Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?

Basically i can't chose what i want in my kitchen and it's driving me insane!

I think i've chosen a quartz worktop (calacatta with a thin additional vein of copper in it) and i think i've chosen a magnet cabinet style (tatton) but for life of me i don't know what colour to chose for the floor and to be honest can't chose the colour of the cabinets either!

If i go with a white floor to echo the quartz will i regret it? At least white/white means the cabinet colour will be easier to chose? No?

Heeeeeelp Grin

@ EversoDelighted i LOVE the fact you are in a range cooker face book group! :)

The idea of faking a full chimney breast is a) to bring a little gravitas/character/focal point to the room, and b) to hide the bleddy obligatory extractor fan. I hate them. I never turn them on. Might as well have a cardboard cut out of one! It's going up a fake chimney! Grin

@SudokuMania I apologise for not acknowledging your post yet! I keep forgetting. I completely agree - i'm not sure how to fix it. I want a big sink or double sink (no dishwasher) and if i have it all too far to the right i wont be able to stand at it. hmmmm.

Could you put the sink on the wall where the washing machine is?
I would not have those two top cupboards either - you have loads of storage space as it is.

EversoDelighted · 21/05/2021 15:20

Our extractor is going to be disguised as a high cupboard. There's no way I'd be without one, we are open plan and food smells waft right round the house if you don't use it, plus I like the light, I use our current one all the time. It is quite a hot topic on the FB group, people love or hate them.

Ah - the washing machine needs to drain out through that wall as that is the easiest external wall to drain through. The top cupboards - the one on the right will be hiding the new boiler (big combi) (also venting out sideways on that external wall) so i need a matching cupboard on the left for symmetry.

The water pipes for the sink are already in ...

I sat last night and thought the same as you though. Pain in the bum that sink position.

EversoDelighted Your group sounds v amusing Grin It's interesting isn't it how one person/family will use things or a space so differently to another. It's a bit sad but i'd find that part of kitchen design (for other people) fascinating!

Yes I'd like some lights up my fake chimney. DH built a lovely fireplace when he built the living room so although he's all rolly eyed about it i know he's up to this task. I'm very lucky to have him i know Star

Yes, we have a black Labrador, not a good combination.

Laiste · 23/05/2021 15:49

So the sample doors are all packed back up, and with most of my design/colour decisions behind me it's back to basics this weekend with DH and his breaker - digging a square hole in the middle of the floor of the Space Which Will Be The Kitchen. This is the base for the vertical steel.

Sorting finance is underway. Finally. Phone calls have been made and it's all positive so far. 2/3 weeks till the final decision though Hmm

Plumber has taken radiator off the wall which is being knocked down. (steel's got to go up first)

Welder is found. Price sorted.

DH doing something out the back next weekend. To do with kitchen sink drain i think ...

Has anyone got any news or dilemmas to do with pretty stuff?! GrinGrin

Hi @Laiste, I did a bit more kitchen shopping yesterday. 🙂 Did 4 showrooms, inc Magnet & Wickes - the lighting in both of those stores was rubbish, real dingy. 🙄

Saw one kitchen we both liked; it was perfectly fine but I didn't LOVE it...
Interestingly it was gloss and handleless which is what I said I didn't want! Still cashmere though and DH likes that colour, so that's good!

I want to check out a couple more kitchen places but won't get to them for a few weeks yet. One is Wren - my MIL (fussiest person on the planet) had her last kitchen from there 2 years ago. She was very pleased, as was my neighbour who used them a few years ago; has anyone got any thoughts about Wren as a supplier?

EversoDelighted · 23/05/2021 19:39

We have our units ordered with Wren, but we are using our own tradespeople for the fitting. We had designs done by Magnet, Wickes, Howdens and Wren, and Wren did by far the best job of it. We are going for white gloss with handles, so we could have gone with any of them really but the Wren design service has been very good. I have often heard said that they are fine for supply but variable to say the least if you use their fitters.

We're off for our final design appointment tomorrow, for a few last tweaks before it is confirmed. Just trying to juggle delivery dates for it and a range cooker with the builder and a flooring person and a quartz worktop person.

ThisOldSaddo · 23/05/2021 20:01

Black and white floor.

Fucking nightmare. It's actually ruining my life.

Laiste · 24/05/2021 21:50

Horsemad 4 showrooms in one day is pretty good going. Are you making notes/taking pics. I have a tendency to let everything start to blend into one after a hard days looking.

Wren are one of those companies which seem to have a lot of good reviews apart from the odd bad one. iyswim? It's easy to get twitchy and and let the one bad review out of 200 good ones put you off. You're right about the lighting in some of these places!

@EversoDelighted ooh it's getting serious now isn't it! You're where i hope to be in a couple of months. My quartz people keep ringing to see ''if i need anything'' ...

So my news is not so good. I put my foot through the board covering the hole this evening while making dinner and fell really badly. I face planted the oven at full whack as i came down basically. Lucky not to brake my jaw. Cheek and jaw has swollen up and i have a big egg on my forehead. Hurt my knee and my foot (but didn't notice those last 2 till later). I'm ok. DH wanted to take me to A&E but i said no thanks.
:(
Bloody kitchen.

@ThisOldSaddo This is awful to read! Is it the classic black and white chequered flooring?

Here it is. The glorious bastard.

There's more to it, we've created a cloak room and there's a loo too...🙄🙄🙄

ThisOldSaddo · 24/05/2021 21:57

More. It's gorgeous. But the bane of my life.

That floor is stunning, looks amazing @ThisOldSaddo!

@Laiste, sorry to hear about your injury, I hope you feel better soon.

I am making rough notes of places where I've seen things I like and will go back to those once I've weeded out the rubbish! 😆

EversoDelighted · 24/05/2021 23:30

Sorry to hear about your fall @Laiste, hope you make a speedy recovery.

@ThisOldSaddo that is gorgeous but I can see why it's a bastard to keep clean. We are considering this grey and off-white but I'm a bit nervous now

Stillfunny · 25/05/2021 05:39

I have beautiful expensive large white tiles on my kitchen floor with LED lights in the kick board. Big big regret. I have to use my Dyson several times a day and it got even worse when we acquired a black Lab . I recently renovated another property and because of lockdown, only B&Q available. I got the most fabulous floor tiles that look like distressed wood in a mottled white/gray combo. So pleased and so easy to keep clean. Good luck with your remodel , it can be quite fun. One piece of advice , make a choice and stop looking or second guessing.

duckme · 25/05/2021 06:26

I bought a ninja foodi the other day (secondhand). The reviews are all really good but the thing is the size of a peddle bin! There is no cupboard in the world that could fit that in and be useful for anything else so I would have had to live with R2:D2 sitting on the worktop for the rest of time. I sold it the next day.

Newnormal99 · 25/05/2021 06:32

@Laiste

I have a cutlery drawer integrated into top pan drawer - so from outside it looks like 2 deep pan drawers but the top one has an inner drawer you pull out.

It gives me best of both worlds (I love the look of 2 deep drawers)

EversoDelighted · 25/05/2021 07:38

Ah, interesting, we have just specifically chose not to have one of those @Newnormal99 because I thought it would be annoying having to do a double open every time I want to grab a utensil while cooking, I dip into our current cutlery drawer all the time when cooking and baking.

Laiste · 25/05/2021 08:08

@Horsemad and @EversoDelighted thank you. I'm a bit sore this morning and have discovered i hurt my shoulder as well! Getting too old to be falling over Hmm

@ThisOldSaddo It looks lovely! I was thinking of going black and white in the hall. Maybe not then ...

EversoDelighted that's a lovely floor tile. I would have said it wouldn't have showed the dirt too much. But i would have thought that about the black and white! So .... no help, sorry Grin

@Stillfunny again it looks gorgeous, the white floor. I agree about B&Q flooring. It's great :) So many people have thought ours is real wood at first.

@duckme that's a good point about making sure any largish favourite appliances fit in the cupboards! The only big one i have is my beloved KitchenAid (but that's staying out on the island probably)

@Newnormal99 ooh i've not seen that. Now i've got my basic layout on DIY (and had a break thinking about it all for a couple of days) I need to go through all their options properly one at a time now - for cabinets/drawers.

Everso the double opening action is what is putting me off having the washing machine and dryer built in. But then ... Grin

EversoDelighted · 25/05/2021 10:09

Yikes, large appliances! My stand mixer will be staying out but I've got an Instant Pot which currently resides in my pan cupboard and I have opted for deep drawers for pans instead, where am I going to put the IP?!

We have gone for integrated DW but not WM as ours is newish and white (white units). Our dryer is in the shed.
