What really boring crap does your dh try to talk to you about?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/05/2021 11:51

Yesterday DH tried to talk to me about stationary gas engines. He seemed suprised when l wasn’t interested.

My friend’s bf used to talk to her about overhead haulage systems.

OP posts:
clpsmum · 19/05/2021 16:17

Toning but I suspect he could give lots of answers about me!

clpsmum · 19/05/2021 16:17

Nothing not toning ffs

52andblue · 19/05/2021 16:17

@ladysunshine

People I've never met Places I've never been Programs I've never watched Conspiracy theories, Sport, Cars.

Stories (usually made up) that he's told me many times, that become increasingly exaggerated.

Are you now married to my ExH???

Add in trainspotting and dodgy 1970's 'comedy' shows and you might be

crunchiebabe · 19/05/2021 16:20

I was " talked at" about the beauty , habits , lifestyle etc of bloody emperor penguins for the full duration of the 15 years I was married to the ex ....

NightoftheLivingBread · 19/05/2021 16:22

@FizzyPink

Mine doesn’t really have many boring interests but when he likes something he will tell you many many times. He’s also very easily pleased and quite enthusiastic about everything so it can get tiresome.

He really likes Method cleaning products but I bought a cheaper Dettol spray with lemon this week. After initially being a bit put out, he has now told me at least 5 times how impressed with it he is and what a lovely lemony smell it has Hmm

It’s the same if we go to a new restaurant. He’ll repeat multiple times what a lovely time he’s having and how good everything is. And then tell everyone he meets for the next week that they must go.

It could be worse I guess.

Mine does this!😂😂 Drives me fucking mad 😫😆
NightoftheLivingBread · 19/05/2021 16:24

Actually, the worst bit about it is that I’ve started to find myself doing the same thing too now 🤦‍♀️ Hmm😭

waltzingparrot · 19/05/2021 16:25

The inner workings of a car zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

FawnDrench · 19/05/2021 16:26

The virtues and inner workings of his new lawn mower.
Cost benefit analysis, input versus output and the gloriously immense power ratios of sundry woodworking tools.

52andblue · 19/05/2021 16:29

@SpindleWhorl

And then we are surprised when we have a gender pay gap and fewer females in stem subjects.

I'm perfectly aware of and happily interested in STEM subjects, thank you very much. For example, I recently developed an interest in the origins of the 1918-19 pandemic and its geopolitical context.

I simply wouldn't want to be regaled about it repeatedly by someone else with whom I am in enforced proximity in a manner that suggests either (a) that they think I require educating on the matter by them, or (b) that they are involved in a bizarre method acting experiment.

YES!!! For me, it is not so much the topics, but the style of comms. For eg, my Ds, 17, has ASD and my God, can he drone on, for hours and hours, about some arcane stuff (Canadian historic military epaulettes is a current obsession). But HE is fascinated and truely wants me to be too and therefore I find it equally mindnumbing (after a while) but endearing too. To have someone 'mansplain' something (anything, even my fave topic) is what puts me off, not the content. Which is handy as Dd is also ASD and could talk for weeks at a time about very minor parts of Minecraft (I hate minecraft, I just fall down a hole and can't get out again. I see it is clever and they love it but...)
FiveGs · 19/05/2021 16:29

Motorbikes, motorbike engines, motorbike models, famous motorbikes and motorcyclists, including off road bikes. Cars, car engines, car models, famous cars and drivers be they: F1, off road, rally cars, touring cars etc etc..

Also:

Guns, rifles, weaponry;
Air conditioning units;
Engines and aaaaallllll the different types there are

WWI, WWII, Vietnam War, Falklands War, Bosnian war, Gulf War (all incarnations) just war in general really, particularly tanks and armoured vehicles (back to cars and engines again aren't we).

Good grief, even with an interest in history, I'm not sure which subject is the most tedious after 15 years together, I should be an expert from hearing it over and over but I'm not.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 19/05/2021 16:30

Horse trading.

Dogmum40 · 19/05/2021 16:31

If you think your partners are bad talking about machinery, mechanics and sport try having a husband that writes IT databases for a living! Bores the crap out of me ( and family and friends he tries to engage with ) we used to be so fun and exciting! He now gets excited over an update, no one warned me marriage and 40s would be so thrilling! Every feckin day we have to talk about his work shite every feckin day....

user1498572889 · 19/05/2021 16:45

Before my husband retired we had to have a daily debrief on every single job he had been out to that day. Wouldn’t have been so bad if I hadn’t just done a 9 hour day with two and a half hours travelling. The last thing I wanted to talk about was his 5 hr day.

IsAnybodyListening · 19/05/2021 16:48

Mine is brilliant at making me zone out. In no particular order:

His Warhammer Audio book
How he is progressing with his Spanish (involves saying random spanish words at me)
The filter in the pond
The algae in the pond
The fucking fish in the pond
The different shapes of his bonsai trees

He is also a bit of a spoony fucker, as such there has been a lot of talk about non-stick pans at the moment-except it's me that mainly cooks so this insistence they should all be non-stick is winding me up..

Livpool · 19/05/2021 16:53

Football Manager
Snooker

To be fair to him I talk about skincare and make up 🤷🏼‍♀️

Alexapissoff · 19/05/2021 16:54

Computers. And all the bits that go in them.

Fucking endlessly. With YouTube videos of other people putting bits into computers and oh Jesus Christ, I just don’t care.

SimonJT · 19/05/2021 16:55

Oh god if I asked mine what I drone on about his list would be huge, but the top ones are probably

Rugby (although he now actually gets rugby and can follow a game really well)
String theory
Animal TV shows and associated instagram accounts
Maths relating to real life, like last week I worked out how long it would take for us to die if I completely sealed the flat, so air couldn’t get in/out and if I removed all of the plants. I also worked out how many plants would be needed so we wouldn’t die.

When I can tell he’s bored I carry on, but I carry on in Urdu, that means I can finish what I’m saying but because he doesn’t understand Urdu he can walk off/ignore me without feeling guilty (as he does if I carry on in English).

adeleh · 19/05/2021 16:57

When the neighbours park their car outside and whether it means one or both of them are away.
He gives v long synopses of films and books. I love films and books, so am interested for a while, but not always for the 40 minute lecture.

On a side note we need to up our game in lots of academic areas - not just STEM, but also, for example, History and languages. It isn't true that you need STEM for a good job; it can certainly help, but you can get an excellent job with a good Humanities degree as well. We do need to maintain some balance - STEM is not going to suit everyone. As you were.

SpindleWhorl · 19/05/2021 17:00

I also worked out how many plants would be needed so we wouldn’t die.

What, ever?

Chasanddive · 19/05/2021 17:02

Cycling and work

SimonJT · 19/05/2021 17:03

@SpindleWhorl

I also worked out how many plants would be needed so we wouldn’t die.

What, ever?

Yes, assuming we had some sort of food delivery system etc that could be delivered in a way that didn’t allow any gas to enter/exit the flat.
JumpLeadsForTwo · 19/05/2021 17:03

Flight radar- where the airplane above us has come from, where it is going, how long it will take. What the weather is like there. He particularly loved guessing before he looks it up Hmm

user1471538283 · 19/05/2021 17:08

Football. Football on the TV, football matches he has been to, football matches he wants to go to, how good he is at football, football kits, football players. On and on and on ....
