@bloodywhitecat congratulations on your nuptials!!! I hope you had a wonderful day filled with joy, happiness and love!

@MerryGoRoundBrain exciting!!! We bought our first house in October, it's a white knuckle process at times isn't it?

MerryGoRoundBrain · 23/05/2021 19:14

@Notthissticky it really is! The market is just insane right now. We’ve seen several properties that we just weren’t moving fast enough to secure. Fingers crossed it all goes ok now.

Silkiecats · 23/05/2021 19:31

Silkiecat keeps playing DHs piano, keep hearing notes.

Spudlet · 23/05/2021 19:42

I’ve just lit the fire. It’s nearly June Confused

In positive news however, I didn’t actually put my own feet at risk when I was splitting the firewood up, so progress 👍 I don’t know, in movies the hunky men make it look so easy, just splitting a log with every swing... I think they must have some minion pre-splitting them then sticking them together with pritt-stick so they just fall apart when you tap them Grin

Rode my horse in the rain (he was very good though, which is an improvement as he's been in a right strop for the past few days). Walked the dog in the rain. Now watching other people do althletics in the rain on the TV. Someone is holding an umbrella over a pole vaulter.

I read this as "rode my horse on(to) the train" and for a split second wondered if you can take horses on trains in the same way you can take bikes on... I've been dealing with an overtired toddler on 5 hours sleep for the past two days in my defense!

I've washed my new klean kanteen ready to be used tomorrow. Not sure what for though, as nowhere lets you use your own cup ATM and I like treating myself to takeaway coffee...

I've completed the first step of the process to book a pre-departure COVID test for my trip to the continent next week (Amber country, going to introduce DS2 to my parents. I've waited long enough, he's got his first tooth, I want to go before he's walkingHmm)

MissConductUS · 23/05/2021 21:46

@MerryGoRoundBrain, well done on the house! Not everything here needs to be dull. This is a new build, correct? Are you first-time buyers?

Thanks to all for the cooker/stove terminology explanation.

Another record breaking hot day here, with temps hitting 34. DS mowed the lawn this morning while it was still fairly cool out. I did some cleaning. DH normally does a lot of the hoovering on the weekends, so DS and I have taken that over.

My nephew and his wife have just had a baby boy, their second. The first boy is two years old, so my brother and SIL have gone up to help. They live in the Boston area, so it's about a four hour drive.

We're having filet steak on the grill and leftover mac & cheese for dinner. The filet steak is a treat. Meat prices are up a lot here in the last six months. We buy the whole tenderloin, then trim and cut it ourselves, so that helps keep the price down.

I'm looking for my next British TV binge. I've started watching the pilot for New Tricks, but so far it's not lighting a fire for me. I'm thinking about getting Britbox. I can add it to my Amazon Prime Video account for $7 per month, which seems reasonable. But some shows, like Motherland, aren't on it. It's a puzzle.

we are planning DS3's "leaving party" on Sat.
he doesn't know but we'll be giving him & mates party bags filled with silly stuff - I can't wait to see the reaction of a bunch of 16-year-olds receiving bubble blowers and "I've been brave" stickers etc🤣🤣

Frownette · 23/05/2021 22:00

silkie the offer of a mouse is quite enticing. Can it twirl its whiskers? Any spiders going spare?

MerryGoRoundBrain · 23/05/2021 22:06

@MissConductUS thank you Grin yes, a glorious new build. No, not first time buyers but because of the stupid “offers over” system in Scotland, we just got fed up with being constantly outbid (despite offering at least 10-15% over the price). Also, I’m very jealous of your new baby in the family. I would love to have a squishy nephew or niece, just for cuddles and handing them back later Wink

cheeseychovolate · 23/05/2021 22:07

Hi. I managed to wash, dry and put away a weeks worth of school uniform today!

Spudlet · 23/05/2021 22:08

@Notthissticky I used to work for an equine charity and we were once contacted about someone taking a small pony on a train... I don’t think we ever got to the bottom of it. The pony looked quite happy to be fair so not sure it was a welfare issue - not sure about its fellow passengers though Grin

Never mind finding a cure for COVID, how on God's green earth did you manage that???

@Spudlet I can almost imagine it technically being allowed, as it probably wasn't expressly forbidden!

Manydaysgoby · 23/05/2021 22:27

Started painting our grandchild’s nursery today, a mural. The most enjoyable thing I’ve done for quite some time.

MissConductUS · 23/05/2021 23:20

Welcome, @Manydaysgoby, and thanks for your nursery news. Is this nursery at your or your DC's home? I am far enough away from my new great nephew's home to not have to prepare anything.

I didn't expect all of this activity since my last post. I'd say we have a bunch of night owls here tonight.

Dboycat found a shady spot on the deck to enjoy the fresh air despite the heat. He came inside when DS lit the charcoal grill as he hates the smoke.

I mislaid my phone for a few hours. I have no idea what to do with it as my contract is at an end. So keep paying extortionate rates and have shiny new phone, or go to SIM only?

What would the silkies say?

Frownette · 24/05/2021 00:38

I'm grubby again, I saw a photo of me in the wind yesterday and decided (concurred) lack of conditioner was not the best policy. Hair was obscuring my face and looked decidedly lacking in lustre. I may even post a pic

Silkiecats · 24/05/2021 00:45

Can't really help with phones Frownette as I just used to use the landline until wabbit cut us off by eating the phone cable. Now I just borrow DHs when I need it.

Mouse 🐁 I can help with, we just had one left and dh was going to rehome him in the green bin but dh let him out into the garden so I expect Rodrigo is back by now. Not sure if he can twiddle his whiskers but he can eat cheddar cheese standing on his back paws and nibbling it with his two front paws just like a cartoon mouse. He can jump about 20cms, however, when stuffed with cheese he often misses and jumps then falls down about 20 times before reaching his target. He was just sticking his bottom out yesterday and tale and it is getting somewhat large. But he can shrink suddenly to about a third his size.

No spiders at the moment but about 100 singing birds outside, there's one who seems to sing all night long, I think he would make an excellent gift. They can sing well apart from the magpie. Better than the cat can play the 🎹 though once she made a tune tonight so she is progressing.

I was watching Motherland. The Guernsey Potato Peel Society is good if you can get that.

Frownette · 24/05/2021 00:47

Something went severely wrong in this pic; I was trying to catch up with friend from 6th form and took a pic but wind blew in my face.

I'd never make it on instagram, would I? I don't dye my hair or use conditioner nor able to control the wind. I'm sure I'm going wrong somewhere.

Silkiecats · 24/05/2021 00:56

My hair sometimes goes like that too, I call that my Dougal from the Magic Roundabout look.

Frownette · 24/05/2021 00:56

I can't believe I posted that. I'll log out for a week at the utter shame and put some conditioner on. Stop wind, stop.

Silkiecats · 24/05/2021 01:14

Its fine. You can even go on Instagram i looked it up and posting windy hair is a thing but you need a caption.

And I just got a spider for you.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/05/2021 01:14

@frownette - Your hair is perfect, you just can't see it because of the wind. So it's the weather that is to blame.

I finsished work for today.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 24/05/2021 01:32

Our garage is full of puffballs of dandelion seeds and pollen. We're trying to decide whether to vacuum them or use a leafblower to get rid of them.

I did lots of gardening until I could hardly breathe due to pollen and dust, then had a shower and have hidden indoors since.

DH put the screens and a/c units in the windows.

It feels like summer suddenly arrived.
