Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?

Basically i can't chose what i want in my kitchen and it's driving me insane!

I think i've chosen a quartz worktop (calacatta with a thin additional vein of copper in it) and i think i've chosen a magnet cabinet style (tatton) but for life of me i don't know what colour to chose for the floor and to be honest can't chose the colour of the cabinets either!

If i go with a white floor to echo the quartz will i regret it? At least white/white means the cabinet colour will be easier to chose? No?

We have white floor tiles in our kitchen - they were there when we moved in - and I hate them. They show every single mark, muddy paw print and dog hair.

We are thinking about kitchen re-done, and we are leaning towards a dark floor - slate effect laminate, perhaps. We have that in the hall and downstairs loo, and it doesn’t show the dirt, washes well, and has lasted at least 2 years without a single blemish.

I think if the kitchen cabinets and worktop are light, it will look good with a dark floor.

I like the sound of your worktop, @Laiste - can I ask what make and design it is, please?

Walnut floor is darker than the laminate we'll have in dining room though ... not sure.

The things I regretted were white grout on the floor. TBH I'm not sure I actually chose that, whines their right mind would do that? and an integrated microwave. I thought it would be good to save the counter space, but it wasted a cupboard and shockingly expensive to replace when it stopped working.

Wilma55 i've heard bad things about keeping wood worktops nice. Also i think i ruled it out because nightmare trying to match the wood laminate. That i thought i wanted back then

Love my pan drawers but do wish I’d put in a few more cutlery type drawers, for my foil, cling film, tea towels folded etc

sunshinesupermum ooooh looks amazing! :) Is that lighter wall cupboards than base units? Magnet man suggested our tall units should be lighter than the island. My head was spinning by then and it was too much!

I have black slate effect tiles and they are a curse. I think gloss look cleaner and if they have a speckled effect through them all the better as you dont notice the dirt as much

HotelChoc yes to both points. Our new downstairs loo - i chose palest grey most shiney tiles in the world. Every time i look in there i see something to sweep! Hair. Cat litter. Just - bits ...?

And yes the wood laminate we chose to run through downstairs is slightly distressed. I love it. (i know how it feels)

Yes, i'm wondering now about a dark slate or something. It's got to butt up against this mid oak you see.

This is the sample STDG (finger for scale) the browny line is actually slightly metalic in the light.

OnlyFoolsnMothers this is fantastic advice! I had to ask all 3 different designers for a cutlery drawer to be put in under the hob and above the pan drawers. I mean - wouldn't that be obvious?

I moved into a house with large white matt kitchen tiles and it is the bane of my life. It is never, ever clean.

A friend has white tiles which also have a slight swirled effect in an orangey colour. Sounds as if it shouldn’t work but it does. She has two boys, a wfh DH and pets, lives in the country and her floor always looks immaculate.

I had black polished slate tiles in my previous house. It always looked clean but I dread to think how filthy it was as I only washed the floor once a week.

I think the key is to get some sort of pattern and texture to disguise the bits of toast crumbs and dust.

We have large white tiles which are bloody awful. They make the room feel stark and they are never clean. I got a quote to replace them but we can't really afford it.

My friend has just had her kitchen tiled with wood effect tiles, they look and feel amazing. In our old house we had Quickstep laminate and no problems with water damage.

Maybe i should just run right through with this mid oak laminate then ...

I suppose it would pick up the coppery vein in the quartz ...

Laiste yes the wall cabinets are white and the lower ones dark green. They do scratch but not that easily and so far scratches on the white aren't showing anything as much as they did (after 20 years!) on the original green glass. I wanted glass because it is heat proof and so easy to keep clean.

Also: added a deep saucepan drawer and cutlery drawer which I didn't have before. Heaven!

Wouldn't have wood work tops btw as they do need a lot of care re oiling which I really can't be arsed to do.

The cabinets are from Howdens through my builder because I wanted dark green for the base units; the white glass worktop and upstand (can be painted any colour you like) is from Putney Glass which is local to me but there are other specialist glass suppliers who make these; the stainless steel sink and splashback were already in situ but easy to find; the flooring is dark wood effect vinyl (also in situ and has been here 20 years!) and the black freestanding fridge and hob/oven are from AO.

It has a white floor and white worktops with the blue/grey units.

I should add we couldn't afford Tom Howely. I was going to copy it as best i can with a more affordable company.

Hard to get that blue/grey though, in the more reasonable ranges. I think that's how the drift away began.
