I can't think why else it would just have been announced.

And yes I'm sure there are other treads on it. I'm particularly interested in what possible news stories it could be deflecting from.

More revleations from Dominic Cummings?

HmmmmmmInteresting · 30/05/2021 00:18

The only other thread I saw seems to have been deleted.

Yes, maybe they brought the marriage forward because it's good PR at a time they're getting bad PR. My friend wasn't even aware Boris was a serial adulterer with 'at least 6 children' and the whole he and Carrie getting together through an affair while his wife had cancer. She'd been wondering why he'd never been married and was pleased for him 🤨

Maybe Joe public will think it's a cause for celebration

doubleshotespresso · 30/05/2021 00:21

I think as his legally wedded spouse Carrie cannot be called as a witness in any proceedings/charges brought against him, so a deft trick?!

baroqueandblue · 30/05/2021 01:01

Pure deflection from the Cummings 'revelations', although apparently Downing Strasse is refusing to confirm or deny. Not like him to be so coy about his womanising 🙄

I’m with you on this, I’m pretty sure it’s a judicious legal move rather than about being together forever
Sparklingbrook · 30/05/2021 01:07

This one is still going strong

No idea if they’re trying to cover anything up I only found out the news from that thread not seen it anywhere else yet. Not sure.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 30/05/2021 01:08

Does all seem rather suspect doesn’t it?

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 30/05/2021 01:13

I am nervous about why they have got married now.

Geppili · 30/05/2021 01:31

What @doubleshotespresso said, for sure. Also so he can get a new mistress.

alexdgr8 · 30/05/2021 01:32

i thought the catholic church required the couple to complete a marriage preparation course, or did he get a pass on that one, like so much else ?

100%.

I knew he’d have some strategy to refocus the media.

Harry's truth telling?

Gothichouse40 · 30/05/2021 01:39

It's a very good story to deflect from the new hybrid variant that now seems to be in Vietnam.

Imagine waking up on your wedding day knowing you're nothing more than a lying bullshitting coward's strategy!

Really? I ask as someone who is getting married in sept
Gothichouse40 · 30/05/2021 01:57

Myuser, yes really. Vietnam is battling a hybrid variant.

@HmmmmmmInteresting that makes me despair. And I'm sure your friend isn't the only one.

@doubleshotespresso I bet that's it!

@alexdgr8 good point. I just googled and actually just read this on the BBC:
Catholic canon law does not permit the marriage of a divorcee whose former spouse is still alive, although annulments can be granted to certify the original marriage as invalid from the start.

Just assumed it was to change news agenda away from Cummings. I would have felt sorry for Carrie but suspect it was her idea.

Jennyfromtheculdesac · 30/05/2021 06:37

Maybe Carrie is an avid Mumsnetter and it was at her insistence?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 30/05/2021 06:43

I assumed news story deflection, but the spouse-cant-testify point is very interesting.

I thought divorcees couldn't remarry in a Catholic Church?

newnortherner111 · 30/05/2021 06:46

If you were trying to cover up bad news, you would not marry on a bank holiday weekend. If Mr Johnson thought it might, then his timing is poor, but as he is late to make almost all decisions, par for the course.
