Snobbiest places in the UK?

Following from similar threads about overrated and underrated places in the UK... where are the snobbiest places in the UK?

From the places I've been, I'd say Harrogate, Oxford, and the rest of the Cotswolds.

OP posts:

I agree with Harrogate. I was once in joules and the shop assistant looked me up and down askance. I was shocked. My clothes were alright, and it was only joules, it wasn't versace. This has never ever happened to me in any other shop in any other town or city. Even in shops which do sell Versace.

3scape · 17/05/2021 18:52

I know some people in Castor, near Peterborough. There's a bit of a snobbish element. I shall reserve judgment as I've only been to a village fair to gauge this though. If I get work there I'll probably make my mind up.

18:52Missdotty I get side eye in Joules all over. I thi k it's a recruitment philosophy Grin

@HeronLanyon

I need to say Crouch End. I know a lot on mn will disagree. I know it well and have for decades. Cant bear the place - at least muswell hill is a bit more obvious about it.
Is Muswell Hill like a Tory voting area? I heard its very wealthy
QualityRoads · 17/05/2021 18:56

I've not even visited most of the places on here so I'm voting for Bolton. It gets more news coverage than the rest of the country!Hmm

looptheloopinahulahoop · 17/05/2021 18:56

One day I am going to have to go to Burford garden centre...

Standrewsschool · 17/05/2021 18:57

@3scape

Kinsbourne Green where I encountered a LOT of snobbishness about how I spoke, the school I attended and that (shock horror) my parents allowed me, a teenager, to work. In West Common I found nothing but laid back clients who were politely disinterested in my "respectability" and only my actual references.
I’m curious. Which school was frowned upon?

Ha ha at the notion of Bolton being snobby! Though my aunt lived near Rivington and was a bit of a snob, but more about intelligence, she often used to say that "people" were "really not very bright".
Gilly12345 · 17/05/2021 19:04

Bath and Cotswolds.

ScottChegg · 17/05/2021 19:07

@ivykaty44

Coventry

and id agree not everyone in the Cotswolds is filthy rich, but it does help as housing starts at £500k

Which part of Coventry is snobby?! Confused
wooo69 · 17/05/2021 19:10

I don’t think Edinburgh is snobby, my sister lives there. She has been there 30 years, lived in Morningside until 2 years ago, now in Juniper Green.

I love Burford Garden Centre! I always go there when I visit my parents (who live in the snobby Cotswolds). It's posh, but I wouldn't say it's snobby; the staff are always nice. Amazing houseplant collection.
pourmeanotherglass · 17/05/2021 19:13

Mumsnet??

MilkRunningOutAgain · 17/05/2021 19:20

Old Amersham, Bradford on Avon, Chelsea

MilkRunningOutAgain · 17/05/2021 19:20

& mumsnet, I agree

JustJustWhy · 17/05/2021 19:20

I knew a family in the heart of West Kirby who always ended their address with the proud flourish of "Caldy". They did NOT live in Caldy.

West Kirbonians are all a flutter now that some teenagers have bought black puffa jackets and cycle about the place a bit.

Harls1969 · 17/05/2021 19:21

CBA reading the whole thread so I'm not the first to say it...
Mumsnet!

Harls1969 · 17/05/2021 19:21

Yep, definitely not the first Grin

Cheltenham

Yes, here's a particularly snobbish corner of Cheltenham:

Has anyone mentioned Market Harborough in Leicestershire ?

Everydayiwakeupanditsmonday · 17/05/2021 19:30

@Sparklingbrook

Pershore? Confused
I can’t see it with Pershore either! Compared to much of Worcestershire/ Gloucestershire Pershore is one of the least snobby places in my experience.
ivykaty44 · 17/05/2021 19:31

ScottChegg

def bell green

Everydayiwakeupanditsmonday · 17/05/2021 19:33

@Shimmyingmetacos

PermanentTemporary Tonbridge used to be the most unsnobby place ever until very recently, now massive influx of Londoners wanting the countryside and schools. I’d say Tonbridge still definitely much friendlier and down to earth than Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells but I fear not for long
Wow really- it was always distinctly unsnobby compared to those two places. I feel sad that it’s becoming Sevenoaksy!
PrimoPiatti · 17/05/2021 19:40

Durham, oustandingly smug middle class, even worse than Bath....

ThewaterlilliesofGiverny · 17/05/2021 19:40

Its funny how most if the folk in snobby places have a nearby town they look down on so Market Harborough looks down on Lutterworth, Sherborne on Yeovil, Twickenham on Hounslow, Horsham on Crawley, Winchester on Eastleigh etc.
