Ooh, I quite like the idea of a 6 month hibernation…

Silkiecats · 26/07/2021 01:08

Both the bedside tables are made and DHs soft toy koala has its own shelf.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 26/07/2021 01:48

The bedside tables sounds good @Silkiecats.

I hopefully have someone coming on Thursday morning to do some flat pack to put together, bed frame, chest of drawers, cupboard, shelves up, dining table and 2 chairs then curtain rails to go up and blinds on a few windows and moving the big armchair / sofa and covering it with new covers as cats have scratched the leather to bits as takes a few people to move it

Silkiecats · 26/07/2021 02:11

That'll be great to get all that sorted Frogs

Silkiecats · 26/07/2021 02:15

Silkiecat is continuing to be very brave, she is sitting on a step - this is the furthest she has got in the house in the past year, it must be at least 3 metres further than her usual spot and involves climbing about 12 stairs.

Squirrel26 · 26/07/2021 08:24

Watching the Olympic mountain biking. Oh my God, I thought the road cycling looked hard work…

Me too-go to sleep fat, and wake up skinny in time for the summer!

DS has gone into town to meet friends. He drove himself (with me as co-pilot) and "just happened" to engineer our arrival to coincide with the arrival of his friends on the train.

They missed the train and his glorious arrival was unwitnessed by anyone apart from the street drinkers Grin

MissConductUS · 26/07/2021 15:22

I've just booked DS's car in for service on the 9th of August. We'll get all of the 120k mile service items done and have it inspected so that it's in the best possible shape to take back to uni. It had a NY State inspection in April, but we have to do it again otherwise it will expire while he's away next spring. Each state has its own vehicle inspection scheme.

I had trouble falling asleep last night, so I expect to be a bit tired today.

It is very nice weather today; sunny and 21 degrees with a ‘moderate’ breeze. These are basically my ideal environmental conditions.

(I have a Spanish colleague who once said to me ‘when I arrived in this country everyone kept talking about the weather and I assumed they just found me boring and couldn’t think of anything else to say, but then I realised that you do all REALLY LIKE talking about the weather. Grin )

Nydj · 26/07/2021 17:21

@Squirrel26, it’s only right for me to add that it is also very nice here today and that I am very glad to have seen the back of the really hot weather. I have done some gardening as well as been on a walk.
That’s my dull update.

MissConductUS · 26/07/2021 19:12

The Subaru dealership has rung me back to inform me that Dennis, the lovely and brilliant mechanic who has worked on our cars for the last 20 years, has retired.

They have another long-term Subaru mechanic who is going to take us on as opposed to the new bloke who is switching over from working on Volkswagons. The dealer sells both brands.

And speaking of cars, I rang our insurance company to inform them that DS will be taking the car back to uni next month, which will cost us an extra $247 for the six month renewal. I can, however, get a small good student discount if I email them proof of DS's good marks. I have those from the parent portal. DD will have to email me hers, as her uni doesn't share student grades with parents.

It's hot here. I still went for a walk at lunchtime. I'm not as tired as I thought I would be this afternoon. I really hope I don't have trouble getting to sleep tonight again.

I have spent the day in a warm though well aired office and am now back home + 29°C and humid with storm warnings

IWanderedLonely · 26/07/2021 19:22

I made omlette for tea for DH & DS. I had a coffee flavoured slim-fast.
Also since DS moved back home the telly is always on showing unfunny comedies

Silkiecats · 26/07/2021 19:48

We had cheese and onion quiche and garden 🥗. Recycling bins day today.

Too hot for me still here but that's not that hot.

Gingerwarthog · 26/07/2021 22:00

Made lemon sponge - with buttercream icing and lemon curd.
Booked car in for new tyres.

MissConductUS · 26/07/2021 22:50

@Gingerwarthog, please accept my apologies for not welcoming you properly after your previous post, and thanks for sharing your delicious sounding mundane news.

DH orders tyres over the internet then pays our car dealer to put them on. Apparently, this saves us money and gives us a better selection.

We do the good student discount too MissC. I was a bit nervous when we put my youngest on the insurance as he was least likely to get good enough grades, but somehow he made Honor Roll last semester. Long may it last.

Gingerwarthog · 27/07/2021 07:45

Waving hoof at Miss C

PhloxOfSheep · 27/07/2021 07:53

I like the sound of this good student insurance discount. What a good idea. I don't think we have anything like that in the UK.

I have someone from John Lewis coming to measure us up for some new carpets this morning. They are supposed to be getting in touch to give me a time slot, but haven't yet.

Gingerwarthog · 27/07/2021 08:29

My Dad is staying with us.
I can hear him singing in the shower. (Fly me to the Moon).

HelenaJustina · 27/07/2021 16:11

We are on the second day of our two day beach break. We have had fantastic weather and a wonderful time.

Squirrel26 · 27/07/2021 16:41

That sounds lovely, @HelenaJustina.

Looking at fly spray (horse not human). One of them is advertised as ‘suitable for amateur use’. Couple of queries about this, including ‘how does one become a professional fly spray applicant’, and ‘which other substances might I have been happily applying to things without realising I was under qualified?’

Silkiecats · 27/07/2021 17:51

I think I may becoming professional at fly spray and I even diversified into moth spraying last night with around a 75% success rate. A few weeks ago I was at around 5%.

Watching women's Olympics gymnastics finals. Tonight we are putting the new tumble drier in place and putting old one out for collection as well as putting silkies swing up, giving more apple cider chicken vitamin drink, clearing their coop and mowing the lawn.

MissConductUS · 27/07/2021 18:06

You need a bug zapper. We have one (similar to this one) and it works a treat, with no chemicals.
