One project a day- 2nd thread!

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

@Fnib last day of isolation was Monday, thankfully we only had to do 7 days as there were 3 days between the last contact and the person testing positive.

Our house went on the market today and we already have two viewings tomorrow Shock Shock . It's great obviously, but stressed is not the word. I actually paid MIL's cleaner to come round and do our house today so I could sort out the garden, no way I could do both. Hedges trimmed, lawn mowed and general tidy up. I'm not going to have the house how I wanted it for the viewings but hoping to prevent it being an actual embarrassment!

Mogloveseggs · 02/06/2021 17:45

Thanks for all the hamster well wishes.
Dh is sorting Ds bike for a bike ride tomorrow. I have found the bottom of the washing basket! And paid the phone bill.

Sparklynewname · 02/06/2021 21:10

Sanded down the walls in the dining room and applied more plaster to the hole.
Cleaned up a lot of dust but will do the rest of the dust tomorrow so it has time to settle.
I have an unfortunate tummy this evening and feel like I might actually be sick. Not fun!

DownUdderer · 03/06/2021 02:12

I'm not sure what I'll tackle today. I'm having a kind of nothing day. I've been stressed out, so maybe I'll just be ok not achieving anything today.

Iceisnice · 03/06/2021 07:10

Tackled some decluttering yesterday, had a weird pain in my stomach on Sunday afternoon, thought it was due to a bit of anxiety for covid jabs. Pain came back yesterday with a lump.... went walk in centre to be told I have an umbilical hernia.
Have go to post office and pet shop today and hoping to do some more decluttering although shifting anything heavy is not going to be happening any time soon. Hope everyone has a lovely productive day.

DownUdderer · 03/06/2021 12:38

@Iceisnice I've seen a white snickers today. I'm not sure if it's just an Australian thing.

Sparklynewname · 03/06/2021 17:53

We have taken off the last piece of skirting boards and the radiator. Filled all holes and cleaned up a round of dust.
I am currently scraping the paint off the kitchen door frame which is hideous and DH has gone out to buy lining paper and other bits n bobs.
My stomach is still really unsettled so I haven’t left the house today- I keep having a gurgle like drains rising from within which is coming out as a big wet burp. I’m so delightful.
Sorry to hear about your hernia @Iceisnice have you had surgery before in that site or has it popped up for no apparent reason?

Iceisnice · 03/06/2021 18:27

@DownUdderer sounds like Australia is ahead on white chocolate! Fingers crossed someone imports it soon, although I do have 2 stone to lose so maybe not too soon Grin.
@Sparklynewname thank you. Apparently it is Really common after pregnancy and I had 3 large babies, last one 11 weeks ago so that is a contributing factor too. K
Just got a small amount of pain at the moment but when it popped out yesterday it was so painful I couldn't breathe.

LlamaGiles · 03/06/2021 19:21

Managed to do a little bit in the garden today, just trimming and pruning.

Chunkymonkey123 · 03/06/2021 19:46

Today I cut back the plants in the front garden. I also went though my wardrobe and my DSs wardrobe and I’ve got two baskets of clothes to donate. I suspect they will sit in my spare room for a while though!!

SingToTheSky · 03/06/2021 20:41

I did clean the inside of the microwave today but the main project was to properly clean off the top of the big Kallax in the living room. So I did that and have put some specific things on there (whereas before it was “whatever games wouldn’t fit in there, plus a load of other random shit”). Also emptied three of the squares so baskets with my 3yo’s jigsaws and board/card games could go in there. Still got to sort a lot of the random stuff that was in there but it’s improving so much. Last few days I’ve got rid of loads from the unit.

Sparklynewname · 03/06/2021 21:42

@Iceisnice they’re fairly common and not too hard to repair. Sometimes they use mesh but they don’t always need to, if it’s a small one they can sometimes do them with thick nylon sutures. (My usual job is Scrub Nurse).
DH bought more scrapers. Kitchen door frame is ready to be painted when we paint all the woodwork- not sure if we will do it just yet or whether we will decorate the lounge and then go through and do ALL the woodwork.

Iceisnice · 04/06/2021 08:12

@Sparklynewname thank you, that is good to know.
They want me to try some exercises to strengthen stomach muscles. Bit nervous about that in case I cause more damage or rupture the hernia. No mention of any operation so am a little Hmm when the nhs website says that adult ones don't repair themselves....
Today's jobs are going to be trying to catch up on a few random household chores and entertaining dc.

TenCornMaidens · 04/06/2021 14:20

Today I have embarked on a brain dump in order to prepare bme better for the next year or so. I'm going through everything to see what I have to do, want to do, etc, so that I can corral it all into one place.

I'm thinking I might make a list of some of these 5 min projects to add to my list.

Sparklynewname · 04/06/2021 19:03

I have sent an important email, done two online training updates, been to the tip and been to B&Q to choose paint for the dining room as DH doesn’t want to paper it.
Ceiling and coving have been painted, ceiling light has been scrubbed and we will get the lining paper up hopefully at some point over the weekend.

mamakoukla · 04/06/2021 20:11

Odd task but I let myself sleep in. Been really tired since being vaccinated. I’m normally a wake up bright and bushy tailed sort of person, happy on 6-7 h. Struggling to wake up at 6:30-7:00. So this weekend is operation catch up on sleep and hopefully reset

BlueLobelia · 05/06/2021 08:00

Morning all. I hope you got a good sleep @mamakoukla

Today I am completing the planting out of vegetable seedlings. I am also cleaning up our ratty outdoor furniture so we can use them.

I have a new routine for cleaning the fridge. I really hate cleaning the fridge and get the vomits if food has gone off, so now I clean and clear a single shelf a day. Been doing this for a couple of weeks and it means that the entire fridge is clean every 5 days (and then starts again) and also has meant that I am keeping on top of what needs to be used up so less waste! Takes less then 5 minutes and I am feeling much happier and in control. (Plus again, the less food waste!).

It's sad, but this makes me happy. Very happy. :)

Have a good day everyone!

Today I tackled two garden jobs that I had wanted to get done. Tomorrow I'm going to wipe out a bucket and start using it for veg waste in the kitchen.

mamakoukla · 05/06/2021 12:06

So all best plans…. Wide awake at 6 am! Having a lovely coffee while the house still slumbers. Opened the windows to let the cool morning air in.

Great plan for fridge tidying @BlueLobelia. Hmmm that might be my task for today as I have neglected it a little. Generally tidy as I go along with the occasional do it all in one go.

Hope you’re all keeping well

BlueLobelia · 05/06/2021 14:30

Hello! I am sorry you did not manage more of a lie in @mamakoukla

A veg waste bucket sounds good @DownUdderer

I have just ordered a metal arch which I plan to put at the entrance to our garden and grow roses over it. I had a flimsy one I bought ages ago that just looks cheap and doesn't fit the bill. This one should be a very great deal nicer.

mamakoukla · 05/06/2021 14:42

Nowt to be sorry about but I must not try to do too much and be in bed at a sensible hour!

mamakoukla · 05/06/2021 19:49

I finally finished decorating the little wooden box I was painting! All craft items now tidied back into the cupboard :)

mathanxiety · 05/06/2021 20:09

Weekly fridge clear out.

Bought two potted herbs, need to repot at some point, but they're in biggish pots so it can wait a little while.

Gathered all my stashes of makeup and put the stuff I want to keep in a nice wooden box with a clasp. Put former containers in the thrift donation bag.

Sparklynewname · 05/06/2021 22:57

Had a last day out with family which was lovely and then came home with plans to get out into the garden. Weather went to turn to rain so I put it off until later and then at 8:00 it still hadn’t rained so I got into gear. I have cleared a full green bins worth of weeds from the flower beds and there is so much more to go. I will have to take a trip along to the waste centre on Thursday (my day off) as we are planning on wallpapering tomorrow- hopefully! DH has gone to the pub so hopefully he’s not too late- and lo and behold he has just walked through the door!

DifficultBloodyWoman · 06/06/2021 00:01

I need to meal plan, clean and do laundry today but that is such a generic list, I won’t get any of it done so…

  • meal plan for week ahead (and check supermarket loyalty points)
  • consider a recipe/menu card system to get organised with meal planning
  • clean out the fridge, or at least one shelf (I’ve been inspired by you, BlueLobelia)
  • make a note of how much food the cats are allowed (one furball needs to go on a diet) and pin it up in the kitchen
  • at least two loads of laundry
  • sort through the pile of clothes I had hidden out of sight because I didn’t want to wear them or donate them to charity
  • change the sheets
  • buy new fitted sheets as the old one has shrunk and torn
