Yesterday I got talking to the lovliest man (at a clinic we were attending, not in a pub sadly) and I remembered how nice I’ve always found American men.

So I’ve decided I’d quite like one please, and I need you folks to help me find one. Any and all suggestions carefully considered :)

@ApolloandDaphne

I live in Scottish town renowned for its golf and the place is usually teeming with American men. There are fewer around at the moment with Covid and all that but it's worth bearing in mind if your other avenues fail to secure you a worthy man. The ones here are generally middle aged with paunches and bad taste in knitwear. How fussy are you?
Oh I’m up that way in a couple of weeks for work, wonder if my teeth will arrive by then?

They’ve got to be fairly wealthy right? I quite like a knitted tank top.

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/07/2021 15:57

Not all are wealthy, but certainly most would be in comfortable financial circumstances. But you also have to consider for an avid golfer (of which there are many in the US), a visit to the holy grail of golf is a big bucket list item that they might have saved for years to do.

There needs to be some sort of timeshare arrangement for Keanu, I think.
My brother has an American wife - he works for the fire dept in California. If you don't get yourself sorted I can ask him to lob a fireman in your direction

Frownette · 01/07/2021 16:11

Keanu is taken! And Matt Damon.

I haven't seen an American in yonks, if I bump into one I'll ask he's single and get his phone number if so.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 01/07/2021 16:11

American firefighter!
If anyone knows the podcast ‘Truth and Justice’ ex-Fire Chief Bob Ruff is the kinda one to go for…!

Cocolapew · 01/07/2021 16:20

I also met an American in a car park. I had a couple of hours left on my pay and display ticket and offered it to him.
You'd have thought I'd offered to pay his way through college. He was very appreciative.
I reckon he would have ran off with me apart from the fact that DH was sitting in the car with a face like this Hmm

Cocolapew · 01/07/2021 16:20

Oh that ^ was in Belfast

Cocolapew · 01/07/2021 16:21

Ohhh an American firefighter ::swoons::

Americam · 01/07/2021 16:25

An American firefighter 😯 @MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously I demand you get on the phone to your brother immediately and give him my phone number. It is a matter of great importance.

I’d be happy to put mine on offer. He is NY born and raised. Former police/paramedic. I can let him go for a low low price. Offers welcome.

H0Tcarrots · 01/07/2021 16:30

I’m American…..I have a single, solvent brother with no attachments….

July2mebabywouldJuly2me · 01/07/2021 16:33

Alaska!
The male to female ratio is huge (I'm thinking 1:8 but I could be making that figure up). They're very fond of hunting, shooting and trapping in Alaska. Are you outdoorsy, OP?

July2mebabywouldJuly2me · 01/07/2021 16:33

Or 8:1 Confused

July2mebabywouldJuly2me · 01/07/2021 16:38

OK, just checked. It's 108 men per 100 women. No idea what ratio that is Grin

SquirmOfEels · 01/07/2021 16:38

Good luck to you OP!! Suggest hanging around the US Embassy, there must be a pub close by

There isn't much, though there are some bars and restaurants in the new riverside development just opposite.

But I suspect they'd be terribly security conscious and will probably think you're after their official secrets if you try to pick up there.

I was once in a port city when there was a US military ship in town, and one tried to pick me up in a bookshop. I didn't actually realise that's what he was attempting (I just thought he might be a bit lonely) but my friend was collapsing in giggles at the cross-purposes. I found out afterwards that's where they go when the ship's in town if they want to pick up someone with some conversation

motogogo · 01/07/2021 16:40

Beware of American military types in the U.K. !!! I met one and he seemed to be (a) trying to impress his "boys" by getting a girlfriend who wasn't from near the base and (b) after residency. He loved the U.K. and after managing to stay on multiple tours his whole job was permanently relocating to Arizona, he was due to get his long service optional retirement. But on the other hand they aren't fussy! (I'm no looker)

I think the Aussies might have cornered the market for firefighters. There's even a calendar of hot guys with cute animals.

With apologies for the diversion to a different former colony

@ilovemydogandmrobama2

Pacific Northwest types - bit rugged, liberal but probably very rich because they work for Microsoft or Amazon (or a host of biotechs) lovely place to live so helps. I was wondering about trying to bag one when I was single, but happy with my Brit

Barmbraic · 01/07/2021 16:47

I had a go of a US marine once. Google tells me I got him at his peak

Hang out arround the US embassy in London. 9 Elms, I'm sure they must head out for lunch and go to coffee shops and bars/restaurants nearby.

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 01/07/2021 17:00

I joined a dating agency before the days of OLD especially to meet American men. I landed a wealthy surgeon
His Christmas present to me was to phone and say he'd paid for a five star luxury New Year holiday in the Caribbean. The best holiday ever! He bought me a beautiful diamond friendship ring and the relationship lasted about a year. I met my DH then who was born in the same area as me. Not American, but perfect for me.
