Wallah! It's the first time I've seen voilà written this way. But when I think about it, it seems like a really obvious thing to do so I wonder how common it is.
Is it a "thing" that I've just missed before now?

Eugh, stupid app won't let me add the pic, but if it did, it would be an image of a sales post for ...... Sticking sex

Let me know when you've worked out what she's selling 🤣🤣

Family member of mine thought spaghetti bolognese was actually spaghetti bowl of naise

noblegreenk · 14/06/2021 19:30

20 years ago my first job was working on a classified ads paper. People would send in items they wanted to advertised like Chester draws. Also 3 pea suite and torboy (tallboy) were very common.

SymphonyofShadows · 14/06/2021 19:30

I’m surprised at how many people on MN think ‘a lot’ is one word.

cabingirl · 14/06/2021 19:30

@zgaze

There was a ‘swede sofa’ advertised on my local marketplace last week, in need of cleaning 😂

My forever favourite was the ‘shabby sheikh’ unit though.

A swede sofa is from Ikea, no?

"wollah" is a joke in a Terry Pratchett book.
‘You’d better get a move on, they’re halfway through the last act,’ said Ron. ‘She’ll be right,’ said Rincewind. ‘Okay . . . halve the peaches, put them in a bowl with the other things, and then add the brandy and voilà.’ ‘That some kind of foreign stuff?’ said Charley. ‘I don’t think we’ve got any of that wollah.’ ‘Just add twice as much brandy, then,’ said Rincewind. ‘And there it is.’ ‘Yeah, but what’s it called?’ said Ron. ‘I’m coming to that,’ said Rincewind. ‘Bowl, please, Charley. Thank you.’ He held it aloft. ‘Gentlemen . . . I give you . . . the Peach Nellie.’

Nonchalant?

Or an onion 😂

TeddingtonTrashbag · 14/06/2021 19:38

To be fair, the ‘v’ is often swallowed-listen to the French Eurovision entry and it does sound like ‘wallah’ if you don’t know the spelling.

BreakingtheIce · 14/06/2021 19:40

I keep seeing American spellings used all over the place. It’s autocorrect on a US setting I suppose. It drives me mad!

Confusedandshaken · 14/06/2021 19:41

We had plans drawn up for a new house (it's very common to self build n Ireland, we aren't rich or looking to go on Grand Designs). They included an "On Sweet' bathroom.

In the 1990s, a band named Dodgy brought out an album called Free Peace Sweet as a play on words. Little youngster AutistGoth (UndiagnosedBabyBat?) thought that this was the correct way to say it until my DDad corrected me!

@HelpMeh

Being generous, I assume they're not Arabic speakers...? In which case it's a legitimate word. It means "I swear to God".
I did not know that, but will now never forget that!

My current landlady constantly refers to the "window seals." I keep picturing these cute little aquatic mammals lined up there, sunning.

Twitchynose · 14/06/2021 19:45

Pacific for specific, drives me up the wall. Oh and adding ise to things, eg “just centralise the square in the layout”, no ise needed, just centre the flipping square!
I need to lie down before I have a fit of the vapours…

I quite like frog's born. At least it's justifiable.

Someone here wrote “non-shallot” the other day and seemed like it was the first time she was told that definitely wasn’t the word
