Wallah! It's the first time I've seen voilĂ  written this way. But when I think about it, it seems like a really obvious thing to do so I wonder how common it is.
Is it a "thing" that I've just missed before now?

@ILoveShula - I think the book was trying to be neutral, but it should have been Its - not It's.

My Scottish boss always says sang-witch for sandwich.

A friend always types woant not won't, even if you reply with the correct spelling!

Somethingsnappy · 18/06/2021 18:01

The civil oranges made me snort with laughter and it woke my baby up!

On a sign in an estate agent window, it was written 'in a sort after place'. Grin

My mother's friend always said sang witch along with Dezember and brakefast.
Today a local cafe was welcoming a new member of staff and someone commented "Congratulations- a great new edition for yous" Hmm

@Biblionerd

Eugh, stupid app won't let me add the pic, but if it did, it would be an image of a sales post for ...... Sticking sex

Let me know when you've worked out what she's selling 🤣🤣

Yeah that was on the recent thread. Very funny as to why, when she could see them she'd call them that?!

@Benjispruce3

Oh and tender hooks instead of tenterhooks.
There used to be the mother of all arguments on here about tender v tenter hooks. Some real doozies 🤣

The linguist Arnold Zwicky hypothesises that it's what non-French speakers would automatically write if they knew the word aurally but not in writing

aurally Oh, the irony!

What's the irony here?

@Bloodypunkrockers I'm assuming @Bluedeblue has jumped to a wrong supposition here.

In a child's English exercise book:
'They went to Willie Wanka's factory'

I can't read that book with straight face now.

bitheby · 18/06/2021 19:43

I've had the tender v tenterhooks argument with my brother. He's also convinced that it's midrift. As in, the football hit him in the midrift.

Well, to be fair, my "mid" has been "drifting" since I hit 40...

'aurally' means to hear. I think the mistake being made was the the PP presumed that it should be 'orally', which is spoken.

I don't get it.
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/06/2021 13:31

There's a post on my local Facebook page at the moment which strongly reminds me of that "I have a spelling chequer" poem.

"We seen the lanturns an they cud harm locale animals. Sum people!!!"

It all makes sense phonetically, but unless you read widely and come across the words in context you won't necessarily know the spelling. ("Ponchus Pilot" in my case. He obviously worked for BA when he wasn't busy governing Judea Grin.)

Eh?*

I read this as selling prescription meds they get for free.

I’ve just seen “part and partial” on another thread….
