Hellooo @snowy0wl!

The Fugitive was brilliant, gets your heart racing a bit at times even though you know the hero will survive.

I've got a delivery between 1.15pm and 2.15pm. A musical biscuit tin (birthday present)

Frownette · 06/07/2021 13:53

Musical biscuit tin has arrived. Well, they said it was what they wanted. Sounds like a full scale party is going on downstairs. Sometimes I get fed up of being around blokes all the time.

I should be able to get back to work tomorrow after the tonsil horrors. I can now eat, drink, swallow, not vomit, walk properly, temperature has come down a bit, and am starting to clean up the bedroom of doom.

@HelenaJustina

I live very close to Oxford and keep hoping I’ll accidentally end up as an extra in an episode of Lewis. They also film Midsomer Murders round here but the mortality rate in that show is much higher so I’m happy to not make a guest appearance.
My sister ended up as an extra in Morse by virtue of being in the right place at the right time...

Which season of Bosch are you watching? I just watched season 7 and I think that might be the final one ever. Really enjoyed it.

I'm watching the first season. I'm almost done with it at this point. I have seen the promotions for it on Prime Video for ages. I think it was seeing that they had just dropped the final season that caught my eye. I like shows with a lot of seasons and episodes available. One of my minor frustrations with some British TV series is that they are so short, looking at you Land Girls.

Have you read any of the Bosch books, MissC? I think I've read them all, and really enjoy them, but I've yet to see the TV series.

I have not, Hilda. Back when I was reading a lot I did read mysteries, but never that one. One of my favorites was the Spencer series by Robert B. Parker. The couple of TV adaptations of it that I've seen were okay but not great. I don't think the humor translates well. I also love that it's set in Boston, a charming city I know fairly well.

Frownette, I'm so glad that you're on the mend. Do look into getting those tonsils out. You won't miss them a bit.

I have never heard about this series or the books - I will check them out.
I expected the first name of the character to be Hieronymous and I was right - are there links to the work of this artist?
Bosch

I tested my foot by walking 4 km in sandals and in the heat - it worked, no pain. Yay!!!

MissConductUS · 06/07/2021 18:10

That's great news about your recovery, Prok. I hope I have similar new in a few weeks. I am getting a bit apprehensive about my surgery on Thursday.

In the first season of Bosch, there have been no references to the Dutch artist.

It's getting hot here again. I walked almost a mile at lunch time anyway.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/07/2021 18:32

@sunbird24 - That is fantastic!!!

miss Mr. Bosch's parents had a strange sense of humour then Smile

HildaTablet · 06/07/2021 18:58

Congrats on the foot news, Prok

Yes, Bosch's first name is Hieronymus (after the artist) but, as they say, he 'goes by' Harry. There are 21 Bosch books and the author of the series, Michael Connelly, smuggles him in as a spin-off character in another, related series featuring lawyer Mickey Haller, who's Bosch's half-brother. There's another, newer series pairing Bosch with a female detective, Reneé Ballard. I do know quite a lot about all these because they're my guilty reading pleasure!

Squirrel26 · 06/07/2021 19:02

I've bought several Bosch books for my dad for Christmas and birthday, but I've never read one.

I find it quite hard to keep track of which ones he's already got. I have the same problem with the Lee Child Jack Reacher books, which he also likes.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/07/2021 19:21

@HildaTablet - Thank you - I have put the books down on my - very long - reading list.

IWanderedLonely · 06/07/2021 20:46

If anyone is looking for a new set of detective books I can recommend the "Black Dog" series by Stephen Booth. Set in the Peak District.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/07/2021 21:28

iwandered - Noted!

Sunbird24 · 06/07/2021 21:33

Reporting in on my first Gousto (recipe & ingredients) deliverymeal - smoked basa (fish) and creamy lemon spaghetti…
Really quick and easy to make, great portion size, tastes fab, but for some reason to me it smells like tobacco!

MissConductUS · 06/07/2021 23:29

Squirrel, Lee Child lives in my area and several years ago I attended a talk he gave about his books. I've read quite a few in the Reacher series and consider myself a fan, so I was keen to go.

Did you know that he's a Brit? In the Q&A after his talk, I asked him why, as a Brit, he was writing books set in America, with American characters. His answer was simply that there was a much larger market for his books here than in the UK, so he could make a lot more money writing here. Grin

I think before he wrote novels he wrote screenplays for various television series in the UK, then struck out on his own.

I eventually lost interest in his books because they're a bit formulaic, but he certainly has a gift for writing.

There's a severe line of thunderstorms moving through at the moment, so I'm just hoping the power doesn't go out.

MissC if you're into reading you may have read Gone Girl? I watched the film earlier and was taken aback by how psycho she was!

Frownette · 07/07/2021 07:51

Prok that's brilliant about the feet, you must be so pleased!

Sunbird24 · 07/07/2021 10:18

I’m about to tackle building my new garden egg chair so I can sit out in the peace & quiet while the noisy neighbours are out

Sunbird24 · 07/07/2021 11:29

Bugger, they’re back

Silkiecats · 07/07/2021 14:04

We are about to have scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam with some strawberries to make it healthy.

Both the kids at school but just heard of a covid case at school in DS year so that could well be DS out of school for 10 days.

Frownette · 07/07/2021 14:11

Silkiecats we both follow the same logic - I got strawberry trifle first thing! I would not have done so had I not been following my health food diet

The stop-start nature of schools must be a nightmare

Silkiecats · 07/07/2021 14:29

DH has persuaded me to have a second scone - I tried to resist but he knew I was weak but at least I now have 4 of my 5 a day.

Yes the close contact rule in schools is really annoying, its 70 kids off every time 1 kid gets covid for 2 weeks. Though I think they are scrapping it after this term. We are awaiting the dreaded phone call though there's been 3 in his year so far and he's had 2 isolations so we may get lucky again. He'll probably think summer holidays came early if he gets it. Last time he was hacked off with me for teaching him when Boris had given him 2 months extra holiday. Hmm

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/07/2021 15:01

Here we have seating plans (traditionally teachers go to the class, not class goes to the teacher). DS had to isolate once because he sat next to the suspected case. Berlin is on summer vacation and DS thinks he can continue to to nothing.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 07/07/2021 15:51

We had strict seating plans, and even though the students moved around the school a lot, they had very few isolations. They also managed to stay 3' apart pretty consistently and wore masks whenever they were less than 6' apart. I've been agog at how badly hit UK students have been!

Silkiecats · 07/07/2021 16:04

Each class has a seating plan now but every class has a different one and its anyone who has sat within 2 metres in any of the classes goes off for 10 days (originally was 14 days until Dec 2020). Some classes like drama the whole class goes out as they can work with anyone. Generally the kids move rather than the teachers though that has changed sometimes now for covid. Our classrooms tend to be very small and top sets are bigger, sometimes 35 with 20 in lowest set. If they sat kids in the same order like alphabetical it would help, or move the teacher (though that is difficult for subjects like computing and science and food tech - having said that none of the practicals are happening). In primary its class bubbles so its not as bad. But they do options in secondary from y9 or y10.

The art teacher before forgot the seating plan so e-mailed the class to ask who sat next to them, behind them and infront of them. DS was Shock I have no idea. Then he always claims only girls get covid and tries to guess what girl it is.
