Next door asking for WiFi password

Just want to start by saying I would do anything for anyone but I’m not quite sure we have done the right thing. Last night next door knocked on asking if they could have the WiFi password. I didn’t answer as I was upstairs, so DP did and he gave it her. Now, they aren’t my favourite people (putting that nicely) I put a thread a bit back saying how much of a nightmare they are. Not really sure why DP gave it her to be honest. I’m really paranoid now they have it. Does anyone know if they could do anything dodgy with it? I might be sounding dramatic but if so, could I change my WiFi password and would that kick them off it?

@tanstaafl it says it’s an android phone. No Google home devices. We do have an Alexa but that comes up as Amazon. Dp doesn’t seem to think it’s her as when we changed our WiFi password it kicked off all the devices in our house. But there’s no other thing it could be. Especially with it coming up as a phoneConfused I’ve told dp he can sort it out though considering this is all his fault!

This should answer your question appuals.com/fix-unknown-strange-devices-showing-network/. It's all harmless.

Wouldnt give password to anyone.
Tell your partner not to do again and change as previously advised.

Ginger1982 · 20/05/2021 12:56

Did she ever come back??

1WayOrAnother2 · 20/05/2021 18:48

I hope you solved the problem... and didn't have to confront the neighbours again!

Sparkles556 · 21/05/2021 22:05

@Ginger1982 nope! Although last night she had a house party and kept me up until 2am🙃 So I’m hoping there is still time yet so I can tell her where to goGrin

2am!
Well, I expect you had lots of noisy little jobs that needed doing from 6am this morning?

Sparkles556 · 22/05/2021 16:00

@1WayOrAnother2 Well I fancied listening to a bit of music on Alexa👀

I expect Alexa has a good range of tunes for bouncing people out of their hangovers?

Did you see the BBC article on a couple whose wifi password was hacked... and who were then raided by the police looking for child/porn downloaded from their IP address?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-57156799

'Did weak wi-fi password lead the police to our door?'

(Glad your neighbours were just CFs and not truely evil OP)

Months later that family are still feeling the effect and this is on their children's record at school etc.

Clearly, those passwords are there for a reason.

I also thought of this thread when I read that article!
