Next door asking for WiFi password

Just want to start by saying I would do anything for anyone but I’m not quite sure we have done the right thing. Last night next door knocked on asking if they could have the WiFi password. I didn’t answer as I was upstairs, so DP did and he gave it her. Now, they aren’t my favourite people (putting that nicely) I put a thread a bit back saying how much of a nightmare they are. Not really sure why DP gave it her to be honest. I’m really paranoid now they have it. Does anyone know if they could do anything dodgy with it? I might be sounding dramatic but if so, could I change my WiFi password and would that kick them off it?

Posting to bookmark and following with interest to see if anyone can come up with any ideas about how to deal with this situation OP. Seems a tough one with no obvious answer even with the collective wisdom of MN, 14 pages in and counting.....I for one am totally stumped about what, if anything, you could do in this situation.

KaptainKaveman · 11/05/2021 18:26

I think you should share your WiFi. Don't be a meanie, OP. Wink

@DishingOutDone

And the wee donkey?
A whole stable full of them.
OmniversalSpecies2021 · 12/05/2021 01:57

When I changed the password yesterday, it knocked me and dp off ours and we had to enter the new password. Will that have happened to her?
Yes.

OmniversalSpecies2021 · 12/05/2021 01:58

There is an option where you can hide your actual broadband name (SSID) so it doesn't appear on anybodys list when they search for local wifi

OmniversalSpecies2021 · 12/05/2021 02:01

When she knocked on she showed dp her phone screen with all the different WiFi codes( if that’s what you even call them)and asked if she could have the password
Those would be the SSID's - broadband/internet 'name'.
And you can usually guess what household/distance by the strength of the signal.....

BlueVelvetStars · 12/05/2021 03:26

well done OP, she has been very rude. Flowers

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 12/05/2021 08:32

There is an alternative that I don't think anyone has suggested. If you cover the exterior wall of your house with aluminium foil it will act as a Faraday cage, and your neighbours will no longer be able to pick up your WiFi signal.

I think it would be easier to change the password - she’s not had that suggested yet.... Wink
steppemum · 12/05/2021 16:43

Next step is to change their wifi name to

OUR WIFI NOT FOR CHEEKY NEIGHBOURS
or
PAY FOR YOUR OWN WIFI

and see if she comes round to ask for the password.

1WayOrAnother2 · 12/05/2021 16:53

Clearly OP you need to CHANGE something...
the neighbours?
the husband?
the house?
Confused

Or is there something easier (that no-one else will have thought of in all these pages Grin
