One project a day- 2nd thread!

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

Excellent work, everyone! I don't remember to update this everyday but I will when I can. Busy week this week as I have two rooms to finish off before a week away camping next week. Yesterday's job - finish painting and unpack the utility room. ✅ Today's job will be to build the flat pack shelves so I can move all the garage junk to the new storage room tomorrow.

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 25/05/2021 16:20

@BlueLobelia I have loads of those clothes. One day...😂

BlueLobelia · 25/05/2021 16:27

Ooh! Camping! Have fun. We have some day trips planned for half term. I am very much looking forward to it.

I've done alot today (and finished a work project ahead of deadline - pats self on back) and now I am planning a lovely vegetarian meal for DH tomorrow..... something a bit special. He tends to fend for himself meal-wise as I do the cooking and children-wrangling so I want to just make something nice as a surprise. (he's not that interested in food but likes it when I do something nice). I am thinking along the lines of a mushroom and blue cheese wellington.

Project DS’ Room is finally underway. After his successful decluttering of transformers he’s now tidying up his room - I wrote a little list of what to focus on (he’s autistic and would struggle with just “tidy up”).

Meanwhile I’ve carried on with genuine decluttering, I know it’s not really a specific project but it’s something I can do when stuck on the sofa!

Ooh camping, I'm so envious you could not imagine. I hope the weather is good to you and you all have fun.

Well, today I managed an Asda delivery, I say managed as got it so wrong last time. There's no hope for some Grin
I also have an office/ bedroom now. Not sure what officy things I'm going to be doing yet, but I have a desk/ dressing table, that I'm convinced I'll clear off everyday.

Lots of projects big and small, well done folks.

Chunkymonkey123 · 25/05/2021 19:14

Today I did 30 more minutes of weeding. I’ve probably spent 5 times that amount of time on mumsnet!! Really tired and unmotivated atm. About to go to the gym though, my DH said it would be a waste of money if I joined so now I have to prove him wrong!

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 25/05/2021 21:13

Thanks @Devlesko. The weather has been pretty touch and go so it could go either way! 😬

2020nymph · 25/05/2021 22:42

A couple more items added to the donation box, a bit of gardening and I had an empty laundry basket.... for half a day!

cheeseychovolate · 25/05/2021 23:24

In-laws have gone away for a few days so I'm on a mission to clean their house from top to bottom and get rid of that musty smell. So I've cleaned all the windows today, cleaned the bedrooms, cleaned the lounge diner, taken all the rugs and throws home to wash. Tomorrow I'm going to tackle the bathroom and on Thursday the kitchen.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 25/05/2021 23:43

I’m in Australia and had plans to go to Melbourne next weekend for a big family birthday party but it looks like new COVID restrictions will stop that.

I’m working on plan B which involves family flying to visit us instead. I need to get confirmation from family members and then make provisional bookings for them.

Stage 2 involves decluttering my office so a) it looks like a guest room and b) it is possible to open out the sofa into a bed. Realistically, that needs to happEn no matter what and it will be a project done over several days.

SpringCrocus · 25/05/2021 23:58

Can I join in?
Today I had my second jab, so any plans went a bit awol later on as I felt unwell

Did sort out sewing basket and prioritise it, also pricked out a load of flower and veg plants.
And sorted out several kitchen drawers which were dumping drawers for random stuff. Not any more!

DownUdderer · 26/05/2021 04:18

A couple more steps have been scrubbed. Gardening done. Second curtain sewn and hung up. Tomorrow I'm not sure what little project to tackle.

One project a day- 2nd thread!
SingToTheSky · 26/05/2021 08:03

Hope you feel better today spring welcome! I had my second jab on Thursday and I felt ill again but it didn’t last nearly as long as after the first.

Continuing the upstairs move-around today - focusing on DS’ room still. He’s struggling with the change and is worrying about how he will keep his Lego safe (the walls are crap so lots of wall shelving isn’t an option). I ordered a couple of display shelves to go on top of his Trofast units which will increase the display space a bit. I also realised we have two shelf dividers that can go on his Kallax but I will leave sorting those till the other bits arrive on Thursday. Today he can focus on tidying his room generally.

I think I’ll get our room ready for the desk as some big boxes need moving. Also unrelated to this project I could move some stuff upstairs so I can carry on with general decluttering. But first I need to get a grumpy 3yo ready for nursery.

SingToTheSky · 26/05/2021 08:03

Curtain looks great down! Love the colour

Devlesko · 26/05/2021 12:51

Asda delivery due any time, have tidied kitchen, put some washing in dryer and some away.
Hopefully going to find time before tea to organise my office and a bit of housework.
Tonight I am finally getting stuck into my ancestors obsolete language, which should be a challenge, as he speaaks so fast with an Australian accent, which doesn't help.
Nothing wrong btw with Australian accent. Grin It's a kind of Australian Welsh, if you can imagine.

Devlesko · 26/05/2021 12:55

Oh dear, have just noticed it's New Zealand accent, sorry Australians. x

Fnib · 26/05/2021 12:56

I gave the bath a good scrub today before work. I wipe it down after use but every now and again it seems to need cif/Ajax type stuff.
I cleaned a window at work Blush
I may or may not make it to garden centre later.

SydneyCarton · 26/05/2021 15:29

Been reading but not posting - everyone is doing brilliantly.

Keeping up with maintaining the clean bathroom one bit each day and it looks so nice - apart from the crappy bath and pedestal mats which really need to go. I had a quick look in Next the other day and spotted a couple of potential replacements, so that might be a project for another day.

Yesterday's project was to re-stick a couple of iron-on school logo badges on the DDs uniforms and put one on DD1's new PE hoody. Today I think it'll be clearing out a couple of drawers in the fridge and tossing anything that's expired - I'm sure I've had one of the jars in there longer than I've had my toddler Blush

Peridot1 · 26/05/2021 16:25

Not much achieved here. Still haven’t done Tupperware drawer which was Monday’s task. Or paperwork.

Had a friend over for a walk yesterday and ended up giving her a tour of the house. Which was embarrassing as it’s so messy. But it’s made me realise I really need to do it. Some bits are difficult at the moment s we are waiting for a tiler to finish downstairs loo and shower in main bathroom.

Today I changed DS’s bed and cleaned his bathroom. And cleared some of the rubbish from his room. He’s 19 and stuck at home rather than being at uni so I’m giving him a bit of slack. Have decided we need to good clear out in his room though so will maybe get him to do that for half an hour tomorrow.

And I have booked flights to Ireland for Sunday. My dad has cancer and I haven’t seen him since Jan 2020. I’m double jabbed now though so should be ok. PCR test booked for tomorrow. Will be away for ten days.

BlueLobelia · 26/05/2021 17:48

Nothing achieved here. I was ill overnight with a vomiting bug so have spent the day in bed and MNetting. Still feeling very queasy and ick.

@Peridot1 I am so sorry about yuor dad but it is good you can travel. Hope it all goes really well. Thanks

Not achieving much here thanks to isolation with toddler. Absolutely nothing yesterday, managed to mow the front lawn and do a bit of weeding today but the house is a complete tip!

Sparklynewname · 26/05/2021 19:19

Today was another driving lesson for DS and I have picked some paint off the kitchen tiles.

mamakoukla · 26/05/2021 21:26

💐 and ☕️ to all. Today I didn’t do too much but I did contact a friend to go for a walk, populate the calendar so I can see blocks of time, and now dinner is on. Still under stay at home order but can meet up to five people outside. Went for a drive with DH to the recycling centre to discard of old paint and also to collect a new garden hose. Heady stuff!
