Wallah! It's the first time I've seen voilà written this way. But when I think about it, it seems like a really obvious thing to do so I wonder how common it is.
Is it a "thing" that I've just missed before now?

@Bluntness100

I have to be honest.

When people write “draws” instead of drawers it always surprises me. I understand many people are sadly functionally Illiterate, but when posting on a forum it’s clear you have a very basic grasp of being able to read and write. How people get to adult hood, have their own homes and don’t know it’s a drawer and not a draw always surprises me.

I have to admit, I can be guilty of writing draws if I'm in a rush or distracted, even though I absolutely know the right spelling. Also there/their/they're. It's like my brain goes too fast for my fingers. Strangely it never happens with your/you're though, or when typing slower on a phone, only on my laptop!

Rest bite. It amazes me how many people use it!

StarryStarrySocks · 14/06/2021 18:02

I was googling last night for some specific inheritance advice and came across a post on another forum going on about hares. I was absolutely baffled.

Only after reading more posts from other people did I realise it was meant to be heirs!

OpalBerry · 14/06/2021 18:07

Reminds me of WW1 soldiers calling Ypres "Wipers"
I love popcorn kettle black

elp30 · 14/06/2021 18:08

My ex-husband always writes "wallah" and it drives me bonkers.
He had a French grandparent, who spoke French at home, so you would think he'd know better 🤦🏻‍♀️

Goodmum1234 · 14/06/2021 18:11

Trump line on a Facebook page. Trampoline 😂 needed a good wipe down

Anoisagusaris · 14/06/2021 18:11

Drawers and draws don’t sound anyway alike in my accent and I’ve only been introduced to this madness on MN!

Howshouldibehave · 14/06/2021 18:11

@Faranth

Not a spelling error, but....
A one-seater sofa? Grin
JorisBonson · 14/06/2021 18:12

I saw a "loan moar" advertised the other day.

missmopple · 14/06/2021 18:25

There's another thread currently running where someone is selling a "box of assaulted soft toys". Grin

Disclaimer: Not that assault is anything to laugh about.

Faranth · 14/06/2021 18:29

DF always called hors d'oeuvres 'horse's doofers' when we were kids, to make us laugh. I really have to pay attention to not say that by accident!

zgaze · 14/06/2021 18:32

There was a ‘swede sofa’ advertised on my local marketplace last week, in need of cleaning 😂

My forever favourite was the ‘shabby sheikh’ unit though.

ValerieMorghulis · 14/06/2021 18:33

@Ruthietuthie

Last week there was a Mumsnet thread where someone was described as being rather "non-shallot." The thread rather sad in its content, and probably not the place for a grammar jump-on but it made me laugh. It will be non-shallot for ever from now on.
Oh, I saw “non-shallot” and it was all I could do to stop myself jumping in, but it would not have been helpful. I LOVE it!
Longdistance · 14/06/2021 18:34

I’m board. Yes dear, stiff as a board?!

Geamhradh · 14/06/2021 18:36

@Ruthietuthie, yes, thankfully most of the horrible posts taking the piss out of that poster's spelling were deleted.

Loopzy · 14/06/2021 18:41

I saw someone describe footballers as "pre-madonnas". I think my favourite is the "chez long" though!!

Nelia5 · 14/06/2021 18:41

People screaming that we need to close the boarders... usually in the DM comments

SnowyPetals · 14/06/2021 18:43

The ones on sales listings always make me smile. One ony local Facebook selling page ended with the stipulation of "No thyme wasters".

Mamette · 14/06/2021 18:47

I love this one- reaper cushions 😂

BalloonSlayer · 14/06/2021 18:48

I think it originally was "bran new." That's the phrase that Dickens uses when describing the Veneerings' life and house; everything is bran new.

BalloonSlayer · 14/06/2021 18:49

Just googled it and yes, it was because bran was used as packaging for new things.

Poochnewbie · 14/06/2021 18:49

I saw someone post on Facebook about “obsicles” at Go Ape today.

Leaveitonthefloordrobe · 14/06/2021 18:51

We had a letter from school which announced a non uniform day to "co-inside" with World Book Day. It's one thing seeing these things on FB and internet forums but I find it really unacceptable when it's official communication.

Poochnewbie · 14/06/2021 18:51

Also overheard a workman ask another why he looked so complexed.

SimonJT · 14/06/2021 18:54

Wallah is a word, it means I promise or I swear to god, but a lot of people use it to mean an expression of joy, something really good etc. It also sounds more like voilà than voilà does.
