Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?

Basically i can't chose what i want in my kitchen and it's driving me insane!

I think i've chosen a quartz worktop (calacatta with a thin additional vein of copper in it) and i think i've chosen a magnet cabinet style (tatton) but for life of me i don't know what colour to chose for the floor and to be honest can't chose the colour of the cabinets either!

If i go with a white floor to echo the quartz will i regret it? At least white/white means the cabinet colour will be easier to chose? No?

Heeeeeelp Grin

DO NOT GET A WHITE FLOOR!
I had a white bathroom floor and it was covered in visible fluff, dust and hair within an hour of washing it. Replaced it with heavily patterned tiles and it is so much better. I can't imagine how awful it would be to have a white floor in the kitchen, especially with pets and children around.

Getting a B and Q kitchen - poor quality and mediocre sub-contacted fitters.

I'm torn about getting a boiling water tap. Very convenient, but thinking of all the little things I do while waiting for the kettle to boil mostly mindlessly staring at the garden, to be fair I wonder do I really need it to be faster.

We had a white tiled floor in the kitchen of our last house. We lived there for 28 years and brought up our family with all their friends visiting and a border collie and 2 cats and a cat flap directly into the kitchen.

It was a fabulous floor, and we loved it. Yes it got dirty, but it was never a problem because it was so easy to clean and looked fabulous most of the time, even on the day we moved out. I miss that floor!

I think the type of white tile might be important - these were smooth, non-glossy ceramic tiles with no grooves or surface texture to trap dirt. They were laid diagonally, chevron style with grey grout. They weren't expensive (Homebase or Wickes or equivalent) and were fantastic.

I got a white floor in a hall and regret it.

I got white cupboards in the kitchen and kind of regret them...they show up every mark, splash, drip and fingerprint!

We have same type calacatta with bronze veins you are planning and have black tiled floor as didn’t change the flooring. The bronze veining is really lovely. The kitchen is brighter because the light really bounces off the worktops. We have combined with modern white shaker style cupboards that have a very thin 1cm rail and flat medium oak cabinets.

Don’t get a white floor. We’ve got white glossy tiles in the bathroom. Absolute pita to keep clean, Lasts about 3 seconds and they look dirty again.

We’ve got wood effect plank tiles in a pale colour in other bathroom and they look great.

Oooh thumbs down for a B&Q kitchen ... interesting.

What do you all think of this floor sample? Is it matte enough to be livable with? There is a variation of colour which is hard to see in the pic. Does it go with the calacatta do we think? They'll never actually touch like this obvs, the (i don't know what colour yet) cabinets will form a barrier. This flooring is only £10 per sq mtr.

Just noticed you can see a coffee ring on calacatta Grin It really is easy to clean so far!

butterry that sounds lovely. Can you post a pic? I'm glad to hear you feel the light bounces around well. We've got to block up a window to do this kitchen and light is a concern. Another thing which is putting me off the grey/blue tbh.

And this, just out of interest, shows the other calacatta - the ''bianca'' - sample with another flooring sample, a pale travertine effect porcelain tile. This flooring was £9 per squ meter! I thought it might be too 'busy' though, with a calacatta.

Small dishwasher. Should have got a bigger one. It takes 3 hours to clean and needs to be on 3x per day if all four of us are in for all our meals. Total pita. Should have insisted on a bigger one

@Mistressinthetulips I would recommend a boiling water tap. We hadn’t ordered one, had a last minute dither whilst the kitchen was being fitted and bought one. No regrets! I don’t often drink hot drinks and even I’m pleased we did it Smile

Re flooring: I was so happy to say goodbye to our smooth, dark grey floor tiles. Everything showed up, I would vacuum three times a day, plus mop and it still looked rubbish within half an hour. We now have karndean and a robovac Smile

So with Magnet pebble, that pale mat tile and the white/gold calacatta it might look a bit like this:

hmm. Probably safer than the blue/grey.

Reminder of the (beautiful) blue/grey:

I think this thread is now just my chaotic thought process ! Blush

Re: boiling water tap, we've dithered as well. Read good things and bad things. Good things are obvious, bad things were mostly about breaking a lot.

Love the flooring sample! Think it won't show the dirt and dust as its not a solid colour.

As for the colour of the cabinets, go with what you love. Who cares about trends?! I fitted our cashmere kitchen last autumn and I love love love it. Was tempted to go with a safer colour/tone but we only live once so I went for it, and I'm so pleased I did! We have dusky pink walls and it looks just as I imagined when I was at the planning stages.

Oooh @SIHastingsLiketheBattle cashmere sounds lovely :) And dusky pink is my favourite colour! Grin

Are the cabinets this sort of colour?

I love your ethos of go for it. And i agree! If it was purely down to what i love most it would be the darker kitchen, but i do love light and large airy spaces. It's so easy to see pictures of these wonderful kitchens (re Tom Howely pics) and forget it's all artificially lit or photographed next to a massive showroom window. I really think a blue/grey might absorb too much light in my set up. Sigh. I have got quite a big run of floor to ceiling cabinets on one side ...

I'm leaning more towards the pebble today.

We're finding it really hard to pick colours too. Left to me I'd have gone for pebble or similar but DH likes stronger colours. We're possibly going for Fairford green from Howdens, which is a nicer green in reality than this computer generated image of our kitchen. We havent quite ordered yet, and im still dithrring whether to switch to a lighter colour.

Heya, I painted by kitchen to be navy blue bottom cabinets, white too cabinets, with faux granite effect worktops. For the floor, recently had marble effect porcelain tiles laid (they are white but glossy so hoping they will be easy to clean - can’t comment on this as not needed to clean the floor yet as only had them 2 weeks). The white floor really makes the room look a lot bigger as it reflects light so worth it in my opinion

PM me if you want a pic :)

my sister has light coloured marble effect vinyl and it's great. doesn't show up much dirt, is warm underfoot and has a tiny bit of bounce so that crockery doesn't necessarily break.

Where are your flooring samples from op? You’re doing very well to find prices that low per square metre

I insisted on a light floor with pale grout. It was a massive fucking mistake and I've regretted it every day for the last 6 years. It looked beautiful for about two days but add a busy family and a couple of hairy dogs and it's a bloody nightmare.

@Laiste that's exactly the colour. Looks a lot different to that pic in my kitchen though. You're right, the exact colour and configuration of your actual kitchen means nothing you see in photos/pictures will resemble what you get in the end. We've a large south facing room and it can take a bit of warmth without it feeling dark.

Are you able to get samples of the door colours you like? We did from DIY kitchens and it massively helped with decision making, as we could place them against colour swatches on the walls/flooring samples and see them in different lights.
