Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?

Basically i can't chose what i want in my kitchen and it's driving me insane!

I think i've chosen a quartz worktop (calacatta with a thin additional vein of copper in it) and i think i've chosen a magnet cabinet style (tatton) but for life of me i don't know what colour to chose for the floor and to be honest can't chose the colour of the cabinets either!

If i go with a white floor to echo the quartz will i regret it? At least white/white means the cabinet colour will be easier to chose? No?

Heeeeeelp Grin

Yes, it was the Tidepool Wonder that I thought was the better match.

Silestone sink was grey and totally seamless - looked gorgeous!
We've never had a dishwasher - considering having one in the new kitchen though. 🙂

Horsemad · 24/06/2021 23:38

Oh! I couldn't see that when I posted! 😆 Hmm, that looks good too.

Our sink is coming today, a bit early but I didn't want it to go out of stock. It's a white ceramic undermount, a bit smaller than a butler because it's close to the end of the units and we were told the quartz needed to be at least 6'" wide at each side for strength.

Horsemad Silstone sink in grey - lovely! Are you settled on cabinet colour?

Having spent a while looking at copper colour taps and handles i'm now back to silver/brushed chrome Hmm Easier, to be honest! White sink (style?) and posh silver tap, silver handles.

Found this flooring:
carpetshoponline.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=2901

4m x 7m = under £350. Looks like flagstones, wont be cold and shouldn't show too much dirt. Have ordered sample! Here we go again! GrinGrin

@EversoDelighted what's the flooring you settled on?

In other news I'm really struggling designing my island on DIY. I've got to incorporate this pillar in the bottom left hand corner of it. Pillar is 6 inches square (15cm). Quartz worktop would be cut around it obvs. But the cabinetry - i just can't make it look nice and work because of the funny shape. The whole middle section of that bottom wall is what's being knocked down, so the Island will be on bang in the centre of the view from dinning room.

(for some reason since i put a grey/blue cabinet colour DIY virtual image won't put doors on my corner larder any more ConfusedHmm)

That's really smart Everso :) Interesting about the 6'' quartz thing too. Thank you.

This is our flooring, it's an Amtico type product. I am thinking about colour matching the grey for a splashback behind the cooker and tiling the rest in a paler version (white units).

EversoDelighted · 25/06/2021 10:51

I see what you mean about the pillar, that's a tricky one. Are you planning seating round the island or just storage under?

Laiste · 25/06/2021 11:01

Ah you're going for the pattern Everso! It's LOVELY! What a wonderful feature that will be! Every well designed room has to have something eye catching. Very easy to just have everything 'nice' and end up bland. It's what i struggle with tbh. Yours will be your floor! :)

No not wanting seating ...
Have been mucking about again and come up with this. Ignore the red bit - it thinks there's a wall there but there isn't, it's the big arch.

I have whatsapp'd pics to my quartz man. Obvs you can't thread a big bit of quartz with a hole in it over a pillar so i've asked how he would produce this look.

OP posts:
Laiste · 25/06/2021 11:38

He's answered. He's not phased. ''No probs, make a slot and re-fill it. Site survey will sort it''. OK then! Grin

He's asking about my sink now! Obvs looked at rest of plan and wondered (like a pp here) whats going on, lol.

I said i haven't chosen or designed that bit properly. He recommended a recessed drainer. I'm not sure .... don't the cups just slowly hovercraft into the sink?? Anyone here got one i wonder? I fear i would need a new thread.

Never seen one of those before. I'd be worried about all my crockery sliding down it too but I guess the slope is very shallow

Laiste · 25/06/2021 13:36

Moved the sink now Blush DH will divorce me at this rate!

Op I love that vinyl flooring.
I thought it was flag stones to begin with.

Horsemad · 25/06/2021 20:28

@Laiste, what did you plan originally in the space where you've moved the sink to?

No cabinet colour decided on yet 🙂 The Silestone sink is available in lots of colours, so if I were to go for that I'd hopefully get something that goes with the units.

Love the flag stone effect flooring and your flooring choice too Everso. 👍

Laiste · 25/06/2021 21:35

@Lemonmelonsun it's great isn't it?! I've got a sample coming tomorrow - hope the colour/texture isn't a let down in real life.

If we like the sample DH says we're buying it. Looks like the 4m wide rolls are out of stock in a lot of places and we need that. Exiting! He's very on board with this because it's relatively easy to lay and cheaper than real stone.

Horsemad i've switched the washing machine and the dryer over to where the sink was and the sink to where they were. I thought i couldn't have the sink on that wall but he says i can and he likes it. We can move that wall to fit the sink unit but the other one is governed by the french doors obvs and it was just too much of a squeeze.

Have you got a firm decision on anything colourwise yet? Or are you a bit all at sea still?

Tonight i have discovered something i should have known earlier. DIY kitchens will paint your cabinets in any Farrow and Ball colour Shock

So this is my short list Grin I'm leaning towards Parma Grey.

The flooring is ok ..... it's a bit cartoony though. Like the wicked witches cottage floor Grin

So i've ordered a sample of this:

I think it will look more like this (which is that cheap real stone tile from way back):

It does look pretty realistic in the picture. Is the grouting actually indented or is it a flat surface (thinking in terms of cleaning). We have something similar in our bathroom, a bit more rustic looking, which is 20 years old now and needs replacing but we have been very pleased with it overall.

Laiste · 27/06/2021 22:48

Look at these kitchens.

I love each and every one of them for goodness sake!

I'm tempted to make our island a darker colour than the other cabinets.
