My child has such big feet!! Anyone else?

Before anyone jumps down my throat for giving her body image issues, this is light hearted and I never say anything to her! But, I have an 8.5 year old DD and she has officially reached an adult size 4 in shoes - she is quite tall (91st centile - currently about 137/138cm tall) but even so these are big feet aren't they ? I'm a foot taller than her and only a size 5!
She's relatively likely to be an earlyish developer but hasn't yet had a giant growth spurt. So, can feet have a growth spurt before the rest of the child? Is she going to end up with gigantic feet? None of it matters of course, other than the endless cost of her growing out of shoes, but I'm interested to know if anyone else's kid has such big feet at such a tender age (on the plus size she's an outstanding swimmer - perhaps it's because she has natural flippers ;-) )

Only a size 4?! My dd just turned 10 last month and wears a size adult 7?! I don’t think that’s even normal 😕😱

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 07/05/2021 12:30

DD is 9, and has absurdly wide feet - they are are wider than the widest size Clarks do. She's tall and really skinny everywhere else, it's weird!

3littlemonkeys82 · 07/05/2021 12:34

I have two kids at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
Ds age 7 in an adult size 3... massive.
Dd age 6 in a tiny size 8. When she started nursery and needed black shoes in a size 5 we struggled to get ones without a first walker soft sole 🤣
Stand the pair of them next to each other it's like little and large, no one believes theres only 14 months between them.

I was size 4 at nine. I'm now size 6 1/2 which I think is pretty average

haha - an adult 7, I can see that being DD to be honest!

My mum has this! She is tiny of feet, actually she is just generally tiny. But her feet are extra super wide.

@BerniesMittens

I was size 6 shoe at 8. I'm now a 7.5 shoe at quite a lot older! Grin

It made school shoe shopping an interesting time as 6 was deemed to be adult size and styled accordingly. Smile

It's this as well. She wants the Alice style shoes like her friends but they're increasingly hard to get hold of in the adult/almost adult sizes.

Same goes for her clothes really - As she's generally quite tall she's getting to the end of 9-10 clothes, and once they're bigger than that they're quite grown up styles.

They are massive tbh, I’m worried about how much bigger they are going to get as most women’s shoes stop at 8, some places do 9 if you’re lucky 😬

Maybe her feet will stop soon and the rest of her will start growing?! This is my current theory on my DD although who knows!

My son is 9 and has adult size 9 feet! He is also the tallest in his class by quite a bit. My eldest is 13 and a size 12.

lonel · 07/05/2021 12:56

My dd11 used to borrow my shoes. Used to because they're now too small for her!! She's a 41 (7 1/2?)

Port1aCastis · 07/05/2021 13:06

My dd was in adult size 5s at 9 she's 22 now and is size 9 and is 5ft10ins tall. Im 5ft9ins and take a size 8. As far as I can remember (got rid of him years ago) dds father is 6ft3ins and size 13 adult mens. Dd is a beach lifeguard and has been swimming since she was very small so in her case I think the size of her feet is genetic

Autosavepassword · 07/05/2021 13:14

My year 6 daughter has adult size NINE feet.

Seeing as I am 6 foot and DH is 6 foot 5 she's not going to be short that's for sure. I keep telling her she needs big feet for balance because she is so tall.

Her feet are big because she'd going to be tall right! With such tall parents that is almost certain :-) My DH and I are 5'6 and 6.0 so only slightly above averages - I'm pretty sure she'll stop growing quite young like I did but again, what do I know!

My DD always had massive feet growing up.

She's 14 now and a size 6 at 5 foot 3. (Same as me) so they've equalled out now.

IhaveMyMoments · 07/05/2021 13:33

Dsc is same age and same size. And age 13 clothes.

DelurkingAJ · 07/05/2021 14:09

I had size 8 feet by year 6 and stopped there. I was also about 5’7” (am now 5’10” and had stopped growing by 12).

DS1 is not quite 8.5 and at Easter was a 3 heading for 3.5 in shoes. I feel your pain. DS2’s feet (just 5, wearing 13.5) are larger than DS1’s were at the same age.

These quick growing kids are pricey arent they! My DS is almost 6 and is a 1/1.5 now so I expect he is going to be the same.

Dd2 has had the opposite problem she is now 24 with size 1 feet .
Great for cheap trousers. Really expensive for anything else

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 07/05/2021 14:17

I was a size 4 at your daughters age too. And I was really tiny too so quite out of proportion. I’m only a size 7 now though so they didn’t carry on growing past age 11 or so from what I remember and I shot up in height very aged about 13 to balance me out a bit Grin

wishywashywoowoo70 · 07/05/2021 16:00

My DD8 is almost in a 4 too

SquashMinusIsShit · 07/05/2021 16:05

Here 🙋🏻‍♀️

DD is just 9, also about 135cm tall & size 3.

I was size 7 at 13/14 but didn't finish growing until 18/19 (but I'm still not tall or big boobed enough to need size 7 feet 😁)

AcornCups · 07/05/2021 16:26

DH has enormous feet, size 14. When DS was born I asked the midwife
if he had big feet, he did. He has ended up size 13 as an adult.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 07/05/2021 17:11

I was in a size 7 by the time I was 11 and as an adult I'm now 5,7" and a size 8. Sometimes feet just grow faster.

thetall · 07/05/2021 18:28

In my case too, my feet grew much earlier than the rest of the body. I guess I was around size 4 at 9 yo. But they stopped at 7 (I’m 5’10”).

As concerning predicting the size, there is just no way.
However - just for fun! - you can try this site heights.altervista.org/

It worked very well with my height but guessed wrong by 1.5 size for shoe size Hmm
