Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?

Basically i can't chose what i want in my kitchen and it's driving me insane!

I think i've chosen a quartz worktop (calacatta with a thin additional vein of copper in it) and i think i've chosen a magnet cabinet style (tatton) but for life of me i don't know what colour to chose for the floor and to be honest can't chose the colour of the cabinets either!

If i go with a white floor to echo the quartz will i regret it? At least white/white means the cabinet colour will be easier to chose? No?

Heeeeeelp Grin

If you have an air fryer that also takes up a lot of room. Luckily I have deep drawers. My fridge is also just one big unit . We are Tupperware fiends and I always find normal fridge too small. Vegetable and drinks drawers as well. Freezer in utility room. Coloured glass splashback are so easy to clean. Best things ? Pop up sockets on island and waste disposal in sink .

@EversoDelighted

Ah, interesting, we have just specifically chose not to have one of those *@Newnormal99* because I thought it would be annoying having to do a double open every time I want to grab a utensil while cooking, I dip into our current cutlery drawer all the time when cooking and baking.
I had worried about that (but what it looked like won out) but actually it's fine. It's quite shallow so I also have a lot of cooking type stuff in the drawer it sits in as well. I used it for cutlery, foil roll etc and scissors - all quite flat stuff. I got great bamboo dividers from b and q that sit in it perfectly and look designed to sit thats drawer! You can get clips so that by default the inner drawer opens and you press to release but actually I think that would annoy me more!

To be honest I'm happy with the look of one small and two large drawers so going to go with that.

So, this evening has been spent discussing the merits of boiling water taps. We've decided against on cost grounds.

Ah, that was us about a month ago. I read some very mixed reviews about boiling taps. So many said they trundle on being wonderful for the first year or so and then start breaking.

Yes, I asked someone at work who has one today and she was a bit meh. Also we live in a very hard water area.

Laiste · 02/06/2021 21:25

Any news from anyone?

Slooooow going here as we are waiting for the company who are delivering and welding the vertical steel to let us know what date they are coming.

All ground to a halt here, waiting for the builder to get back to us.

Horsemad · 02/06/2021 23:02

Yeah, I've stopped for the moment. Really need to get a design drawn up...

sluj · 03/06/2021 08:25

Stuck here too, still waiting for Windows and lantern roof. Seem to be supply difficulties 🙄

Laiste · 03/06/2021 15:19

Oh lord. The wind is out of all of our sails! HmmGrin

Horsemad who are you going with, have you decided?

It has actually been quite nice having a week off thinking about it!

GinAndTonicOnIt · 03/06/2021 18:12

Haven't read whole thread sorry but

White quartz worktop - absolute love mine

White floor - had this in an old house and it was a nightmare, don't do it!

We have a wood effect tile floor. It's awesome and I would choose it every time. We've had loads of compliments on it.

Splash back - just get pretty tiles. A feature. More quartz is both pricey and boring!

Just to put in my 2cents. We have a Tom Howley kitchen - it is gorgeous but they are a pain in the arse to deal with - everything had to be THEIR way even when you are paying them a fucking fortune! However, if you like the colours they use - they use Farrow and Ball paint so you could find the colour you like and get the doors painted.

Re the boiling water tap, we got one 6 years ago (thought it was a bit if a gimmick but went for it anyway), it's still going strong and I wouldn't be without it, it's amazing the things you use it for that you wouldn't think of. I can highly recommend the qooker ones.

EversoDelighted · 03/06/2021 21:01

Gin I think we have come round to the boiling water, but it is going to be expensive as we have a low pressure hot water system so we have to have the one that costs £300 more Shock. We have ordered the quartz worktop.

Laiste - how are you now after your fall?

Laiste · 03/06/2021 21:48

@EversoDelighted oh bless you. My fall! Well the bruising has now gone from my jaw. Today was the first day there was no pain putting on moisturiser/sun screen so i'm officially all better thank you Flowers I think i was a bit concussed for the first few days though. I did some odd things!

You've ordered your quartz work top!! YAY Grin That's bloody exciting! I too am enjoying the current lull in the kitchen frenzy tbh. I'm meant to be on the look out for an attractive brick which will go nicely with the quartz ... but i've done bugger all about it GrinGrin

@Bakingdiva you have a tom howely kitchen ... sigh. I bet it's lovely :) I have heard they are not the best re: ease to deal with.

I agree actually. The matching big wrap around quartz look is not one i've hankered after at all during all this. For our kitchen it would look too cold.

@Laiste, no nothing decided yet, although we have a local family firm that I may use.

Sorka · 04/06/2021 01:54

I have a white bathroom floor and it’s constantly grubby. It shouldn’t be as I try not to wear outdoor shoes in the house and I live alone but still; grubby. I expect it would be more of a nightmare in a kitchen with cooking and coming in from the back garden if your back door goes into the kitchen like mine does.

Maybe you like housework more than me. 🤷‍♀️

setthecontrols · 04/06/2021 08:07

Our floor is wood effect plank tiles in pale rustic oak.
It always looks clean ( though often it isn'tBlush) and gets a lot of compliments.

EversoDelighted · 04/06/2021 08:18

We haven't confirmed on flooring yet, the original plan was wood effect Karndean or similar, then we found this which we love but are now wavering over. You come up a couple of steps to get into our kitchen and the current beige vinyl (which is nicer than it sounds) shows crumbs because you are lower on the approach and the light shines in on it. I do love this flooring though

Horsemad · 04/06/2021 20:27

Just a couple of pictures of how my kitchen will look. (Hopefully!!).

The first two are similar to my existing layout, except my oven is under the hob but I want the new one at eye level; the third is because I quite like the hinged top cupboard doors (don't know the official name for that style but they remind me of caravan hols when I was a kid!). Smile

Tsk, it's posted same pic twice. Grrr! 🙄
Will try again!

So first above, second here 🤞

And third with caravan upper kitchen cupboard doors!

frugalkitty · 04/06/2021 21:55

Mine's cream and the tiles aren't too bad at all, even with cats coming in and out, but the ivory grout wasn't my best choice. That said, ten years later when I can be bothered it comes up really well when scrubbed with a toothbrush and bicarb! I've deep cleaned it and resealed it a few times over the years.

Laiste · 04/06/2021 22:19

Oooh Horsemad the third one - is that that special worktop .... can't remember what it's called. Like bronze? Is that with pale blue gloss cupboards or is that just how the pic is looking?

All three are lovely though.

@frugalkitty Down with a toothbrush on the grout. That's dedication! The same is happening in our new downstairs loo. White gloss tiles - need a mop over every day or 2, but not too bad. The (white) grout though - big mistake! Hmm

@Laiste, yes it's the Caldeira Zenith. I still love the look of it, those units are a sort of sea green colour I think. I love the whole look of that last kitchen but my bathroom has very similar coloured units, so can't really have same in kitchen! 😆
