How many steps do you walk a day?

I’ve recently began tracking mine and I’m wondering if I’m the norm or if I’m a lazy sod or an active one… so if you track your steps, how many?

I normally average 10-12k, 15k on a good day. Before I started my sedentary job I would often do 18-22k.

NeverMetANiceOne · 24/05/2021 20:33

12-15k, my fitbit usually starts celebrating 10k steps at about 3pm, I celebrate with a diet coke because I'm a massive loser Grin

Northernsoullover · 24/05/2021 20:35

Usually 8 -10. If I'm not working its 3k.

I think the average is between 3-4000 for most adults. Pre covid I got 6-8000, if in London 10-12,000. Now I may not even get 3000 unless I get on the treadmill! I'm 59, which makes a difference. My kids (teens) probably do 20-30,000.

traumatisednoodle · 24/05/2021 20:38

Last week wasn't great. I aim for 6-8k

8000 - I'm at home at the moment / no commute

Whoateallthechocolate · 24/05/2021 20:40

I have a desk based job. I usually go for a walk before work but missed that this morning and missed my lunchtime stroll due to the rain and haven't hit 4000 steps yet today! Usually, I'd expect to do 10 - 12,000 but it does involve having to do a couple of walks a day.

Pivotthesofa · 24/05/2021 20:41

Usually about 17k

On a very good day about 21k

Hottesttrikeintown · 24/05/2021 20:41

I aim for 15K a day and usually hit 15-20. I don’t drive and walk everywhere so I recognise I’m not the norm! Also many walks end in the pub so not as healthy as it sounds!

Watchingthetelly · 24/05/2021 20:42

Recently only a paltry 3k to 6k. It’s very easily done when working from home and you have almost zero personal time to exercise/get outside

Varforinte · 24/05/2021 20:42

Do people really do these many steps? Or maybe my pedometer is broken Grin.

I take public transport to walk, am a teacher who has to go up and down stairs like a yo yo, then i walk the dog for an hour or more. That is between 10 and 15 k. A few hours of dogwalking at the weekend can bring me up to 20 k.

Without the dog, I'd be doing 5 - 7 k weekdays and I think I have an active job. Less on the weekends (because I'm lazy!).

Juanbablo · 24/05/2021 20:43

I did just over 12k today. Walked to and from work, walked the dog and have a fairly active job.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 24/05/2021 20:43

About 10 to 12k 15k on a good day but I have a dog that needs lots of exercise.
I am fatty though so I can't be that healthy.

Soulstirring · 24/05/2021 20:46

6-8k, desk job. Take pup for a medium walk in the evening

OublietteBravo · 24/05/2021 20:48

I usually manage 100,000 per week. (My record is 150,000).

Lookdeepintotheparka · 24/05/2021 20:48

I try and aim for 7,500 which is as much as I can manage with a desk job and Teams meetings all day 🙄

Normally do around 10,000 steps at the weekends especially over the last year when catching up for walks with friends or family!

sourrain · 24/05/2021 20:48

Busy work day, up to 17,000.

Average work day, 10,000-14,000.

Average day off, 6,000-10,000.

Ill/pain day (having too many of these recently), 2,000-3,000 - that's just around the house getting up every hour or so for a cup of tea etc.

MirandaWest · 24/05/2021 20:49

My average is about 18,000 steps a day. I work from home in a sedentary job so I have to make sure I get the steps in. I run 4 times a week, go for a (fairly brisk) 40 min walk every lunchtime and sometimes a walk later on in the day as well.

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/05/2021 20:50

I do about 15k a day, weekend walks up to 25/30k. I do avoid using the car as much as possible though and will walk at every opportunity. We also live in the countryside so easy to go for miles. It all adds up!

BorderlineHappy · 24/05/2021 20:51

Today its 14,723 which is not too bad and its around my usual.

RedRiverShore · 24/05/2021 20:55

I’m retired so anything between 3000 and 25000, we often go for long walks but some days I do very little. When I was at work it was about 10000 on a workday which usually included a walk at lunchtime

Serafinaaa · 24/05/2021 20:59

Normal daily activity 5-6k
I have to make a small amount of effort to get to my 10k target eg, go for a walk rather than just walking around my house.

Gigia · 24/05/2021 20:59

Between 15000-20000

Iquitit · 24/05/2021 21:00

When I'm at work anywhere between 15 & 20k, depending on exactly what I'm doing, less if I need to sit with someone for example.
Days off and between 10 & 15k, but I clearly need to up this as I'm not very fit at all and quite overweight.
On rare days that I don't walk the dog or go out I'm lucky to hit 5k.

ColourMeExhausted · 24/05/2021 21:01

Usually between 15-20k. Average was 19000 according to FitBit a month or so ago but I've since injured my back and can't run right now which is very frustrating. I work from home but try to do several power walks during the day. I have small DC so get a lot of steps racing around the house, if I'm not at my desk it's rare I'm ever sitting down to rest till late on. For example, spent all today with DS 3 and I'm on 21k steps!

I do get a bit obsessed with it. I appreciate it's not going to lose me any weight but if I don't achieve at least 14,000 I'm annoyed with myself.
