For me it's that woman in the vest top who spits her coffee out all over twitter

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 21/06/2021 22:49

Harry Potter bugs me the most.

MrsSnitchnose · 21/06/2021 22:52

Daenerys Targaryen and Molly Weasley

Andante57 · 21/06/2021 22:55

Marianne Dashwood

Northey in Don’t Tell Alfred by Nancy Mitford

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 21/06/2021 22:55

Piper from Orange is the new Black.
In the first series she was closer to the actual author but as it went on she just got completely unbelievable.

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2021 22:58

Is piper the main woman?

Bridget Jones...so bloody annoying!

OhWhyNot · 21/06/2021 23:01

All of the children in Harry Potter

Grace from The Undoing (the book is called
You Should Have Known) awful woman

Justkeepleft · 21/06/2021 23:04

Who wouldn't agree with @mrselizabethdarcy. I never understood Bridget Jones.
And the Shopaholic books main charachter

FrankiesKnuckle · 21/06/2021 23:04

Carrie Bradshaw. Awfully self centred.

FunTimes2020 · 21/06/2021 23:06

Mary from Corrie. So cringy to watch Hmm

MWestie · 21/06/2021 23:08

I love Jane Austen, but Emma Woodhouse.

cakebythepound1234 · 21/06/2021 23:08

Carrie from Homeland. Only watched 3 or 4 seasons but got fed up of the constant 'don't do that Carrie, it will cause big problems' and then her ploughing on ahead regardless of how risky and stupid her idea was - lo and behold it caused big problems. Every. Single. Episode. Had to stop watching because it made me so irate!

LadyGAgain · 21/06/2021 23:11

Bing.

SheepGoBaaaa · 21/06/2021 23:14

As I get older, Jane Eyre. She morphs from abused child to pinch-lipped self-righteousness, with legendarily terrible taste in men, and God forbid you be a good-looking woman like Blanche Ingram who looks in the general direction of her creepy boss, who was originally planning to seduce his penniless teenage employee because locking his unwanted first wife in the attic just wasn’t enough.

CatChant · 21/06/2021 23:16

Fanny Price - Mansfield Park - a wet hen,

Marianne Dashwood - Sense and Sensibility - melodramatic, gushy, self-obsessed PITA,

Lily Dale - The Small House at Allington and The Last Chronicle of Barset - another wet hen,

Amelia Sedley - Vanity Fair - yet another wet hen,

Mary-Lou Trelawney - Chalet School series - possibly the most irritating heroine in the whole of fiction and the self-styled "champion butter-in" and all round bossy boots has stiff competition.

I'm sure there are more...

36degrees · 21/06/2021 23:16

Amy March. Get straight in the bin.

Cassie71 · 21/06/2021 23:17

Grandpa Joe from Charlie and the chocolate factory. He was bedridden for 20 years, even when Charlie was born. It was all an act.

PrincessScarlett · 21/06/2021 23:21

@Cassie71 YES! Grandpa Joe for definite. He had Charlie's parents slaving away looking after him for years, supposedly bedridden, and then he's the one who swans off with Charlie to the chocolate factory. If I was Mrs Bucket I would have poisoned his cabbage soup!

MustardRose · 21/06/2021 23:22

Alan Partridge.

Monumental unfunny twat.

Hippee · 21/06/2021 23:26

Angel Clare from "Tess of the D'Urbevilles"

Cathy and Heathcliff from "Wuthering Heights"

The English Patient

Every character in "The Slap"

All of the Famous Five (loved them as a child, but find them classist bullies now)

SecondCityShark · 21/06/2021 23:30

Literally any character from any British soap. I have to switch over immediately if I accidentally land on a soap. Even just their overwrought facial expressions irritate me.

And that's doubly so for the ones who are the UK's 'favourites' like Barbara windsor (apols to all of her fans, to whom this will be sacrilege), the one in eastenders who wears too much make up or Letitia Dean etc.

So much negativity. So much screaming. Their characters are all appalling.

Who still watches this stuff? 🤔

BrimfulOfBaba · 21/06/2021 23:30

@FrankiesKnuckle

Carrie Bradshaw. Awfully self centred.
Absolutely this. Also seconding Piper from OITNB. She actually put me off watching it for a couple of years!
Smokeymirror · 21/06/2021 23:33

Elena from vampire diaries. Has all the boys wrapped around her finger and everyone always has to help/save her all the time.

MWestie · 21/06/2021 23:36

Mary-Lou Trelawney YES. Although I'm on the fence about Joey too.

thefirstmrsrochester · 21/06/2021 23:42

Cleo from Scabby Queen.
Rachel from The Girl on the Train
