One project a day- 2nd thread!

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

I’ve spent the day washing and hoovering. Folding washing and putting it away.
The car is full of stuff to go to the tip tomorrow after I drop DS off at work.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 13/08/2021 00:14

In lockdown now so my major task for the day is to decide whether or not to get out of bed. Just kidding.

DH is working from home and I don’t have anything on today. I’m going to sort out the bathroom cupboards. I might even get start on recovering that bloody chair!

Sparklynewname · 15/08/2021 22:32

Got the door handles onto three doors today. Not much but things are progressing. We also put some stuff into the loft yesterday to clear a little room.
We went to have a look at flooring for our lounge yesterday. It’s going to be expensive. We’ll wait a while before we do that!

Peridot1 · 16/08/2021 09:36

Hi all

My visitors left on Saturday. Have just about recovered!

This week’s plan is to get the house back to how it was when they arrived. So stripping and washing bedding, towels etc. Will use the opportunity to sort out the airing cupboard as it’s a bit of a mess.

A general tidy of the house and then I will revisit the list of jobs/projects still left to do.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 16/08/2021 14:39

Got nothing done today. Work was an absolute farce!

I was told something on Friday and planned accordingly. I got an email at 9am telling me it had changed so I changed my plans accordingly. And then the other person didn’t even bloody well show up! Much hassle, some of which I kicked up to my boss. We’ve been asked to provide daily reports. I did. In detail. And in a very direct manner. Boss (also known as fuckwit) was very patronising to me in two meeting today. For the third, I zoomed from a different spot with my many books on our subject matter behind me. She seemed a bit more understanding at that point.

I’ve also been offered overtime again. I told DH there was no fucking way. He then reminded me of my daily rate so I have agreed to Fridays for the next month but refused to do Thursdays. They’ll have to find some other sucker for that.

I feel better after getting that off my chest, thank you. Hopefully, less work crap tomorrow a d more time to get stuff done. I’m work8ng fro home and I didn’t even manage to get a load of laundry in today!

Raaraaboonah · 16/08/2021 17:10

I'm joining for a little accountability on actually doing some things on my to do list but also giving myself some credit for the things i do get done. I often feel overwhelmed by the amount to do and forget to look back on what I have acheived.

anyway, does cutting all three sons' fingernails count? if so then I've done my first project!

mamakoukla · 16/08/2021 18:07

So, more of a round up of the few days - household tidy except for items in three storage boxes which are to be sorted through, laundry and more laundry, donations packed to go, had DC’s friends over (tidied up and laundry after that), presents and cards organized, finally booked a hairdresser appointment (squeal!).

For today’s task I have to write some reviews I promised local businesses. I have been studiously avoiding the laptop… okay I’m going to go do now thank you people

Somuddled · 16/08/2021 19:53

Joining in please. I did an 'Alexa Tidy' which just involves setting Alex to a 15 minute timer and seeing how much I can get done I that time. It is always more than one would expect.

I also moved some boxes, not to their final home but out of the way at least.

Raaraaboonah · 16/08/2021 20:59

I have also made all the boys try on school uniform to check what fits and moved too small sizes out of their drawers and retrieved the next sizes up to be ready when they have the inevitable growth spurt two weeks into term. without needing to drink wine or swear too much at the end of it

have also made an appointment at Clarks for feet measuring and fresh hell school shoe shopping.

Somuddled · 16/08/2021 21:31

This thread also inspired me to clean out all the milk bottles and put them on the doorstep.

Sparklynewname · 18/08/2021 20:39

We are keeping at it. I have assembled another guitar wall rack for DS’s room tonight but he is exhausted so we will put them up tomorrow evening.
DH and I have drilled and fitted the bathroom door handle and it’s attached and works! It can be removed to paint the door one evening this week.
DD is moving back in so we absolutely must get all of DS’s gubbins out of her bedroom so she has space to move into.

Peridot1 · 19/08/2021 09:03

I’m plodding on with washing of towels and bedding. Using opportunity to sort the airing cupboard so have towels spread out on spare bed once they are washed and will sort properly and cull old ones. Will do the same with bedding and blankets. A lady in the village takes donations to pass on to refugees so they will go there.

Otherwise I’ve washed all the bins over the last few days. We have a recycling/rubbish under counter set of bins in the kitchen and I washed all three out over the last few days.

Cleaners are in today so I’m just planning on a general tidy around and will strip my bed.

New tumble dryer arriving tomorrow so hoping I can plough on with washing and drying bedding. My current one is rubbish so I end up with bedding hanging all over the house to dry on various airers if I can’t hang it outside. New one should be much better.

mamakoukla · 20/08/2021 01:34

DC and I finally got long overdue haircuts! And dropped off trousers to be shortened ready for the new school year.

Chunkymonkey123 · 20/08/2021 10:09

I’ve put all the camping stuff away, returned some parcels and did some painting.

Peridot1 · 20/08/2021 14:58

New tumble dryer is here and is connected. Have a bedding wash on ready to go in! I couldn’t dry any bedding in my old dryer as it would end up in a massive wet ball no matter what I did. This one is supposed to be much better. Fingers crossed!

Used the opportunity to take everything out of the utility room so I could give the floor a good wash. Just waiting for that to dry.

Going to the pub tonight for dinner with DH I think so once I put the utility room back together I’m going to sit and read for a while.

Sparklynewname · 21/08/2021 21:47

Bathroom door has been under coated and sanded ready for next coat. DH has got paint all over the landing carpet and my bath mat. Bless him. Not loads but white paint is always obvious. Thank goodness it wasn’t me who painted it though because I am so messy.
I have spent the day washing, folding washing and vacuuming.

Peridot1 · 22/08/2021 09:58

Morning all.

New tumble dryer is fab. Bedding doesn’t end up in a huge wet ball!

Concentrating on keeping house generally tidy having gotten there before my sister and family arrived is really working. We had our neighbours over for dinner last night and it took me 20 minutes to tidy around downstairs and vacuum and clean kitchen work tops.

Lazy day today. Just doing some washing. Hoping it will be nice enough to sit outside with my book this afternoon.

Tomorrow I’m sorting the airing cupboard.

Sparklynewname · 22/08/2021 19:31

I’ve done some baking today, brownies, Dorsey apple cake and banana loaf. Yummy.

Sparklynewname · 22/08/2021 21:01

Urgh Dorset Apple cake!
Also DH has painted the bathroom door. I am sitting in the bath and getting high from paint fumes and it was done this morning 🤢
Handle can go back on tomorrow.

SydneyCarton · 23/08/2021 08:35

Routine gets so out of whack in the holidays, but I am back to work today so hoping for a bit more self discipline! Children still have another week left, so one thing I need to do is a school uniform audit to see what still fits and what can be kept or donated. MiL has kindly bought them both new cardigans and pinafore dresses for winter uniform so I’m hoping their summer dresses fit for the next six weeks and then they’re in winter stuff after half term.

House is a mess but I’m WFH and hoping work will be a bit quiet this week as people are still on holiday which gives me a chance to give it a quick blitz during the day. Just looking at the dining table alone is depressing Sad

Peridot1 · 24/08/2021 12:23

The thread is a bit quiet these days. Hope you are all off having fun!

I’m still sorting the airing cupboard. Did towels yesterday. Have now finished stripping beds from guests and last load is in washing machine. Not sure I’ll manage to get the bedding all sorted in the airing cupboard today but I might.

Need to pack as am off back to Dublin tomorrow for a week so concentrating on being up to date with all the washing so DH doesn’t have to do much.

And am planning an hour in the garden with my book this afternoon.

Chunkymonkey123 · 24/08/2021 18:23

The summer holidays have completely thrown me out, I’m almost looking forward to a bit of routine!

Today I tried a recipe in the instant pot (which I’ve barely used) in the hope that it will help on busy days. Also did a bit of gardening.

Sparklynewname · 24/08/2021 21:26

We got the door handle back on last night and DD has finished moving her stuff back in. There is A LOT.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 25/08/2021 11:29

I have been thinking a lot lately about having a bath instead of a shower. I’m definitely more of a bath girl (90mins and a good book) but since starting my new job, I haven’t had the time. I also haven’t had the space because the only bathroom in the house with a bath is also the cats’ bathroom and has three litter trays in it.

But today, I cleaned the bathroom (and the litter trays) and used my new bubble bath. I have cleaned the bathroom thoroughly and rewa4ed myself for it. 🙂

No work tomorrow (other than a 90 minute voluntary thing) so the plans are:
Grocery shopping
Clean and tidy my office
Clean up the coffee table

I’d like to do some sewing too but that would be over reaching.

Raaraaboonah · 26/08/2021 09:17

I'm struggling with the lack of routine, childcare and a mountain at work so really can't find the time or the energy to tackle anything else.

Also I think my 'projects' are a bit more like mundane life and just trying to keep on top of things so not sure I strictly qualify!
