OK sorry to be goady but I know no one in rl who uses these most people have never heard of them and when they do they turn their noses up and would never want to use such a thing. Obviously great for those that do use it very green and eco friendly well done you but I cannot begin to contemplate using one I have super heavy periods low in iron because of and having to empty and wash that out getting covered in blood especially in public loos well... Why the hell would you far too much of a palaver if u ask me. Did buy some period pants but that's only so if leak it doesn't go everywhere but haven't even used those either.

You're not even aware that it's in most of the time

This has just reminded me that I need to take it out, I forgot 🤣

Keha · 10/06/2021 21:09

Sorry if this has been covered, but to everyone using them....I've always found tampons quite uncomfortable, has anyone found this but finds mooncup okay?

Yes, definitely. I used to be fine with tampons but since giving birth I have found them very uncomfortable and can always feel them when they're in. I have no issues at all with the mooncup being uncomfortable. I did have to chop the whole tail off but I think most people do. You just pinch the very bottom to break the seal/vacuum(?) and it comes out easily without any spillage, I'm not sure what the point of the tail is. Other cups don't seem to have one.

Yep me too.
That’s probably one of the reason I converted to the mooncup too.
Tampon just dry everything down there in a way the mooncup doesn’t.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 10/06/2021 21:38

I used one for about a decade. I shove it up in the morning and empty at night. What’s not to like?

TurquoiseDragon · 10/06/2021 21:43

I used one before the menopause. Heavy periods as well. Didn't have a problem, although I accept they're not for everyone.

catfunk · 10/06/2021 21:46

Depends on what kind of people you associate with. I use one and lots of my friend do.

RockPainting · 10/06/2021 21:46

Like PPs have said, mine’s great. Feels very clean, long lasting, environmentally friendly. I’m never going back!

PonDeReplay · 10/06/2021 21:47

I’m a moon cup fan. Cheaper and easier than tampons.

TableNiner · 10/06/2021 21:53

Moon cups are amazing. Sanitary products are terrible for the environment. I’ve had the same one for 13 years.

I can see how if you have issues with tampons they aren’t going to be very appealing but if you use tampons fine this is not really so different.

sometimescharlottesometimesnot · 10/06/2021 21:55

I used one in the past for years.now using period pants..love them both!

Arrierttyclock · 10/06/2021 22:06

I love my moon cup. I find tampons so uncomfortable but I don't find that all with a moon cup!

Faranth · 10/06/2021 22:12

I really wanted to love my mooncup, but couldn't get on with it because of some injuries I sustained during childbirth which makes it painful.

But I do use reusable pads, which are fab.

chickychicchic · 10/06/2021 22:15

I've had mine for years and love it

Replaced the original with a copy one but although at first I thought it was just as good I am finding it leaky and not as easy to put in so going to get a proper moon cup one

I have a dummy steriliser that I clean mine in and store it in it

So long as you are careful when you take it out to keep it upright it's not messy

First day it needs changing more but then can definitely leave it all day and I wear a washable pad just in case

BogRollBOGOF · 11/06/2021 00:09

@feelabitguilty

I would love to use them but can’t even get a tampon in there without difficulty (I might be the only person I know who got the applicator physically stuck to me somehow) - so think a mooncup is definitely out of the question !
I could never get on with applicator tampons and non-applicators weren't brilliant either. Tampons were a necessary and often uncomfortable evil to do things like swimming. The dryness made them hard to use. The silicon of the cup is much easier to push in. It doesn't necessarily follow that tampons and cups behave in the same way.
SingingSands · 11/06/2021 00:22

I used a mooncup from ages 27 to 40, when I hit menopause. It was fantastic and changed my period experience for the better - no more cramps, easier to manage, just made it a breeze to deal with.

MothersPridePlain · 11/06/2021 00:36

I have used one since my periods came back after I had my first baby in 2006 and my periods were so painful

It changed my life in all honesty

Mousetown · 11/06/2021 05:05

@justfuckoffthelottayer

So how do u not get it everywhere when u take it out I'm willing to be educated how do u not get on hands or spill it? Also e interesting to know ages of those that use it as maybe I am older and stuck in ways? Also never seen one in shops do they sell them. If u changed from years of using other products and had super heavy periods how do u get over the fear of it not working?
I’m 40 and have used them for 5 years. My period pain stopped instantly when I started using them. I bought mine from Boots who have about three different brands on the shelves. I’ve also seen them in most big supermarkets.
RestingPandaFace · 11/06/2021 07:52

If you are finding your cup uncomfortable have a look at the putacupinit website. They have a quiz to help you choose which cup to buy I switched from a kind cup to a saalt and it’s made a world of difference.

FilledWithRageAlways · 11/06/2021 08:06

I love mine- total game changer. I can swim, don't have to deal with pee soaked tampon strings or find a loo every 2hrs (that has a tampon bin). Another great find -period pants. I am so glad to have options around menstruation. I'm in my 40s now and only wish we had these options 20years ago.

Ginmakesitallok · 11/06/2021 08:33

I've used one for a few years now. I have heavy periods, so have to empty it every 3 hours or so on heaviest days, and during the night on heavy nights. Still prefer over tampons- which I'd need to change hourly sometimes. They are more comfy than other san pro, much more environmentally friendly, cheaper, what's not to love? They are great for Swimming, no tell tale cords hanging out and no absorbing water.

MiloAndEddie · 11/06/2021 08:52

Another one using a cup.

Honestly I put it off for ages, literally gave me the ick to think about it. But what changed for me was I was finding it more and more difficult to find the tampons I liked. My periods are really heavy but the first day I can get away with one empty at lunchtime, another when I get home and another before bed. I’d have got through at least 6 tampons in that time, more if you include overnight.

It’s not an exaggeration when I say it’s actually changed my life.

I started by wearing it when I was at home to give me an idea of how often it needed changing, how to do it and not make a mess etc. I think it took 3 cycles for it to click.

The putacupinit quiz is really good. I have a Saalt cup rather than a moon cup

Pinuporc · 11/06/2021 08:56

My 20-something nieces use them and are quite upfront about it. I also use one but the only people that would know are teen DD, DH and my sis. It's not something I discuss with friends.
I started using one during lockdown last year to test it out when I didnt have to go anywhere!

EishetChayil · 11/06/2021 08:58

I've used one for the past 15 years, when they were still quite hard to come by.

36degrees · 11/06/2021 09:05

I can't use cups due to birth injuries but can use discs (which sit higher up, from what I can tell) and these have been complete game changers as my periods have got heavier in the last few years. I use period pants at night/on lighter days.
