What really boring crap does your dh try to talk to you about?

Yesterday DH tried to talk to me about stationary gas engines. He seemed suprised when l wasn’t interested.

My friend’s bf used to talk to her about overhead haulage systems.

Waterproof materials Confused

ButtercupSquash · 19/05/2021 12:26

Planning law, pensions, weather systems, thermodynamics, the calculation of probability.
The difficulty is he will suddenly stop and ask if I understand, which is either patronising (of course I know what bloody anthracite is) or just adds another layer of boring explanation.
Good thread!

Caramel81 · 19/05/2021 12:26

Coding
I just zone out and nod along.

FizzyPink · 19/05/2021 12:27

Mine doesn’t really have many boring interests but when he likes something he will tell you many many times. He’s also very easily pleased and quite enthusiastic about everything so it can get tiresome.

He really likes Method cleaning products but I bought a cheaper Dettol spray with lemon this week. After initially being a bit put out, he has now told me at least 5 times how impressed with it he is and what a lovely lemony smell it has Hmm

It’s the same if we go to a new restaurant. He’ll repeat multiple times what a lovely time he’s having and how good everything is. And then tell everyone he meets for the next week that they must go.

It could be worse I guess.

MolotovMocktail · 19/05/2021 12:28

Oh god just everything. We have basically no interests in common, I keep mine to myself because I know he’s not interested. He, on the other hand, launches into daily monologues about all this stuff I don’t give a crap about, usually late at night when I’m desperate to go to sleep. I love him but he’s so boring sometimes.

SpindleWhorl · 19/05/2021 12:29

Oh jesus, yes, paint.

Types of fucking paint. Yes, I fucking know there are different types of paint. I just don't want to talk about them.

MrsPsmalls · 19/05/2021 12:34

Booking rehearsal studios and getting gigs :-(

MonicaGellerBing · 19/05/2021 12:35

PlayStation

Daisychainsandlaughs · 19/05/2021 12:37

Golf, golf balls, golf clubs, golf bags, golf trollies, golf swings etc etc. Lockdown involved practising his swings on the back garden and endless YouTube videos.

WingingIt101 · 19/05/2021 12:38

The fucking electric meter.

To be fair he is being very sensible but my god does it make me Fantasise about being hit by a bus.
We recently moved to a much bigger house which is fully electric (heating and everything, no gas pipes to the village and no oil set up either).
He is right it is costly and he wanted to understand where we were using more and what charges we were paying.

So every fucking day for a month he went to the meter at the same time to take a reading and then do all these calculations before presenting the daily figures and a brief comparison when necessary.
I should be grateful as it was about saving us money but my god I’d have paid every last penny of my salary not to listen.

He’s normally a very sociable and interesting man. I have no idea what happened during that hideous month.

UserAtRandom · 19/05/2021 12:40

What he's doing at work.
Which seems to mostly involve setting up, moving and deleting Sharepoint sites how many Sharepoint sites does one company need

Although yesterday he announced he is now responsible for setting up MS forms as well.

notalwaysalondoner · 19/05/2021 12:40

His work. I don’t mind the odd chat here and there but he definitely uses me to offload especially when he’s stressed, but it’s hard for me to pay attention when it’s so dull and I don’t know anyone he’s talking about…

Justgivemesomepeace · 19/05/2021 12:47

Various computer codes and languages and jargon to do with his job, electronic design engineer. Ive no idea what hes going on about. For about 6 months his sole topic of conversation seemed to be IR35 and tax. This week its pensions. Golf is another of his things and i have to listen to tales about blokes af the golf club IVe never heard of and how he did on the back 9. Its a right laugh in my house.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 19/05/2021 12:50

Pop vinyls. He collects them so I have a daily lecture on the new ones coming out, the ones he has ordered, the ones that have gained in value or not worth anything any more Hmm

towers14 · 19/05/2021 12:51

The flattening of Syria being ignored by the press, I've had to tell him " I'm not fucking interested". No idea why he's so invested in it. Also any current project he's working on.

Oh my life - same here!

There was a knock on the door the other day and it was two more of the fuckers! He also keeps some of the empty boxes of the more 'exclusive ones'. Drives me batty!

Waitwhat23 · 19/05/2021 12:55

Miles per gallon. So, so boring.

Lweji · 19/05/2021 12:55

About most things he buys online. Mostly computer stuff or plant related.
It's a good thing we share a lot of interests and work in related fields. Grin

Also, memories from when he was young. He will look at the landscape from the car and describe how it has changed. Well, it would be odd if it hadn't. I don't need to know there are more buildings now.

In his case, though, is more how often he repeats the same stories and in detail, without even asking or remembering if he's already told me. I have an excellent memory for most things and do remember not only most of the stories as many of the details too.

InpatientGardener · 19/05/2021 12:56

Warhammer 😴

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/05/2021 12:56

It took DH a few years to work out I didn't have in an interest in Account Auditing and other parts of HR.
I used to ask when my insomnia was bad...Grin

Staywithmemyblood · 19/05/2021 12:58

DH’s favourite topics:

Complaining about how DD cannot pick wet towels off the bathroom floor but can manage to get fake tan on every bathroom surface 😬

We should really do something about our pension plans........ 😴

Commentary whilst he is driving about how shit other drivers are 🙉

I do love him, but jeezo it gets very tiring at times! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Bambam2019 · 19/05/2021 13:00

Coding usually, which is what he does for his job. I try to show an interest but.....I mean I don’t understand a word of what he’s saying for a start.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/05/2021 13:00

His specific branch of engineering. Plus since he's been WFH I end up proofreading is documents as dyslexia was not a well known thing in his school days.

DIY You can have too much detail. Especially if it's musing over the details at some point in the future where it will all be long forgotten.

Never ever get stuck between DH and his brothers during a long meal or you'll end up with 3 hours of going on about heat pumps above your head, and as much of the family is teatotal there's rarely wine avaliable in order to help.

It's culturally normal in his family to be an engineering bore.
DS has ASD and a very detailed interest in the military and nuclear war. It's been a bloody long year...

Onlinedilema · 19/05/2021 13:03

Bands. Who used to play in which band. Who they play with now. Who wrote the sons for them. Who each band member is married to, who they used to be married to. Which band members have played with which other bands. Who wrote the bass line for this or that song, who wrote the guitar rift.
Do I know who wrote this and that song?
When I tell him I have no idea what he is talking about he will move onto actors and films. Do I know who played x character in Y film and who directed it?
No I don’t and also I don’t bloody care!!!
I do adore him, but he knows I’m not interested in films at all.

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 19/05/2021 13:07

Models. He paints them and is incredibly talented but dear god I’ve had years of it. Also space I try so hard but I just can’t!

That and handmaid’s tale he’s loving it and keeps insisting how it could happen. We had a 45 minute discussion about what we would do in world war three in which he told me he would ‘die for democracy’ so at least I chose a man with morals.

Then again he glazes over with many topics of mine 😂 I can see him do it and it makes me go on even longer.
