Mourning food from your childhood that you can’t get anymore

I’m 10 weeks pregnant and having some very random cravings, unfortunately for stuff it’s impossible to get my hands on now! Specifically Birds Eye boil-in-the-bag chicken and mushroom casserole, Sainsbury’s cucumber relish, and Gino Ginelli tutti frutti ice cream.

Anyone else grieving for the amazing food of their youth that is now a distant memory?

You could also buy it in individual pots, and you put boiling water on to make a kind of fruit jam/compote, then sprinkled the crumb stuff on top.

I think you can still get viscount biscuits

LargeInCharge · 07/05/2021 13:14

You can still get mint viscount biscuits ... but not orange viscounts. There’s lots of items on this thread that you can still buy in supermarkets 🤷🏼‍♀️

I loved those! Especially the cobweb.

Where the sweets individually wrapped and came in flavours of Coca Cola, fizzy Cherry, then an apple one with a caramel centre and a strawberry and cream one ?

I was addicted to those sweets , this was back in the 1970s and no idea how long they made them for

So much more of a choice of chocolate bars years ago too. [/quote]
Blobs!

Salt and vinegar Quavers.

They were so salty, they turned your tongue white!

lollipoprainbow · 08/05/2021 00:00

I'm pretty sure I've seen cucumber relish in Morrison's with the sweet corn relish ? You can still buy cherry drops I always have a packet in my drawer at work !

Dragonfly3 · 08/05/2021 00:20

Dark and Golden choc ice
I loved Romany snd Gypsy Creme biscuits too!
Terry’s did a chocolate bar in the late 80s in an orange wrapper with toffee and crunchy bits in, can’t remember the name of it now. It might have been a Terry’s Crunch?
Assorted Toffos - the banana one was my favourite

Dragonfly3 · 08/05/2021 00:24

And Golden Cup chocolate bars! I preferred the small finger shaped one to the larger bar with squares. Mmmmmmmmmm

goldielockdown2 · 08/05/2021 00:49

Yesss to so many of these.
Mine are: findus pizza fingers

Iceland and Morrisons both used to do a frozen Mediterranean vegetable lattice pie in a tomato sauce, both versions were so nice.

Corner shop/sweet shop big chocolate eggs in a really thick sugar shell.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 08/05/2021 07:49

About a hundred years ago, McDonalds did a special edition pie, with strawberries and custard inside instead of apple, (might have been for Wimbledon or something?). They were absolutely delicious; I used to drive in to town especially just to get one. After a short period of time they disappeared, never to be seen again. I still live in hope they'll bring them back - apparently you can get them in various places abroad.

goldielockdown2 · 08/05/2021 10:20

McD's veggie nuggets were the stuff of dreams

strugglingwithlife · 08/05/2021 14:57

I completely forgot about toffos

gerbilfur · 08/05/2021 15:52

Muller posh corners, especially the champagne and strawberry and the after 8 one.

Mississippi mud pie Corner

This spray cheese spread they used to make when I was around 10, so 1992?

Campino sweets

Secret bars and the mint crisp dairy milk

Sooo many things. Why do they take them away 😢

WestendVBroadway · 08/05/2021 17:07

Am I the only person old enough to remember when KFC did barbecue ribs? They were bloody lovely .

theo12 · 08/05/2021 17:30

Anyone remember those ice cream sauces magic something you use to put on and it went hard?!

Linz13 · 08/05/2021 17:36

Heinz Treacle sponge pudding in a tin (with Birds custard) my idea of heaven....miss it soooooo much.

JillinSwindon · 08/05/2021 17:37

Vesta Chow Mein with flat noodles. You fried them in hot oil and they frizzled up and went all curly - fascinating! My brothers and I cooked those as teenagers if our parents weren't there.
Also - hazelnut yoghurt with real bits of hazel nut in them. Why can't you get those any more? If it's an allergy thing people just don't need to go near them.
