What odd names did you consider when pregnant and hormonal?

My eldest is in his 20s, yet I can clearly remember thinking Roy and Hugh were really strong contenders when expecting him (thankfully not for long, he wasn’t born in the 1940s or 50s when those names might have been mainstream).

So what names did you consider that now you think WTF?

kids wanted Yoda Shark (boy) or Yoda Yogurt (girl) for DC5.

I told that to so many people I started to like the idea😳🤣

MaMelon · 28/06/2021 21:59

Delphine or Aurelia. DD said she would have never forgotten me if I’d inflicted either on her, but bastard DH vetoed them.

Rupert. Gorgeous name but I have a bit of a lisp. Woopurt anyone? HmmGrin

Girls:
Ariel (yes like the little mermaid)
Persephone (Percy as a nickname- I still like this but wouldn’t be brave enough)
Tiger-lily (adore this but again not brave enough)
Meredith
Cove

Boys:
Oberon
Othello
Jett
Desmond
Lucius

Itsmemaggie · 28/06/2021 22:02

Horace or Maurice (can you see a theme) I’m still adamant that if I ever get a male cat I’ll call him Horace.

zombielady · 28/06/2021 22:02

Sid

Our boy’s name for DD was Donnchadh- we loved it, I just thought it was so strong and masculine.

I still love it but it’s a big name to carry!

funnyoldonion · 28/06/2021 22:07

Dusty for a girl!

That looks like it would be pronounced Doncha? But is it different?

Jarvis

StellaOlivetti · 28/06/2021 22:10

Ethel or Greer for a girl (I still rather like Ethel) and Barnaby or Lysander for a boy. We are not posh enough to pull off those boy names, I fear.

Batinthehouse · 28/06/2021 22:12

Balthazar and Lucian.

cherrybonbons · 28/06/2021 22:14

Edison (I still love it)
Whilemena

Gary (no other Gary's around under 30 😆)

DinosApple · 28/06/2021 22:17

Almost all my name's were vetoed by DH... Jocasta, Zella, Aster, Dexter, Indiana and John Grin. In fact we should have had six children and used all those names, I still like them!

TheChosenTwo · 28/06/2021 22:17

Oscar.
It’s not odd or out there at all, I know a little Oscar now! Dh was vehemently against this name and I was really put out. But Looking back I have absolutely no idea why I was so insistent on having Oscar, I don’t have any feelings on the name now, I’m certainly not drawn to it!

vampirethriller · 28/06/2021 22:20

Ripley for a girl, I watched the entire Alien series back to back and hormones had me convinced it would be perfect.

butterfly990 · 28/06/2021 22:20

I remember vividly in full tilt labor being driven through Ballymun in Dublin thinking I'm not calling my baby Ballymun!!! Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 28/06/2021 22:22

Thaddeus and Balthazar

Cattenberg · 28/06/2021 22:24

Aerona. I saw it in a baby name book, and thought, “that’s the one!” Luckily, this feeling soon wore off.

I still love Oberon, but my mum pointed out that my child might not appreciate being named after the King of the Fairies.

motogogo · 28/06/2021 22:26

@MrsBerthaRochester

We wanted Agatha too, mum hated it do we didn't choose it

icecreamgirl94 · 28/06/2021 22:26

Moon, even when DS arrived recently and was a boy. There’d been some gorgeous full moons during my pregnancy and as we were in lockdown I think they interested me more than they would have in normal times 😂 DP managed to convince me it was a bit odd but I still used it as a middle name 😁

EllieQ · 28/06/2021 22:26

Antonia and Wilhemina (nickname Mina). DH vetoed them both :(

Ptolemy for a boy (nn Tol). What was I thinking?
