We had those dining chairs when I was a kid in the 70s ❤️

MFI I would guess!

I haven't noticed nasty comments. Unless saying it reminds you of grandparents' houses is nasty. ConfusedI think for most people it has brought back fond memories.

Etinox · 21/05/2021 20:58

It’s beautifully maintained and I bet the garden was amazing!

Christinayangtwistedsister · 21/05/2021 21:05

What happened to Barometers, lots of houses used to have them?

thegreylady · 21/05/2021 21:05

It looks like a home. Lived in for many years probably by people who were proud of their own little house. It looks full of loneliness and doesn’t deserve to be mocked.

AfternoonToffee · 21/05/2021 21:07

My MIL'S house has an original 1920's wall cupboard and a pulley airer. I imagine they will be ripped out by any new owner.

ChubbyMsSunshine · 21/05/2021 21:08

@NotExactlyHappyToHelp

I didn’t take the tone of this thread as mocking. I thought it was more a nice nostalgia kind of thing. Maybe I’m wrong 🤷🏼‍♀️
This is how I read this thread too. And that living room carpet is glorious, I love it.

OP, ignore the grumps.

AfternoonToffee · 21/05/2021 21:09

Yes she has a barometer in the house too.
AfternoonToffee · 21/05/2021 21:10

doesn’t deserve to be mocked.

No one is mocking, absolutely no one.

ChubbyMsSunshine · 21/05/2021 21:11

@Looksabitbig

We're laughing at other people's houses now, especially ones where the owner is likely to have died? Hmm
Nope, we're definitely not. Have you read a single post on this thread?!?!
Cocolapew · 21/05/2021 21:17

My mum has a barometer and I have flying birds. They were my Grans and are pheasants.
I'm baffled by some of these posts some people need to fuck off and be offended somewhere else, this thread isn't mocking in any way.

Christinayangtwistedsister · 21/05/2021 21:19

My Grandparents had one in the porch, next to the tomato plants, I used to love tapping it to see if it would move

GirlCrush · 21/05/2021 21:25

it feels reassuringly comfortable....a proper grandparent home

NerrSnerr · 21/05/2021 21:28

@Chloemol can you say which comments are nasty? Anyone being nasty about this I can imagine would be classed as 'not in the spirit and MNHQ will delete but I can't see any myself.

I hope that whoever owned the house had a lovely life in it and whoever is selling it has lovely memories from the house.

Ghislainedefeligonde · 21/05/2021 21:35

It’s so weird that so many posters are offended by this thread. I haven’t read a single post which is negative about the house. Lots of positive ones.
I love the house and the sitting room carpet is amazing! I wish carpets like that were still available. I’ve just recently moved into a house which had belonged to same person for many many decades. We are keeping as much of the original stuff as possible

Onestepfowardoneback · 21/05/2021 21:40

@Hen2018

Oh, I see it is supposed to be funny. I’ve just spent 3 months clearing my relations’s house out after her death.

The houses of older people aren’t always full of modern things. Let’s take the piss out of a clean, tidy and quite pleasant house.

@Hen2018 so sorry for your loss 💐
Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 21/05/2021 21:50

Those photos are so nostalgic of happy times at my Grandparents’ house. I feel almost emotional seeing some of those things.

HelgaDownUnder · 21/05/2021 21:55

@AdditionalCharacter

Houses like this make me feel quite sad that they lived with such old furniture/carpets. Makes me wonder if they chose to live like that or if they couldn't afford to upgrade.
Modern trendy items are not inherently superior to old ones. The home is clean and none of its fittings look dilapidated or disfunctional. If everyone kept stuff till it wore out we wouldn't be facing an environmental crisis. I can guarantee you that today's modern upgrade is tomorrow's sad relic of a dying fad. I like the vintage look anyway.
YesIDoLoveCrisps · 21/05/2021 22:00

I love this house and if I bought it I wouldn’t really change it. It’s got such a good vibe, it’s so well loved.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 21/05/2021 22:19

Lovely bungalow, really like this! I wish I could check out the china in the cabinet - I'd wager it'll all be made in Stoke-on-Trent and be beautiful and hard-wearing.

Spinningaround18 · 21/05/2021 23:19

What a horrible thread 💔

KinseyWinsey · 21/05/2021 23:19

I felt sad looking at this.

Livingintheclouds · 21/05/2021 23:26

Lighten up people! The op didn't make fun of the house at all. A heart emoji about the chairs - what's mean about that?

TiltTopTable · 21/05/2021 23:28

What's wrong with "old" furniture? Most of mine is antique! I'm sure they were perfectly happy with their decor, and would laugh at you being "sad" about it. The house looks loved and clean and tidy to me. You sound judgemental and shallow.
cheeseismydownfall · 21/05/2021 23:31

There are some fabulous pieces in the house, and it looks unbelievably well maintained. It would be wonderful if it was bought by someone with a passion of the era who would retain the kitchen etc while also bringing it up to date and adding their own style.
