Yesterday I got talking to the lovliest man (at a clinic we were attending, not in a pub sadly) and I remembered how nice I’ve always found American men.

So I’ve decided I’d quite like one please, and I need you folks to help me find one. Any and all suggestions carefully considered :)

I never once thought Bury St Edmunds would be a hotspot of American men! Can anyone who lives there please confirm? I could be there by 6.

I was queuing for the ticket machine and they doffed their caps, called me ma’am and let me go first, not going lie, if you asked me what was discussed in the meeting i went to afterwards I’d have no idea! It was a little distracting (might look at house prices on Rightmove ... )

Go to Alabama, up a mountain somewhere.
REAL men ... gun toting god loving men

OR ya know, do what those endless tossers do to me on Instagram, message any American man you can track down online and tell them they are beautiful and they love you already

MillionBells · 01/07/2021 14:22

I remember when my cousin married an American man and my uncle, now in his 90s said "You stole our women in the War and you're still doing it now!" Grin

Back in the days of actual dating agencies (pre Tinder) there used to be one for American men who wanted to hook up with English Roses. Would you consider yourself an English rose, OP?

LeonardLikesThisPost · 01/07/2021 14:24

@Aposterhasnoname

Well you just go to America, turn up at any random bar where all the (extremely hot) men will be entranced by your accent and you’ll spend a lovely evening comparing pronunciation, before going back to theirs for a night of passion. Well it worked when Kris Marshall was looking for a woman, I’m sure it works the same the other way round.
Worked for me - admittedly this was when I was young and beautiful - but the accent was like some sort of magic spell. Was ace! I didn't marry one though.

Remind me of the acceptable minimum/maximum ages again.

Papillon33 · 01/07/2021 14:28

I'm from near Bury St Edmunds, I can confirm you'll probably find some American men there Grin Maybe Ely in Cambridgeshire too

Americam · 01/07/2021 14:29

I’m not too good with heights @QOD. Bury seems like an easier route to go down than a mountain in Alabama. Although I do not want any of you to question my commitment to my search for an American man. If Bury and East Anglia don’t come up trumps then I’ll be on a plane ASAP!

Bill Cosby has just been released from prison... ? Hmm

Americam · 01/07/2021 14:30

@July2mebabywouldJuly2me no, sadly not an English rose type. Dark hair, dark eyes, past my prime!

I have one. You can’t have him though. Sorry op.

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/07/2021 14:34

But what do I actually do when I get there? I’m not very good at getting men. I did have one for a long time but he died on me

Sorry for your loss, OP.

In the South, grocery stores are better than bars for meeting the right kind of man. (I should point out, however, that it has been a really long time since I was looking.)

How did you get him?

Boris Johnson was born in the US, so he is technically American, and he's always looking for a new mate.

Oh wait, he renounced his citizenship. Still...

EveningOverRooftops · 01/07/2021 14:36

Met via gaming. He called me ma’am and was quite interesting then we shot lots of zombies. I’m actually talking to him now. He’s from Illinois. His brother is married. Sorry.

Americam · 01/07/2021 14:37

Thank you @SenecaFallsRedux that’s very kind. Miss him loads but it was 5 years ago now. And he’s probably rolling his eyes at me from somewhere thinking “here she goes, another one of her “harebrained” schemes!”

Do they realise the impact of ‘Ma’am’? 😀

MegaCityOne · 01/07/2021 14:39

Amazon?

I have a Canadian / American dual citizen. Met through work but he was the only one and isn’t available.

Today is Canada Day, so you might find a Canadian one if you go on Twitter, tweet about it and see if that brings in anything 🎣

Americam · 01/07/2021 14:39

Oh if only Boris hadn’t renounced his citizenship …. 😁

Gaming has featured a couple of times in this thread. I don’t think I could shoot zombies but I could have a go at that word game.

I keep getting friend request on FB from widowed US military types. I've got no need for one so I will send them your way OP.

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/07/2021 14:41

Speaking of Bury St. Edmunds and its environs, I think lots of Americans visit the Airmen's Bar in the Swan Hotel in Lavenham, especially if their dad or granddad was in the US Air Force stationed nearby during WW II.
