What odd names did you consider when pregnant and hormonal?

My eldest is in his 20s, yet I can clearly remember thinking Roy and Hugh were really strong contenders when expecting him (thankfully not for long, he wasn’t born in the 1940s or 50s when those names might have been mainstream).

So what names did you consider that now you think WTF?

Anemone

DD1... Boudicca
DD2... Edelweiss

My now 8yo DD2 thinks Boudicca is a really cool name and thinks I should have used it for her.

Ariadne. I am not sophisticated enough in manner or accent for shouting that in the playground and it sounds dreadful with my surname.

Gracie-Mae

Kennedy Or Nova for a girl. I LOVED Kennedy and wanted her to be nicknamed Kenny… luckily I had a boy

Hen2018 · 28/06/2021 20:39

Ariel (as is Sharron, no as in aerial)
Chad
Owen (have really gone off this, for no reason)

StudentPurse · 28/06/2021 20:39

A boy not named Kenny BTW

Hyacinth88 · 28/06/2021 20:41

Sullivan

Jasmine11 · 28/06/2021 20:42

Boys:Zephyr, Sylvan and Oberon.
Girls: Eartha and Persephone.

We didn't use any of those names and I'm glad about that!

SwedishEdith · 28/06/2021 20:43

Cherry as a middle name. Was talking about it recently with child who avoided it and I'm now thinking it would have really suited her and is quite cute.

TerrifiedandWorried · 28/06/2021 20:45

My MIL's name. I suggested it as an option to several people. They kept looking at me weirdly. I had somehow totally disassociated it from her. I don't even like the name Hmm

RickOShay · 28/06/2021 20:45

Coco. For dd now 19. Still like it tbh Grin

Nitw1t · 28/06/2021 20:47

Jeffery.... I just thought Jeffery was so incongruous for a baby it would actually be cute...

... but then he did end up being called Hugh Grin

yellowdayblueday · 28/06/2021 20:47

I'm still thinking Fox..

My surname is Grills 👀

haveibeencaughtout · 28/06/2021 20:48

Gaylord and Mungo for boys.
My sister bollocked me.

LoveAndBeSilent · 28/06/2021 20:51

Echo Bliss for DD1! Until a friend said it sounded like a cheap wine Grin

RickOShay · 28/06/2021 20:52

@Nitw1t
I flirted with Roger for a bit Grin

MrsBerthaRochester · 28/06/2021 20:53

My absolute favourite name for a girl is Agatha(yes huge Christie fan) but vetoed by stxdh. I still love it and while I think the name we chose for DD suits her I still wish for an Agatha.

weekend2021 · 28/06/2021 20:54

There are 2 current threads running on here asking for opinions on the names Cape and Swan……hopefully the OP’s will have second thoughts and in years to come will think WTF 😝

Tidypidy · 28/06/2021 21:12

Balonz- just kidding!

Whoops! For what it’s worth I do like Hugh, I just couldn’t see a baby one.

Cyril-pregnancy does weird things to me and I fell in love with it

Thankfully my sons nursery teacher told me straight up that I wasn’t naming him Cyril and she was a bit scary so I changed my mind

I wanted hope for a girl along with rainbow or honey (which sounds awful with my Yorkshire accent)

Amber was another but another son thankfully came out a boy-we really thought we where having a girl

Still love the names charm or bronte but I’m not having anymore babies

My daughter wants Luna but I pray she changes her mind-it’s a bit overused

ASpoonfulofDust · 28/06/2021 21:56

Ocean or Ramona
