Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?

Basically i can't chose what i want in my kitchen and it's driving me insane!

I think i've chosen a quartz worktop (calacatta with a thin additional vein of copper in it) and i think i've chosen a magnet cabinet style (tatton) but for life of me i don't know what colour to chose for the floor and to be honest can't chose the colour of the cabinets either!

If i go with a white floor to echo the quartz will i regret it? At least white/white means the cabinet colour will be easier to chose? No?

Heeeeeelp Grin

We have got a kitchen which has been stripped, rewired and replastered, mist coat of paint on today. It it also chock full of boxes containing kitchen cabinets, hopefully fitting starts tomorrow.

It has been a little stressy not having a kitchen, we have quite a good camping set up in the front room (fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, kitchen table and chairs) but it is cramped, somewhat disorganised and food choices are very limited.

OH it's a bloody nightmare here @Lemonmelonsun! (Thanks for asking Grin)

We are STILL piddling about with the bank trying to sort this top up loan. Tonight we are hoping we have sent the last of the documents they are requesting. Honestly - considering we already have a mortgage with them and the house is now worth literally 10+ times what we owe on it, we are having to jump through a ridiculous amount of hoops. It's very depressing.

My DIY kitchen is still in it's DIY basket on the DIY website Hmm

We have just had a nice week away. And we have now got skirting boards on in 2 of the bedrooms and the lounge. And some architrave. And we are forming a plan for the front garden, which still has a few 4 foot deep open trenches through it Hmm

How's everyone else doing? :)

I'm getting more and more confident with DIY kitchen now, have you seen dream kitchen and bathroom on chanel five! Some amazing kitchens but I saw a DIY kitchen too and it did look great.

How's it going op, have you ordered yet!

Mumsnet is great for reviews. Google Howdens kitchens mumsnet and there's lots of chat about them.

I'm with EverythingDelegated - we didn't get past the initial stages with our local howdens because the service was so disappointing from the off. They didn't listen to me at all and made a ludicrous suggested plan. I strongly believe that the service you receive in any of these places depends on who happens to work in your local branch. They are what links you and the products at the end of the day.

The design service we got from Howdens was so poor that it put us right off (we have gone with Wren). As did the pricing complications. We had a Howdens kitchen put in at work a few years ago and it's still in good nick apart from the cupboard door above the kettle where it has swollen and lifted the surface of the laminate.

It's an agonising process, I thought I had settled between magnet and DIY, depending on how much magnet can match DIY.

But someone quite insistent has dragged me back to howdens who have given a reasonable quote, they are a which best buy as well but the lack of transparency worries me but.. Now I've got DIY as a comparison base does it matter m

Be carful on texture floor that's what I've got and it's impossible to clean. It's got teeny groves that hold the dirt as well.

I think the kitchen here is a DIY one. I'll do some pics later.

DH is Hmm at me.

We just can't do minimal, our house is small (Victorian terrace, Coronation Street style). We can't even rearrange the furniture much because walls, windows, chimney breasts and alcoves get in the way. I am gradually learning not to see space as something to be filled with more storage, but its hard.

We're away too, the kitchen has cream tiles with grey grouting.

@Lemonmelonsun i was thinking the same thing! If we'd have put the kitchen in a year ago it would be totally different to what we have planned now.

@EverythingDelegated it's weird isn't it? You long for something to be updated and then start mourning it when it's being done Grin Yes to the bright and huge empty space. When we finished building the living room (18 months ago), and the only thing in it was the fireplace in the middle, it was so beautiful that i mentally ditched 50% of the furniture we had in storage for that room. I keep it minimal in there, and have discovered the joy of big spaces with nothing in them. I keep telling myself just because there's a space it doesn't mean you have to put something in it :)

@Carycy 100% yes. Your post has summed up what i've learned :)

Me: on holiday at the mo in GLORIOUSLY sunny Dorset :) Our holiday house is lovely. Their laminate kitchen floor is a really good pretend flagstone GrinGrin

The main thing with a kitchen floor is it needs to be textured in colour and feel. I got a laminate floor that is rough/matt not shiny like a lot of wood efferent. It’s very heavily textured and shows no dirt. It’s amazing. So go for whatever shade you want but a smooth shiny surface with little colour variation will be a nightmare.
I also got a white top. I don’t regret as I just use bleach spray on it once a week and it comes up new.

I'm feeling a bit sad if truth be told. Our old kitchen had its limitations and is falling to pieces but it has served us very well for 20 years. DCs are a bit unsettled too. Oh and it looks huge, light, bright and airy now everything has been taken out.

Well I think! That delay has helped you come up with the best combo, are you still going with DIY?

Hello :) Still here!

@EverythingDelegated Exciting! Any pics to keep us way behind ones going? :)

@Lemonmelonsun thank you :)

So we're STILL trying to get through the financial hoops to get the money for the rest of our build (inc kitchen obvs). I cannot tell you the amount of stupid events which have meant it's taken this long.

Sure now? 😆 Only joking!

I love the Parma Grey. ❤️

GrinGrin I know Horsemad, I'm sick of myself at this point! GrinGrin
Such a relief to get there. Love the parma grey too. It's spot on. How's yours coming?

*@EverythingDelegated* ooh yes, lets have a nose :)
I think it will be PG on the mains and SL on the island.

I wont abandon my thread by the way. I'm waiting to see *@EversoDelighted's kitchen and hoping to see how @Orangeinmybluelightcup* is getting on.

Just casting a quick eye back over my thread i want to thank *@SIHastingsLiketheBattle and also @Chasingsquirrels* (i think?), for encouraging me to go with DIY and saving us so much ££! When i look at what Magnet were charging ..... !

I haven't taken any pics of the space right now as it's so embarrassing Blush but when we start taking down the last wall in a couple of weekends time i will take some proper 'before' pics and add some as we go.

Parma grey and Sky Light go well together I think. We have a similar colour scheme in our bedroom, I will take a photo later if it's not too messy

It's amazing how different paint looks in different lights and at different times of the day. The pics from yesterday were taken in west facing afternoon light with sun shinning outside. Today's are east facing morning light with no sun. Skylight looks totally different!

I think i'm there though.

  • The limestone look square vinyl floor tile.
  • A plain white quartz.
  • Light Blue or Parma Grey for main cabinets.
  • Skylight or Slipper Satin for the island (depending on main cabinets).
  • Plain splash back.
  • Painted wood architrave on white chimney breast to match cabinets.

And i'm happy. All these colours go with the rest of the house and will be easy to flow on from into the dinning room when the time comes to pick for that.

So farewell to navy, cashmere, Tom Howely dark grey, the real stone floor, the white floor, the flag stones, the wooden floor, all the swirly quartzes, the star tiles, the wooden beam and the brick splash back.

Here, out of interest, is Skylight and Light Blue next to each other in flat daylight. Neither are very blue! The colour is right, but the camera has upped the contrast a bit, they are more alike to the naked eye than it looks here.

Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?

@EverythingDelegated thank you. i agree about the contrast.

So i've chopped up the plaster board into handy squares and here's what i've been playing with this morning. (excuse scuzzy towel it's used as dust sheet now)(needed to stop looking at it all against wood because there wont be any wood in the kitchen, the walls will be white).

The Parma Grey is lovely isn't it? It's pretty much blue! But that's F&B for you.

''islands'' are off to the right or left.

I like the Sky Light and Light Blue (blue is my favourite colour). The Slipper satin with that quartz and flooring might not be enough of a contrast?
