What odd names did you consider when pregnant and hormonal?

My eldest is in his 20s, yet I can clearly remember thinking Roy and Hugh were really strong contenders when expecting him (thankfully not for long, he wasn’t born in the 1940s or 50s when those names might have been mainstream).

So what names did you consider that now you think WTF?

Shem. It’s a Hebrew boys’ name. No one but us ever said they liked it Grin

Adelbert...thank goodness I had a girl!

This literally means “name” in Hebrew.

@EssentialHummus isn’t Shem one of Moses’s sons? Ham, Shem and Japheth?

Or has the cartoon I still remember the song from 30 years ago lied to me?!

PattyPan · 29/06/2021 23:34

@99redspottedducks and did you call her Niamh?

@marthasmum I know a Shem!

Atlas

DH maintains it would have worked well :/

Ilovetea33 · 30/06/2021 00:15

I believe Shem, Ham and Japheth are Noah's sons.

Lucifer (my entire family are Catholic!!)

SecondCityShark · 30/06/2021 00:24

@PattyPan me too! Does your Shem live near a town beginning with M? 🤔

There are so great names on this thread.

For my youngest dd I really wanted to call her Salve. Every time we talked about baby names DH just kept saying mmm nice but should we have a backup name as well though.

She ended up not being called Salve or the backup name once I came to my senses.

Kanaloa · 30/06/2021 02:01

Although my - not pregnant or hormonal - DH genuinely suggested Roland for a boys name. Don’t know what his excuse was.

NiceGerbil · 30/06/2021 02:05

My DH wasn't pregnant and hormonal so why he was so keen to name the baby with the name of Norse gods is beyond me.

We have no connection to Scandinavia.

As pregnant and hormonal as I was, I was definitely the one with some sense!

Kyle. For a girl. To be honest I still quite like it! DP was a complete no, and we went with a nice normal girls name.
