One project a day- 2nd thread!

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

I've just had a white twice! Yum!!

I got my outside steps scrubbed, I managed two at a time. I'm so pleased they're all done now and looking clean.

I swept up the petals.

Tomorrow I'm not sure what I'll tackle.

mamakoukla · 31/05/2021 16:09

@Peridot1 sending warm wishes and glad to hear that you made it back home.

Iceisnice · 31/05/2021 17:26

Had my 1st covid jabs yesterday but seem to have got off lightly with a sore arm being the only side effect so far.... yesterday I managed to change energy supplier, find the place where we are planning on having dd birthday and get costs and put away a tonne of washing.
Tonight I am planning on painting the front garden fences and dismantling the swing in back garden that isn't played with anymore.

mamakoukla · 31/05/2021 18:48

Still a bit off from the vaccination, but the worst of chills, nausea seems over and my tummy was rumbling for lunch!

Today was project catch up on electronic tasks. I have renewed some official documentation online, online ordering for items that need to come in the mail, paid some bills and caught up on emails. All of the procrastination-prone tasks I put off because I know I can :) Thank you!

mamakoukla · 31/05/2021 18:51

@DownUdderer… curious, what is a white twice please? If it’s a typo please ignore this question; wondering if it’s reference to something regional or some slang I’m not familiar with…. or even some wonderful food that I am yet to discover!

Sparklynewname · 31/05/2021 22:44

This evening we have removed all of the skirting boards 😱 in the dining room. Tiling chap came round to measure up this morning and said it would give a better finish so off they came! Unfortunately so did a vast amount of plaster down to the brick on one area of wall. DH has managed to get some patch plaster this evening so has put the first binding coat on.
We also managed to get the beading off the double glazed window which has blown and have measured the glass so I can pop in and order a new unit tomorrow morning before we go out for the day. I’ve cleaned the beading bits off and we have left the side ones out to make it a quicker job to pop in the new unit.
If the first coat of plaster is dry in the morning then we’ll Chuck in another before we go out- if not, we won’t 😂

@mamakoukla White Twix!! It must have autocorrected on my phone!! It was really yum!

DifficultBloodyWoman · 01/06/2021 01:17

I’m not doing very well with keeping up with lists, projects and cleaning so far. Hopefully, today will be a more productive day.

Clean the bathroom
Send insurance form off
Defrost something for supper
Prep for job interview tomorrow

There are probably a few others things I should do but if get that list done, then I will consider it a win.

DownUdderer · 01/06/2021 03:21

I've picked up the Camelia petals for the day. I've ripped up two boxes to go in recycling. I've worked on a craft project. I've sorted a couple of emails.

I was gently puzzling over this and then decided it might be like a splice ice-cream which I enjoyed hugely when I went to Australia. Grin

I moved my patty pan squash seedings which are struggling into the sun and drowned them in water.

They are noticeably larger this morning!!!!!!

@DownUdderer I adore white twix too, I cannot eat milk or dark chocolate because I get migraines but thankfully white twix hits the spot! Have you tried white kit kat yet? I am hoping there will be a white chocolate snickers and Mars out soon... just throwing the idea out in the universe.....!

Just want to let you all know that I have won today! In particular with the bathroom that is so sparklingly, squeaky clean that you could eat in there. Nobody is allowed to use that bathroom ever again, especially DH. Anybody who wants a shower has to use the hose outside and apologise to the neighbours afterwards. 😁
DifficultBloodyWoman · 01/06/2021 09:19

Oh, and the defrosted dinner might be curry or might be sweet and sour chicken. Too hard to tell in its frozen state but I have the necessary rice and condiments for both so it doesn’t matter. Oh shit, actually, I don’t have chutney.

Oh, I was doing so well! 😢

Sparklynewname · 01/06/2021 10:52

I have ordered the window glass. It will be here in about a week 🎉

Iceisnice · 01/06/2021 15:11

Managed to paint the front fences with DH help but didn't dismantle the swing last night, however, I did catch up on all the shredding so that has cleared a nice space. Been shopping with the DC, picked up a few summer bits of clothing and also walked to the library and changed our books (about a 2 hour walk round trip). Tonight's plan (after children are in bed) is to dismantle swing, come up with a garden design/plan (needs a major overhaul - effectively starting from scratch) and if time/energy permits i will give the fridge its fortnightly clean. Hope you are all enjoying the lovely sunshine today 😎

Fnib · 01/06/2021 16:05

Well done everyone! @DifficultBloodyWoman your post made me laugh!
I feel like I've not done much but I did give away some bits I never use from a kitchen cupboard and it gave me space to put my liquidiser in with my plates. And that's freed up my dining room windowsill for a couple of plants and nothing else. So I'm pleased with that.
I have too many mugs and that annoys me. I need 6, max, but I keep being given them. Probably we have 10? Cluttered cupboards make me cross Blush
I've sorted out summer clothes too, and I don't need to buy anything to cope with a hot summer, so that's a relief.

LlamaGiles · 01/06/2021 16:14

Hi everyone, I had a nightmarish week as we had to self isolate due to a positive covid test at my daughter's nursery. Our house goes on the market tomorrow and having got it to a half decent state in time for the estate agent photos to be taken it's now an absolute tip again as I had practically no time for cleaning or tidying with a hyped 2 year old to entertain all day every day. Feel like I've taken three steps forward and two back! But nothing to be done except begin again, so I've started today with changing the bedding and doing a couple of extra laundry loads to wash delicates that have accumulated in the laundry basket.

DownUdderer · 02/06/2021 05:05

I've been and bought some gardening stuff from the DIY shop! That was nice. I'm going outside now to try and sort fertilizer for the hedge.

Xanadu7 · 02/06/2021 05:28

Hi guys, can I join you? I’m so disheartened at times by our house - we moved in two days before the first lockdown and it still needs so much doing to it and the gardens to make it homey; difficult when we are skint!
Today’s thing for garden - carefully trimming grass around hedge plants so they can get more water, takes longer than you think. For the house - clear out the kitchen-drawer-of-doom. Have a gentle day everyone.

Fnib · 02/06/2021 06:07

Oh @LlamaGiles how frustrating! Are you still in isolation?
DH is muttering about sorting out his underwear/sock drawer. Wonders will never cease!
Kitchen windows need cleaning again. And I'm going to measure spare room window for new curtains as current ones have really got to go.
I'm going to look in charity shop before buying new. Currently reading This One Wild And Precious Life, and the author points out how so many of us donate to charity shops yet don't shop in them. Guilty as charged Blush
They are going to be my first port of call from now on.

SingToTheSky · 02/06/2021 07:20

I’m the opposite - I buy in charity shops a lot but don’t often donate 🤣 I used to more often, but right now it’s such a faff to donate, especially without a car. So I tend to try and find other ways to pass stuff on - toddler clothes and board books to nursery (and I’m going to ask if they want a load of spare colouring stuff too), icollectclothes is great for general clothes donation. We donated a load of games and puzzles to a homeless shelter in lockdown 1 as DH knows the manager and he came to collect them.

I’m alone with my 3yo for much of the day today, so I’m not expecting to achieve much, but I did gather the rest of the games to sort, so I guess that’s my project today as I can do that when she’s watching tv. In lockdown 1 we moved the games I love upstairs (mainly to keep them safe from the youngest), but I have procrastinated since about sorting the rest.

Over the last couple of days I’ve decluttered a lot from the shelves - so many old notebooks and a ridiculous amount of loose papers to recycle. So it’s gradually getting a lot clearer, but I’m not going to spend time actually organising the books left as I do need to go all Marie Kondo and do a big declutter of books. I can see loads that will go, but I need to sort out a big box to put them in before I do a massive FB sale post.

SingToTheSky · 02/06/2021 07:22

Well, I say I shop in them a lot - not a vast amount really, I have just browsed a lot since non essential retail reopened and bought lots of picture books and puzzles/games for the youngest.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 02/06/2021 13:03

I aim to please, Fnib! 🤣🤣🤣

I have had such a busy day today, I didn’t have time to a to do list, a d certainly not any time for project work (much of which is still outstanding from the weekend). However....

I ironed clothes (that really is quite an event)
I took DH to work
I went to work
I had a job interview
I got a job offer (subject to qualification equivilancy) Woo hoo!
I went home
I cleaned the litter tray
I did an hour of volunteer work
I bought birthday presents for DH
I met with one of my job referees
I called the other referee
I bought chutney (and other stuff)
I collected DH from work
I cooked (does microwaving count?) dinner (it was curry, if anyone was wondering)
I took DH to a meeting
I did some work admin and personal admin
I collected DH from his meeting

I am now cuddling the cats, watching TV and mumsnetting. That is what we call multitasking.

Still need to:

pack a suitcase for a couple of nights away (DH’s birthday)
Choose clothes for work tomorrow
Clean the kitchen
Sign up to an online course I need to do for work

I’ve done so much today but it hasn’t included laundry. I ‘m now wondering if I have any clean underwear. By ‘wondering’, I mean I am pretty sure I don’t. Definitely need to add laundry to the list.

BlueLobelia · 02/06/2021 15:51

Not much to report here. Washed all the dog blankets, which I try and do every couple of weeks, so a normal project.
