Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?

Basically i can't chose what i want in my kitchen and it's driving me insane!

I think i've chosen a quartz worktop (calacatta with a thin additional vein of copper in it) and i think i've chosen a magnet cabinet style (tatton) but for life of me i don't know what colour to chose for the floor and to be honest can't chose the colour of the cabinets either!

If i go with a white floor to echo the quartz will i regret it? At least white/white means the cabinet colour will be easier to chose? No?

Heeeeeelp Grin

Sorry @EversoDelighted, your post only popped up after i posted mine.

The whole thing has texture. Grouting ect. I'll take a pic in the morning. It's a bit too shiny to be honest. Flagstones like that would be matte. But the light really bounces off it and in a big space i think that would show it up for the fake it is Grin

The kitchens in the above link .... wow.
This link shows a kitchen (by the same designer) in F&B parma grey with the most beautiful flooring. sigh.

I'm having my kitchen done, and am going with Malmo ('luxury vinyl') wood-effect flooring. Apparently it's easy to keep clean.

Am I correct in saying, lino, vinyl etc all all pretty much the sake thing, different types of plasric ??

Lemonmelonsun · 28/06/2021 16:51

I was going too ask if the cartoon one was shiny or not, for me that's a good thing as it maybe easier to clean.
Did you link to it earlier? It's lino?

Laiste · 28/06/2021 17:14

@Lemonmelonsun Vinyl is just another word for plastic.
So you can get 'clicky floor' which comes in 'planks' which they tend to call ''luxury vinyl''. Really good wood effect these days. Got it in our living room, you can see it in the first pic here.
You can get vinyl tiles which you stick down (my next sample i'm waiting for is one of these i think). I think these tend to be for stone/tile effect mostly.
Then there's sheet vinyl (or lino) comes off a roll. That's what the flagstone effect stuff is.

If i'm wrong or can add anything anyone feel free to correct Grin

Pics of it: I've tried to bend the sample a bit to show how shiny it is. Close up to try to show texture.

Here's the link again.

i feel bad calling it cartoony. The colours are really nice. I just feel it's a bit too eye catching for me. I just want a fairly featureless stone look pale floor.

Oh, link not working.

I posted it on Fri 25-Jun-21 09:22:19. That one worked :)

Thanks op, I actually like that, is there a proper name or link, my only issue is that it looks a little thin...

Lemonmelonsun · 28/06/2021 17:19

X post thank you Flowers

Laiste · 28/06/2021 17:21

It's quite thick and spongy. Nice underfoot. Hang on .....

Floor sample has arrived. I really like it! Looks pretty realistic and is nice and plain enough.

So these are the F&B colours i've chosen to work with for the cabinets. (plus the new floor sample and an idea of a white quartz.)

Thinking of having a lighter colour on the island than the main units.

Except their island is darker obvs ...

I like the Sky Light and Light Blue (blue is my favourite colour). The Slipper satin with that quartz and flooring might not be enough of a contrast?

Laiste · 01/07/2021 09:36

@EverythingDelegated thank you. i agree about the contrast.

So i've chopped up the plaster board into handy squares and here's what i've been playing with this morning. (excuse scuzzy towel it's used as dust sheet now)(needed to stop looking at it all against wood because there wont be any wood in the kitchen, the walls will be white).

The Parma Grey is lovely isn't it? It's pretty much blue! But that's F&B for you.

''islands'' are off to the right or left.

Here, out of interest, is Skylight and Light Blue next to each other in flat daylight. Neither are very blue! The colour is right, but the camera has upped the contrast a bit, they are more alike to the naked eye than it looks here.

It's amazing how different paint looks in different lights and at different times of the day. The pics from yesterday were taken in west facing afternoon light with sun shinning outside. Today's are east facing morning light with no sun. Skylight looks totally different!

I think i'm there though.

  • The limestone look square vinyl floor tile.
  • A plain white quartz.
  • Light Blue or Parma Grey for main cabinets.
  • Skylight or Slipper Satin for the island (depending on main cabinets).
  • Plain splash back.
  • Painted wood architrave on white chimney breast to match cabinets.

And i'm happy. All these colours go with the rest of the house and will be easy to flow on from into the dinning room when the time comes to pick for that.

So farewell to navy, cashmere, Tom Howely dark grey, the real stone floor, the white floor, the flag stones, the wooden floor, all the swirly quartzes, the star tiles, the wooden beam and the brick splash back.

Sure now? 😆 Only joking!

I love the Parma Grey. ❤️

EverythingDelegated · 01/07/2021 11:19

Parma grey and Sky Light go well together I think. We have a similar colour scheme in our bedroom, I will take a photo later if it's not too messy

GrinGrin I know Horsemad, I'm sick of myself at this point! GrinGrin Such a relief to get there. Love the parma grey too. It's spot on. How's yours coming?

@EverythingDelegated ooh yes, lets have a nose :)
I think it will be PG on the mains and SL on the island.

I wont abandon my thread by the way. I'm waiting to see @EversoDelighted's kitchen and hoping to see how @Orangeinmybluelightcup is getting on.

Just casting a quick eye back over my thread i want to thank @SIHastingsLiketheBattle and also @Chasingsquirrels (i think?), for encouraging me to go with DIY and saving us so much ££! When i look at what Magnet were charging ..... !

I haven't taken any pics of the space right now as it's so embarrassing Blush but when we start taking down the last wall in a couple of weekends time i will take some proper 'before' pics and add some as we go.
