One project a day- 2nd thread!

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

I've been working on the garden! Its quite a big job, but I guess I'll just work on it bit by bit. There's loads of gravel in a big, huge 'flower bed' and we want to get rid of it and have lawn instead. I have ignored it for three years.

BlueLobelia · 06/06/2021 12:02

Meal planning sounds great. I need to do that also. Although we are having duck breasts with gooseberry sauce today. (I have some left over gooseberry jam so think it might be able to be made into sauce.)

I bought some French lavender from Aldi and now need to find a palce for them! My very small garden is becoming jampacked!

Well, it was a semi productive day. Family issues and a lovely, lengthy chat with a neighbour about living in tiny houses derailed the afternoon.

—meal plan for week ahead— —(and check supermarket loyalty points)—

  • consider a recipe/menu card system to get organised with meal planning
  • clean out the fridge, or at least one shelf (I’ve been inspired by you, BlueLobelia)
—make a note of how much food the cats are allowed (one furball needs to go on a diet) and pin it up in the kitchen—
  • at least two loads of laundry only managed one
  • sort through the pile of clothes I had hidden out of sight because I didn’t want to wear them or donate them to charity
—change the sheets— —buy new fitted sheets as the old one has shrunk and torn—
DifficultBloodyWoman · 06/06/2021 12:42

Strike through fail!

Sparklynewname · 06/06/2021 23:57

Today we managed to get two walls lining papered and I chiselled the glue backing off two and a half skirting board lengths and got the fronts cleaned on two of them. I won’t be able to do more chiselling until Thursday as it’s too noisy to do in the evenings.
I’m starting to feel a little stressed about getting it done before flooring goes in next Monday 😬

mamakoukla · 07/06/2021 00:46

Today my sleep in… ended at just before 5 am. In fairness, I was in bed at 11 rather than midnight. So I opened the house up to cool it down, made a coffee and listened to the dawn chorus of birds while I read a book.

I did some planting with DH, and I tried to do some pruning. One looks good. I’m still undecided about what the other should look like 😂

Peridot1 · 07/06/2021 08:15

Hi everyone

You are all doing really well and I love reading what you are up to. Definitely gives me some inspiration.

I’m still at my Dad’s. I’ve done a few things here but not as much as I should so I’m back on lists. Bought some cleaning supplies yesterday.

Today’s jobs are to clean the inside of the shower and wash down the wall tiles in the bathroom. I did some the other day so need to finish.

Vacuum upstairs.
Wash bathroom floor.
Clean the kitchen.
Put tools into the small shed that my BIL built for Dad on Saturday.
Towel wash

Tomorrow
Book oven clean
Call car dealer/garage about service - it’s booked for Wednesday but needs a jumpstart or tow to get it there
Clean fridge
Wash kitchen and living area floor
Wash bedding

All of that is dependent on how my Dad is. He’s developed a blurry spot in one eye. Already has diabetes related damage in the other eye so he’s panicking. And it’s a bank holiday here today. Need to get him checked out but it may mean a trip to A&E.

Just found this thread. Love the idea of getting little bits done, feels like I get lots done at work but nothing personal!

Today I've made a list for shopping
Finally phoned a company back who I've been avoided for weeks.
Moved money to my savings account

Everything only took 10 minutes but I feel like I've accomplished something myself today.

Tonight I really want to tidy the house and put away DD toys. But that might be too much in 1 day!

Fnib · 07/06/2021 12:33

Hello everyone! You've all been busy! Best wishes for your dad @Peridot1
Today I made it to the charity bookshop with a bag of paperbacks. This afternoon is for hoovering and doing some batch cooking.
Yesterday I mowed the lawn.

Iceisnice · 07/06/2021 22:43

Hope all goes well with your dad @Peridot1.
Today I have helped dd complete maths homework, contacted and received a call from GP regarding umbilical hernia and I am being referred for an operation although it may take a year. I have batch cooked some mince, carrot, onion and tomato for a mince base for a few dinners this week, tastes absolutely divine if I say so myself. Also made a rice pudding...also tasted that... and some banana muffins for dd to take in lunchbox. I have also organised the growing into clothes and they are now all neat.

Sparklynewname · 07/06/2021 23:10

@Peridot1 hope your Dad’s eye is ok.
@Iceisnice, glad you have been referred for surgery. Hope the wait is not too brutal - we are not working at our previous full capacity as we still have to socially distance patients which means we can’t always use every bed space or every recovery bed space as day units are built with the purpose of getting as many people through as they can per theatre list. We are doing our best and tweaking as we go to try and increase throughput so fingers crossed for you.
We have finished the lining paper this evening and DH has filled the seams on 2 walls. Other seams and corners to be filled tomorrow evening so we can start painting on Wednesday evening. I shall go and get the paint tomorrow evening so we can just get straight to it.
Also managed to get DS out for a drive this evening.

Morning all, [waves]

Just checking in to say hi and hope everyone is okay.

[Waves back] @BlueLobelia Smile
@Iceisnice pleased you got your referral. I made mince things yesterday too!
@Sparklynewname it sounds like you have your hands full at home and at work Flowers

I'm just off to work, which is quite physical and I get tired now, especially when it's warm. So this afternoon I'm hoping to relax and enjoy my newly tidied garden, and watch the butterflies.
I might wash the kitchen floor too 🤔

@Sparklynewname thank you, Dr says wait is about a year but at least I am on the list and I am grateful that it is being taken seriously and for all the hard work that you guys do. I am taking the perspective that I have a year to get in tip top shape so that my recovery will be easier.
What colour are you going to paint the walls?
@Fnib thank you, progress! Monday is my prep for an 'easier week' day and mince is used often in this house!
@BlueLobelia Smile hope all is well with you.

BlueLobelia · 08/06/2021 10:24

sorry- i posted something about work that without context was possibly insensitive. Blush

anyway. Hope you all have a good day!!

Dinner is prepared - so now to the serious stuff! I have placed an online order I was dithering about. Washed and froze the lovely fresh rhubarb given to us. I have a couple more orders that need done with Father’s Day around the corner. And skim the chicken stock if the fat has solidified. Sometimes it takes more than an overnight in the fridge.

Hope your day goes well

Mogloveseggs · 08/06/2021 19:01

Well I didn't post the parcel yesterday but did it today
Need to pay the credit card that's today's job
Dh is on with the car service arrangements so that is something I don't need to sort thank goodness.
Just been for a walk up a big hill whilst Dd is at dancing I'm done in now!

Iceisnice · 08/06/2021 21:56

Today I bagged up some outgrown clothes to be taken to the charity shop. Going to wait until I have a boot load of unwanted things and take them in one hit.

Sparklynewname · 08/06/2021 23:26

Phew, another busy day at the office!
Went and bought the paint on the way home this evening- lavender and I hope it looks good but I will confess to getting the willies when she opened the lid to show the mix! Must be brave.
My flowers are looking so beautiful ☺️ the petunias which I had in their tray on the patio for about 6 weeks are just bouncing along now since they have been potted. So happy 😀

DownUdderer · 09/06/2021 05:21

I was on a roll with garden jobs, but then we had rain so I'm not going out in the garden today because it'll be muddy.

I have got some cash today, so the kids can take it in for a fundraiser on Friday. I never need cash, so it's an extra annoying job once or twice a term!
