Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?

Basically i can't chose what i want in my kitchen and it's driving me insane!

I think i've chosen a quartz worktop (calacatta with a thin additional vein of copper in it) and i think i've chosen a magnet cabinet style (tatton) but for life of me i don't know what colour to chose for the floor and to be honest can't chose the colour of the cabinets either!

If i go with a white floor to echo the quartz will i regret it? At least white/white means the cabinet colour will be easier to chose? No?

Hello everyone, busy planning my new kitchen too. I was told that it costs twice as much to get a fitter to lay your LVTs in a herringbone pattern than it does in straight plank style, due to the extra time needed. Does anyone know if that's true?

Mine isn’t LVT it’s just a cheapish standard vinyl from a carpet shop! I believe some LVTs like karndean do need a screed flooring done first so it can costs thousands!

No idea, but I can see that it would be more work. Mine is Polyflor Camaro, laid straight. The chipboard flooring was covered with a plywood layer which was then covered with a screed (think some kind of acrylic) to make it totally smooth. The LVT is then laid on top. I paid about £1,400 around 18 months ago for approx 4m x 8m worth.

I got some samples for Polyflor Camaro and it looks nice but the Trust pilot reviews are atrocious. It would be good to hear some positive feedback

Mistressinthetulips · 19/05/2021 19:01

We have polyflor camero in our bathroom. The fitter recommended it. Only been down around 3 years but I'm very happy with it.

Laiste · 19/05/2021 19:43

Horsemad yes get samples. Def. Then take them to quartz showrooms with you. The DIY one is less pink than we thought but you can see it's much warmer than the dove grey. The calderia would look lovely with cashmere i think! I'm hoping this link works. The first pic is calderia with cashmere.

@tracyon that's our lounge floor - it's B&Q luxury vinyl in rustic oak (iirc) apx £25 sqm? It seems bomb proof and was great to lay. DH and one of older DD's boyfriends laid the whole lounge in one evening (40 sqm). I love it. We chose an affordable one because we're taking it right though downstairs except kitchen. We've got up-opened packs of it all over the place Grin I wouldn't risk it in a watery area.

@sluj yes the herringbone would take longer, more fiddly and more cuts. So more waste.

I ordered a sample of this 'stick down' system for the kitchen. Can be laid straight or herringbone obvs. It's very thin as you can see. Plastic back, literally nowhere for water to go. Would probably need a screed beneath it for us as floor is a terrible mess where walls have gone so lumpy and slight different heights. We'll prob do it ourselves though.

Dogmum's done a good job of attracting me to a sheet vinyl though tbh. I'll have to get out there and have a look.

Thanks very much. Definitely leaning towards Lvt for flooring.

Laiste · 19/05/2021 19:57

@SudokuMania I apologise for not acknowledging your post yet! I keep forgetting. I completely agree - i'm not sure how to fix it. I want a big sink or double sink (no dishwasher) and if i have it all too far to the right i wont be able to stand at it. hmmmm.

We used to have limestone and it was horrible to keep clean, especially the grout as PP said. We have black Karndean now, which I’m much happier with.

Chasingsquirrels · 19/05/2021 20:20

My LVT in the hall has been down 10 years and the same into the kitchen, conservatory and utility 18 months ago. I'm really pleased with it and would definitely have it again.

Horsemad · 19/05/2021 20:24

😟 Unfortunately that link doesn't work for me @Laiste and there's no cashmere on TP's website.

I will have a Google and see if I can see anything. 🙂

JFCO · 19/05/2021 20:59

Light Limestone tiles. Never look clean. And don't start me on the grout. Grrrr!!

any good?
The top pic here is sadly a cropped version of the one in the previous link.

The same pics float all round the internet don't they? I think it's a wicks image originally.

Copper sinks! 😲 There's no end of stuff to choose from!

Thanks for the Pinterest link, it actually does look quite good, doesn't it? I also found the attached.

Am definitely going to investigate this. Need to see samples in my kitchen with the light, etc. I'm lucky it's a very bright room, so lots of light flooding in.

This is cashmere as well i think. Lovely fluted butler sink. Lovely copper tap.

The image of this sink looks gorgeous - but when you start looking at these things properly you see there's NO draining area and it's a wood worktop Confused

I do think a darker worktop (wood or darker quartz) looks nice with the cashmere. 'Specially with a wood effect floor. Lovely balance.

i think my family will actually kill me if i start changing my mind about worktops

starts to change mind about worktops

I don't know if you've chosen already OP but I put these down in my new kitchen recently and they are lovely. They are lovely and light to maximise the appearance of floor space but mottled enough to not show every tiny mark. I am a messy person with three unruly teenagers, a 13 year old dog and 3 cats.
I prefer to be able to see if the floor needs a clean as it's a good reminder but these tiles have absolutely hit the right mark for me.

@SpeedRunParent thank you for that :) That's lovely. Nice big tiles! At the mo i think i'm going wood effect of some description - but if i were still after stone effect that would be exactly what i'd want!

It might already have been said, but have you got a quote from a specialist granite/stone place? My granite worktop was a lot cheaper than any quote from the likes of Wickes/B&Q etc. The fitters were very professional and you could go direct to their workshop. Here’s the place i used, just as an example. They did my parents kitchen too (I think a quartz) which they love.

Horsemad · 20/05/2021 11:34

Thanks @Laiste 😳
This doesn't sound good at all! 😟

I will maybe post in Property/DIY section and ask for any recent tales. Hopefully the fitters are getting more used to it but if the product itself is substandard then that won't help.

One benefit of a compact kitchen is I don't have a huge amount of work surface and will possibly have less in my new kitchen, depending on placement of oven and fridge, so I could look at something of better quality if necessary.

I really must add a diagram of my kitchen when I get time.

Anyway, have you ordered your units yet? Are you going with DIY kitchens or whatever they're called? 🙂

Laiste · 20/05/2021 11:39

Is that Algarve, Northampton @crumpet?

That showroom is the one i went to a few weeks ago, to see the colours. They have a fab reputation for fitting. Tiny showroom but lots of colours. Nice people.

I must admit i have found a slightly cheaper supply and fit company. One in Essex.

I agree it's miles cheaper to go with a specialist company. Having said that they all vary too. Over lockdown i spent god knows how long contacting 10 different specialist companies. Sent them my kitchen plan and asked for a quote. Of those 10, 7 actually replied (Hmm), of those 7, 6 gave a firm price. Between those 6 the price varied by 4k Shock For the same quartz (calacatta bianco), same size. Distance didn't effect price.

My kitchen is sitting in a shopping basket @Horsemad Grin The Clayton in Cashmere.

I need someone at DIY to just go over it now and rectify my inevitable cock-ups and check it will all work ok. Price at the mo is £4778.00. With pilasters !
