I'm hoping to get "out there" if lockdown ends to hope to meet a new man . I'm not keen to try OLD and have been reading self help books about meeting men anywhere if you are open to it. in the past I only ever met men in bars or via friends and parties and have never been approached in the street etc. just wondered how many people have met someone in an unxepected way, when they werent looking?

OP posts:
LysistrataVickers · 18/05/2021 20:43

Facebook via Zoosk 🤦🏻‍♀️ he sent me a slightly cheesy message about how he liked my profile picture and went on to describe himself.

I was OLD with match at the time and my year long relationship had recently ended because ex was going to Australia for 3
Months (and wanted to shag about without a guilty conscience) which suited me because I was going to end it anyway. Best thing was he wanted to get back with me when he got back from Aus but I was with now DH by then!

So I met up with now DH not expecting much but thought what the hell and 11 years later we are married with two kids!

LysistrataVickers · 18/05/2021 20:45

My colleague met her husband in X-ray. She was working in radiology and he came in for an X-ray and they've been married now for 20 odd years so it must happen in real life bit I find OLD sometimes does a bit of weeding for you IYKWIM.

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 18/05/2021 20:46

Sounds much worse than it is but he was my ex dh friend Blush
It wasn't a friend we socialised with as a couple but I always thought he was easy on the eye and we got together after my marriage broke down.
10 years and counting.....

At the pub!

I've met serious partners

  • via Time Out London in my 20s
  • via a small niche online site but at an angle - a friend of mine met him on there and then brought him to a dinner where 6 of us each brought a bloke
  • via OurTime [yeuch] a dating site for the over 50s.

I'd actually agree that Hinge is a good bet. I didn't feel attractive enough though I did meet one nice guy on there.

RubyFakeLips · 18/05/2021 20:51

He moved in next door (both were 17) and bided his time about 7 years while I had other relationships and a baby before making his move. Wish he'd done it sooner!

Not sure I believe in the thing of meeting men anywhere. I tend to attract men on transport (fuck knows why), every date I went on from one of these meetings was awful. Truly the worst dates of my life. Before I got together with DH I resolved no more dates with randoms.

HollyHardcastle · 18/05/2021 20:53

OLD.
Together 9 years, married 6 - SO glad I stuck at it as I hated OLD but figured if I played the numbers game (chatted to hundreds of people and went on dozens of dates) I was bound to meet someone compatible and I absolutely struck gold.

I'm also in an am dram society and many of my friends have met their partners that way.

i was the only female soldier on exercise. The only toilet was in the gym. The sgt major cleared the gym saying -“ out the showers , Bora needs a wee! “ Very wet disgruntled squaddie wrapped in a towel moaned about it and continued moaning about it all night in the bar. We were married for 33 wonderful years - told this story at his funeral.

Friend met her hubby at a singles night. Speed dating is fun, I really recommend it to anyone disspirited with OLD.

Crazycatlady202020 · 18/05/2021 21:15

Tinder as well. Been together 3.5 years now Grin

OopsUp · 18/05/2021 21:15

On a FB page. Couple of years ago.

Esssa · 18/05/2021 21:21

OLD POF Together 4 years, living together 2 years, married for just over a week!

PurBal · 18/05/2021 21:29

Work, we didn't work together but we were both working when we met.

lastqueenofscotland · 18/05/2021 21:32

Sort of work sort of tinder
We had been working for the same client but different companies and I had sent some pretty shitty emails... the company I worked for was on my profile and he messaged something along the lines of “I think we had a big falling out 6 months ago... fancy clearing the air?”

The rest is history!

We worked at the same place for 6 months without crossing paths and met in a pub!

SavannahLands · 18/05/2021 21:37

He came to do a repair job at the Place where l was working, that was the first time l had seen him. He left afterwards, and it was a few weeks later that he came across and spoke to me at a Halloween Party in a local Pub. It was a complete surprise when l discovered that he was my Cousin’s Boss at work, and knew such a lot about me and my life already!

Summertime21 · 18/05/2021 21:39

In the pub he was a friend of a friend

KineticSand · 18/05/2021 21:40

Tinder in 2015 for current DP.

Significant relationships before that, I met the blokes through friends, on post grad course, at a festival, at work.

If I was single again I would use OLD if serious about finding someone.

Good luck OP!

CarnationCat · 18/05/2021 21:42

Don't have a partner now. Met my previous partner on Tinder and wouldn't recommend it (him) Grin I have a few friends who have met partners on Tinder they are very happy with though.

Other ways people I know met their partners:
Work
Hobbies like sailing and the gym
The pub/club
Dog walking! Maybe get a dog? Wink
Instagram

Ughmaybenot · 18/05/2021 21:42

My colleague was/is his friends girlfriend, and she just ‘saw’ it so set us up. She wasn’t wrong, together 5 years now with baby on the way 🤷🏼‍♀️
Of my friends and sisters tho, tinder, in a club, through work, at school are the most common ones.

Lb1204 · 18/05/2021 21:46

Bumble...I think you'll be really downsizing your net without OLD OP, the posters who met offline seem to have been with their DPs for years
