Yesterday I got talking to the lovliest man (at a clinic we were attending, not in a pub sadly) and I remembered how nice I’ve always found American men.

So I’ve decided I’d quite like one please, and I need you folks to help me find one. Any and all suggestions carefully considered :)

Can I come on the road trip - but only if you promise I can have Dave GrohlGrin

Don't know what DH will say to this plan. Ah never mind, he'll be ok with Sky Sports and the chippy......

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 01/07/2021 18:40

Actually, any uncles would either be German or Korean.

Bouledeneige · 01/07/2021 18:41

By the way Ryan Gosling is Canadian. And that's a whole other kettle of fish. All outdoorsy and snowshoeing.

I would personally avoid too southern states. And anyone with a rebel flag and gun racks in their pick up truck. And anyone living on the bayou.

Americam · 01/07/2021 18:46

@BluebellsareBlue

Please don't take Tom Cruise (in his Top Gun whites) or Ryan Gosling or Ryan Reynolds (although the latter two are Canadian), I wouldn't cope, I still at nearly 46 have palpitations at Tom in his navy whites and firmly believe that he will come for me now he's single. (I'm willing to put the Scientology aside.)
I won’t take Tom, I promise. I knew someone who worked with him once - he said he was very nice.

You can come on the road trip NeedWineNow, and you can have Dave Grohl. Just don’t say anything to your dh, you’ll be back before he’s realised you’ve gone.

Do the uncles live in America @TheLovelinessOfDemons? Because that could work.

If anyone knows John McEnroe and wants to set him up with me that could also work, although I suspect his dw would not agree.

Definitely no rebel flags or gun racks @Bouledeneige! I have very low standards but I do have some!

East Anglia, definitely. My cousin hitched an American from a base. She lives in the state's now. I think he was pro Trump though.

But there are normal ones too. One of my colleagues is American and married to a serviceman, they are really lovely normal people.

I used to get loads of Americans come into work when we (me and DH) had our business, the accents were lovely and I used to enjoy chatting with them.

Bouledeneige · 01/07/2021 18:51

My flat mate who was a southern belle went shooting deer and squirrels at the weekends. She had to boil the squirrel for hours to get the shot out and there's very little meat on them - just a bit on the hind legs. Plus grits - a staple of southern cuisine - are gross.

Frownette · 01/07/2021 18:53

Thinking about it I'm going a module with an American university at present. I don't have to go over but I could join their chat forum and politely ask what they know about England and if they were visiting.

EKGEMS · 01/07/2021 18:59

@SenecaFallsRedux I know where Seneca Falls is! Yes come to the southeastern US and there's lots of genuinely nice, kind and attractive prospects here! I married a man from the Midwest but we met in a college in the southeastern US

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 01/07/2021 18:59

Do the uncles live in America @TheLovelinessOfDemons?

I still don't know if he has any, although I was wrong, his dad was German American. I'm still researching. You see how seriously I'm taking this? Grin

MouseholeCat · 01/07/2021 19:01

Become born again and start going on church exchanges. You'll be married in no time.

In all seriousness, I found mine while doing my masters degree. He's very liberal, but I did have to convince him the death penalty is barbaric.

Yes I do see, and I’m most grateful! You can be chief bridesmaid when the time comes!

Would I have to continue going to church once I’d remarried?

Oh I almost forgot that I got chatted up on the tube by a Mormon “from Salt Lake City ma’am.” I was with my four month old baby - so a bit weird in hindsight 🤣

ChimneyPot · 01/07/2021 19:10

Find out where your local Democrats Abroad have their monthly meetings, usually a bar or hotel, and hangout there.

Noooo - not Tom Cruise! Chris Evans is mine - if anyone every happens to cross his path. I’d be more than happy living with him and his dog in the Boston suburbs. Just have to break it to DH and the kids 😂
SenecaFallsRedux · 01/07/2021 19:16

*Lefty men are sissies."

You have obviously never been to the Pacific Northwest. 😀

IsolaPribby · 01/07/2021 19:23

I could have had several American men whilst playing Scrabble on the new app, or on the Larry for Prime Minister Facebook page. There are plenty on both looking to pick someone up!

GleamingHeels · 01/07/2021 19:38

In a former life I worked for a company based in Boston, some lovely, educated, emotionally intelligent men, sans guns, sans right-wing views and didn't do all this ma'am stuff, just expected you to be an equal...

oh and if you think people from the US love an English accent, try developing a gentle Scottish one, it was like a magnet! I am available for Zoom voice-coaching sessions if it will help you on your mission

Americam · 01/07/2021 19:39

What is it about word games that attracts American men?!

I’d better have a look at them although I think I did have Words with Friends (or something like that) a while back and I deleted it for a reason I can’t remember now! Don’t think it was because I was being inundated with offers from American men though!

Join Facebook groups for Americans in your area and find out where they usually hang out.

Like Frasier?!

I’d love to have an interesting accent. I do actually hail from Wales although haven’t lived there in decades. I could probably reignite my accent

Feltwell, Mildenhall, Ely, Lakenheath, Bury St Edmunds. Live near an air base you’ll be tripping over them 😃

osbertthesyrianhamster · 01/07/2021 20:15

There are lots of them here. The suggestion to go to an American bar o 4th of July is a good one. If you're young, Rob Lowe has two very funny sons in their mid-20s.
