Yesterday I got talking to the lovliest man (at a clinic we were attending, not in a pub sadly) and I remembered how nice I’ve always found American men.

So I’ve decided I’d quite like one please, and I need you folks to help me find one. Any and all suggestions carefully considered :)
@SecretWitch don’t you want yours any more?
He’s retired now and loves to make suggestions about the best way to run our house. Also, wee’s with door open and randomly whistles “ Clementine”.

I would be open to trade for Adam Driver.

I love this thread Grin I've never dated an American but have a few American customers, they're always so polite!

We get Canadians here on R&R, they are more lively but also very polite Smile

You can have my allocation op, if you would like.

Get yourself to America aw soon as you can, especially the Southern states and men will fall at your feet as they love us Brits!

I went on holiday there with a friend and the men that we attracted was crazy! Once they hear your accent they’re all over you, especially if you throw in a few good English words like bloody hell, knickers and water!! I came home from that holiday with a boyfriend and then spent a lot of time in his state down south, loved every minute of it and genuinely thought I’d move there but sadly it wasn’t to be.

Good luck on your man hunt!

travellinglighter · 01/07/2021 17:15

@Americam

Is it actually possible to hang around the air base? Don’t you get shot or something? Can you give me names of specific bars/cafes/pubs?
Probably don’t want to go out with a US serviceman. In my experience they tend to be a bit too wrapped in the flag, pro guns and trump. I’m male and straight and I’ve never tried to pick one up but I do remember an American Military Police woman who looked like a super model. Unfortunately she was on duty and I’m not super model boyfriend material.
TeddingtonTrashbag · 01/07/2021 17:17

You'd have thought I'd offered to pay his way through college. He was very appreciative.I reckon he would have ran off with me apart from the fact that DH was sitting in the car with a face like this hmm

Try the SuperValu in Dalkey if you’re looking for Matt Damon. The biggest conspiracy theory of 2020 was guessing the contents of Matt’s plastic bag.

Frownette · 01/07/2021 17:33

No no no, no Matt Damon. He is taken.

At least he was last time I looked

Americam · 01/07/2021 17:38

Seems a shame to rule out US servicemen in case they’re pro trump - I feel it’d be fairer to interview them and see how we go … :) I don’t want to get shot though.

Shall we start some sort of travel club for after Covid and do a U.K. and world tour of all the best spots?

I’m so glad I started this thread, you all are a wealth of information!

I love this so much! Also true of Canadian men. They also like learning words like “bollocks” and all the ways it can be used.

I think a tour is good, then you can meet a good range of American men to narrow down your type. Grin

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 01/07/2021 17:46

No, you need Markiplier. What age range are we talking?

Americam · 01/07/2021 17:47

He, unfortunately, Demons, is young enough to be my son. Maybe he has a single father or uncle.

Does anyone want to join me in my quest? It’ll probably look less odd hanging around in groups, plus I’m almost certain to be older than most of you and you’ll all look stunning next to the old lady (not that you wouldn’t look stunning without an old lady)
I bet I'm older than you.
Holothane · 01/07/2021 17:50

Haha can I have Eric Roberts and Mathew Modine please.

Bouledeneige · 01/07/2021 17:51

I think the 4th July recommendation for American bars is a really good tip. And East Anglia. You could try cafes and bars near the American embassy in London but it is in Nine Elms which is quite an odd place to go. They can also be found in some posher parts of Mayfair where the old embassy used to be or the City.

Some rich ones also come over for shooting in posh estates during the season (in normal non Covid times). If you're happy to spend £20k for a week in tweed killing our feathered friends that might be a way to go. Or you could pretend to be alumni from Georgetown university I know the top ones have associations in London for meet ups.

I met a load in my early 20s by going to a US university for my Masters degree. I traded mercilessly on my English accent and they had to form a queue. Even the guy who took my pizza order over the phone turned up to deliver it. I said I was surprised that I didn't think the order guy did the deliveries. He said 'I don't usually'. To be fair that was pretty creepy.

NoSleepTil · 01/07/2021 17:57

Mine was stationed at one of the Suffolk bases when I picked him up.
Find a Midwestern chap if you can, they are the best!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/07/2021 18:03

@Americam

Ilovemydog I think I’d find the New York culture vultures hard to live up to, and the Californian dudes a bit irritating. A nice southern one (but with modern attitudes re guns and race and religion) would be fine, as would your namesake! I’m not fussy and I’m happy to put in some effort looking.
Came on here to say, definitely get a Southern one because then he can call you Ma'am . But it looks like someone has already mentioned the 'Ma'am' factor Grin

If we all club together, do you think we could hire one and share him? Just so he can call us all Ma'am. I'd be happy to put him up at my house. I'll cook him a nice roast dinner; he'd like that.

Americam · 01/07/2021 18:08

No @JesusInTheCabbageVan! I’m not sharing, I want all of my own! You can still cook him a roast dinner though if you want!

50 years ago I met and married an American man I met on holiday in America. My current husband is also American - I also met in America because I stayed here.

If you don't want to travel too far, go to the American air force bases at RAF Mildenhall or RAF Lakenheath (Suffolk) and try to get into the Officers club or Airman's club.

I'd advise you to seek out conservative men because they are good providers and protectors. They will open doors for you, call you ma'am and bring home the bacon. Lefty men are sissies.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 01/07/2021 18:12

I have one!! Met him at uni when we were both doing post-grad degrees. He's a neurotic NYC banker though - they're very high maintenance and something of an acquired taste. I like him anyway.

I suggest hanging around Oxbridge and eyeing up the graduate students, bonus points if you manage to sneak in to Rhodes House. Or take yourself to the once a year American football game that happens in London. Americans everywhere.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 01/07/2021 18:13

His dad's dead, I'll research uncles.

@Americam

Which bit of the South did you go to *@MeowPurrGrr*? I need specifics!
Tennessee, Louisiana, Kentucky, Texas and also travelled to New York, LA and Vegas but treated less like a ‘celebrity’ there Grin

I’ll never forget going into a gas station and the poor young man serving nearly passed out when he heard me talk. He then stuttered asking if I was English and asked me to say the B word (normally bloody hell or bollocks!). Or the time the taxis driver wouldn’t let me pay as it had made his day having an English customer!

Ahh the memories, I think I want another American boyfriend! When are we going on this trip?!

randomkey123 · 01/07/2021 18:25

@ilovesooty

Play Words with Friends. You'll get loads of American men trying to hook up with you.
This with spades on. Drives me up the wall.
BluebellsareBlue · 01/07/2021 18:35

Please don't take Tom Cruise (in his Top Gun whites) or Ryan Gosling or Ryan Reynolds (although the latter two are Canadian), I wouldn't cope, I still at nearly 46 have palpitations at Tom in his navy whites and firmly believe that he will come for me now he's single. (I'm willing to put the Scientology aside.)
