightened myself, TIA Flowers

IntermittentParps · 06/07/2021 10:29

Not a one-off purchase, but the best money I spend is on a cleaner to come round weekly.

QueenOfCakeandCoffee · 06/07/2021 10:41

@MonsteraMother please can you tell me the company you got the cabin from?

Wexone · 06/07/2021 11:06

I have a few some that have been mentioned alot
My home - it has been a blessing during lockdown to have the space and a beautiful garden to enjoy. i enjoy spending time in my home
500e on vet fees for the dog we found on the side of the road, she is such a little dote, love her to bits
200e to a rescue charity for the a JR, about 4 weeks ago. He a grumpy little fecker and has his moments but every day he is improving which is great to see
2500e on my braces - never looked after my teeth before but now have straight teeth
1500e a year on health insurance, means that any treatment required for my horrendous endometrioses is covered
200e every couple of months on my hair, have very long thick hair but about 10 years ago found a hairdresser who can cut it so its manageable and keep it in good condition so much easier to manage each day
60e every two weeks on my cleaner, she does an amazing job, far better than i would ever, but helps me keep on top of the house and able to enjoy the weekends
currently saving up for micro needling to help with my acne scars, scheduled for October of this year.
after that it will be for laser hair removal
would love to have laser eye surgery, but i think now at my age and my terrible eyesight don't think it will be beneficial

Sailormooncloudylemonade · 06/07/2021 13:10

So many!

Most important: IVF!!! My amazing daughter is more than worth the 10k + and al the struggles of fertility treatments. I love her to bits and wouldn’t change a thing.

-Robot vacuum (a must have with children and pets!)
-Drying machine (used to have clothes drying all over my kitchen before)

  • Dishwasher

These 3 at least help keeping my flat clean and tidy, which is very important to me

  • air pods (used to forget i was using earphones and smash my phone on The floor often)
bloodynamechangethe3rd · 06/07/2021 14:09

@Scaredycat87

Don’t have sparkling water Worse for your teeth than sweets As my dentist said

Me? My robo vac. No hesitation

I'd be worried about your dentist! I need an explanation as to how sparkling water with no additives is bad for your teeth, it's batsh*t to state that and that it came from a dentist!!

Sparkling water IS NOT bad for your teeth. Actually the carbonation renders the minerals unable to deposit on your tooth's surface.
