What really boring crap does your dh try to talk to you about?

Yesterday DH tried to talk to me about stationary gas engines. He seemed suprised when l wasn’t interested.

My friend’s bf used to talk to her about overhead haulage systems.

OP posts:

Animal TV shows and associated instagram accounts
Reminds me that I definitely probably spend a bit too long showing my DP funny/'interesting' things on Instagram/Twitter.

(But did anyone else see that video of the hamster squeezing under a door? Shock)

And then we are surprised when we have a gender pay gap and fewer females in stem subjects

Arse about tit there. It is because girls aren’t exposed to or encouraged in STEM that women may well find those topics dull.

I work in a male dominated industry in a male dominated job which, if you squint a bit, has a maths basis. I still find a whole lot of maths that DH talks about inanely dull.

As for yet another science documentary he’s seen, no thanks. Not at all interested.

My exes only topics of conversation were football, or his work. Boring!!! My partner talks about his work, and although I don't know what he's talking about it is interesting.

Football. Football on the TV, football matches he has been to, football matches he wants to go to, how good he is at football, football kits, football players. On and on and on ....
I've coped with that in the past with saying, with a befuddled expression, 'Which ones do you support again? Is it the red ones, or the ones with the particularly silly haircuts?'

Referring to football kit as 'your costume' and to half-time as 'the interval' is also guaranteed to irritate someone into not talking to me about football ever again. Grin

Politics. Who is running for what and how useless they are.
The American election was a particular delight. We are not American and i have zero interest. I did try telling him i don't care but no he would watch the news in the kitchen and then come in the lounge to tell me every detail, the fact i was watching a different programme should have given him a clue i wasn't interested.

Well, or because whoever is banging on about a STEM topic is a boring bastard droning on boringly. I have a doctorate and if someone is boring me when talking about my specialism, it's not down to my ignorance, it's because they are the Eng Lit equivalent of Fr 'Boring' Stone in Fr Ted.
Lovingspring · 19/05/2021 17:28

The stockmarket.

Frlrlrubert · 19/05/2021 17:56

His Tesla
The supercharger infrastructure
Coding
Engines
The finer points of motorbike engines
Why Lewis Hamilton is the greatest F1 driver ever
Why Rossi is the greatest motorbike rider ever.

I mean, I'm a science teacher and a bit of a geek, and I'm usually up for a good chat about the differences in aero packages or the merits of different drivers, but he's autistic so can't 'read' when I'm not interested and will just bang on forever like he's giving me a TED talk (I do love him really)

Cushionsnotpillows · 19/05/2021 18:02

Ooh PP we should get our DH's in a room and let them shout at each other - mine bangs on constantly about how Hamilton isn't the greatest driver ever, he's just had the advantage of a better car blah blah (secretly I agree, Schumacher at his best in matching cars would be blown Hamilton out the water Wink).

He also likes to let me know his step count and when he's done his target. Well done dear, go do another 5k why not leave me in peace

His oscilloscope Hmm But it makes him happy, so I just nod and smile...

@SimonJT, just one question: why??? Why the thought experiment in sealing yourselves in??! :)

SockQueen · 19/05/2021 18:18

Whichever computer game he's currently wasting his time on.
Warhammer 40K.
Banking/finance/economics.

Well ADHD mainly, but I have eight plants in our bedroom, if we are going to sleep with the windows shut move the plants out of the bedroom at night time so the CO2 levels in the room don’t increase. So then that became slow suffocation/equillibrium.
Chesneyhawkes1 · 19/05/2021 18:23

Mine is either on his PS5 or whats app to his friends. He's got naff all to say.

I'm the one with loads of boring crap to talk about and no one to tell it to 😂

Amdone123 · 19/05/2021 18:35

Work. How much he loves it. How great the new rota system is. He even went to show me said rota the other day but I can only surmise my deathly stare put him off.
Bath mats. He has a slight obsession. He buys them all the time. I don't care. And, no, I do not want to feel it.

Cruddles · 19/05/2021 18:44

I'm the DH and i rarely talk to my DW about work or hobbies. She then gets asked by her friends and colleagues what i do for work and she can't answer, so she says I'm like Bing from friends who has the job of mystery.

I will ask her feedback on my homebrew but i won't go into details of how it was made.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 19/05/2021 18:54

Currently, in no particular order, but on rotation throughout the day:

boilers
power washers
motor homes
engine oil

There may be other topics but after the above my brain cells are at saturation point, so anything else just slides over my head.

I'm not sure whether to blame lockdown or retirement or both.

CobraKaiRocks · 19/05/2021 18:54

Golf
Golf courses
Fishing
Fishing rods
Fishing programs

Actually wants to talk to me about the merits of golf bags different brands etc

Zero interest whatsoever.

I suppose it’s like me wittering on to him about architecture or amazing houses that Ive seen in programs etc.

kittycat863 · 19/05/2021 18:59

Cycling...wattage and other stats that I don't give a shit about.

MintyMabel · 19/05/2021 19:09

Definitely that too!

PineappleCakes · 19/05/2021 19:17

@SimonJT ahhh, ok. We have 4 small plants in our bedroom but I hope the drafty Victorian windows will keep us alive :)

Signoramarella · 19/05/2021 19:27
