Does Silkiecat not normally like sunshine?

How did independence go for those who celebrate?

@mathanxiety burger review? I remembered after I posted that I have some nice beetroot burgers in and fresh rolls

Silkiecats · 05/07/2021 11:19

Silkiecat loves sunshine though it can be annoying when it moves and you have to move sunbathing position, its gardens that are scary to Silkiecat. She used to cling to my legs shaking as a kitten so had to take her back in. Only time she was interested was when a fox used to visit and she used to ask to go out with him, think she was after a boyfriend and he was after dinner.

Frownette · 05/07/2021 11:25

Oh that's so sweet she clung to your leg!!

How did the fox react? It was probably used to cats snarling at it!

Silkiecats · 05/07/2021 11:31

The cat sat by our glass French doors to garden making eyes at the fox and the fox sat in the garden about 2 metres away making eyes at Silkiecat. Silkiecat thought it was the start of a beautiful romance.

We also used to have a squirrel come right up to the doors and Silkecat and it would gaze at each other only a few inches apart. Squiggle wasn't boyfriend material though for Silkiecat. Mr Foxy was so beautiful 😍

Frownette · 05/07/2021 13:23

Aha, so Silkiecat likes brawn and handsome looks.

I guess wabbit has been rejected as well. She does like your DH though!

Silkiecats · 05/07/2021 13:33

Yes wabbit is interested in cat but cat has developed an evil glare. Wabbit thinks she really loves him and is just playing hard to get. Think she loves DH as he is a most excellent servant.

Sunbird24 · 05/07/2021 13:47

My walnut used to love cats so much that she’d break out of her run, hop down the road and find a car to hide under do that she could jump out on passing cats in order to play with them. Fortunately the neighbours always managed to catch her before any cats got over the shock and put her in with their chickens, who she thought were very stupid creatures indeed.

Sunbird24 · 05/07/2021 13:47

Wabbit not walnut! 😂😂

Frownette · 05/07/2021 13:53

Sunbird24 Grin

Silkiecats · 05/07/2021 13:57

Grin Sunbird just had an image of a running walnut jumping on cats. Wabbit also tries to jump on the cat and had to separate them as it wasn't going to end well. Smile

Squirrel26 · 05/07/2021 14:27

I have the day off today and have achieved absolutely nothing. (Well, I went and rode my horse earlier, but that's not one of the many things on my 'to-do' list.

Have to take the dog to the vet later. Hopefully he will be home from his walk in time (it's nice having a dog walker who takes your dog for long walks, but it's embarrassing to have to ring the vet and say 'I'm so sorry. He's not in.')

MissConductUS · 05/07/2021 14:50

One of our cats likes to lie in the sun, the other not so much.

Independence Day was very nice. We had the lobsters and even had one leftover, as we had promised my MIL we'd have her over the next time they went on sale. It turned out that DH's nephew and his family were visiting her for the long weekend, so she wasn't free to join us. We did manage to Zoom with the whole lot of them, along with DD. DH shelled the leftover lobster and has frozen the meat for some future recipe.

Today is a federal holiday, so I'm off. Having washed DS's car yesterday, DH is planning on waxing it. Except it's no wax in the old fashioned sense. It's a spray that does the same thing, but lasts much longer and is easier to apply. Here's their website if you have any car waxers who might be interested:

thelastcoat.com/

It's also sold on Amazon, so it's probably available in the UK as well.

In TV watching new, I finished Land Girls, then gave Inspector Lewis a try. It was a bit too cerebral for me, possibly due to the setting in Oxford. I also think I've had a bit of a British entertainment overload, so I switched to Bosch, an Amazon Prime series about a dishy detective in Los Angeles. It is nice to not have to struggle to understand the accents.

Waxing the car - or even washing it. We do not have a car. We do not really need one living centrally, it is cheaper and less hassle to just take a taxi or hire a van when needed.

In other transport news - I will try and walk halfway to work (2,5 km). Physio says everything is fine and I should try it.

Squirrel Moving a horse is a very important part of a to do list! Much more important than clean skirting boards (whatever they are)

Silkiecats · 05/07/2021 19:28

DH left the back door open and some flies came in. I've been trying to kill them with fly killer spray I think I have succeeded with 3 but needed so much I may have killed myself in the process.

DH is out at his piano lesson. Silkiecat got cross as DH is being rude and then DS went to the bathroom.

DD had a good first day at school and signed up for 2 after school gcses.

Frownette · 05/07/2021 20:12

I'm going to do beetroot burgers tonight with vegetables and baby potatoes.

I did want to go to the supermarket to get a condiment and a lemon but then thought I can mix harissa hummus with some hot paprika and use that instead. I have fresh rolls. It's raining and cold outside, anyway.

Might watch The Fugitive after, never seen it! But it's got good reviews and I like a bit of Harrison Ford

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 05/07/2021 20:48

I love beetroot (rote Bete), but as I am the only one in my family...

soddingkitten · 05/07/2021 21:17

It is raining here. I’d planned to go out for a walk after dinner but it is too miserable.

We ran out of peanut butter today. DS1 has eaten pretty much a whole large jar by himself in a week after discovering hot buttered bagels. We had a shopping delivery yesterday. All the savoury bagels are gone. They used to last until the second half of the week. Only my cinnamon and raisin ones are safe as DS1 hates dried fruit. 😂

I can’t find my spare varifocals. The last time I remember seeing them was last July. I’ve looked everywhere I can think of. I’m now convinced I will only find them after my prescription has changed again and I’ve bought new ones.

snowy0wl · 05/07/2021 21:35

Hello. Another thread pointed me in this direction. 🙂 I haven’t had a chance to read back through the posts yet. @soddingkitten - my DH loves peanut butter too. Do you prefer smooth or chunky? I’m not a fan myself but I love cinnamon and raisin bagels.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 05/07/2021 21:35

sodding Have you checked your shelves? That's where I find mine usually - among the books, between flower pots, in files.

snowy0wl · 05/07/2021 21:36

@Frownette - I love The Fugitive! I’ll be interested to hear what you think of it.

Sunbird24 · 05/07/2021 21:58

I hate peanut butter. My mum knows this but still keeps telling me that I used to steal my sibling’s PB sandwiches when we were tiny.

MissConductUS · 05/07/2021 22:08

Welcome, @snowy0wl, and thanks for sharing your news and gastronomic views. How lovely that another thread directed you here.

Frownette, The Fugative is a classic. I have a soft spot for Harrison Ford myself.

We had a visitor earlier, perched on one of the metal posts in my front garden. He is only about two feet away from the bird feeder. I think he is contemplating a jump to the feeder so that he doesn't have to forage on the ground for dropped sunflower seeds.

We have a massive supply of fresh blueberries in the fridge from the trip to the farm DH and DS made yesterday, so I have a loaf of blueberry bread in the oven. It calls for orange juice, which we are out of, so I used some fresh lemon juice and lemonade with an extra bit of sugar. We had an extra lemon on hand from the lobsters last night. I grated some lemon peel and threw that in as well.

I am the very definintion of a thrifty New Englander. Smile

I think it helps to start with Morse, then maybe move on to Lewis. Morse was grumpily entertaining and Lewis was his long-suffering sidekick until he got his own series.

Which season of Bosch are you watching? I just watched season 7 and I think that might be the final one ever. Really enjoyed it.

HelenaJustina · 06/07/2021 06:34

I live very close to Oxford and keep hoping I’ll accidentally end up as an extra in an episode of Lewis. They also film Midsomer Murders round here but the mortality rate in that show is much higher so I’m happy to not make a guest appearance.

HildaTablet · 06/07/2021 09:27

They sometimes film Midsomer Murders near us too, Helena (Home Counties). We also seem to be a favoured location for Endeavour as we recognise quite a lot of places which are meant to be Oxford, but clearly aren't (DH was born and brought up in Oxford, so is good at naming colleges and pronouncing on the accuracy of locations).

Have you read any of the Bosch books, MissC? I think I've read them all, and really enjoy them, but I've yet to see the TV series. I think I'm afraid to because my mental image of Bosch would be shattered. It's a dilemma (a small one, admittedly).

In other news, I bought a mattress.
