Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?

Basically i can't chose what i want in my kitchen and it's driving me insane!

I think i've chosen a quartz worktop (calacatta with a thin additional vein of copper in it) and i think i've chosen a magnet cabinet style (tatton) but for life of me i don't know what colour to chose for the floor and to be honest can't chose the colour of the cabinets either!

If i go with a white floor to echo the quartz will i regret it? At least white/white means the cabinet colour will be easier to chose? No?

Heeeeeelp Grin

What's the reason?

Laiste · 12/05/2021 20:02

Well - i can't work that out!

When I looked through their list they'd put this half arsed sort of corner larder in and so when i wrote back to check how to change door style i mentioned the corner larder and gave the code no. of their proper 2 door diagonal walk-in corner larder (just like magnet's one) and said could you put this on instead please?

and she wrote back and said you change the door style easily by clicking 'change door style' at the top of the list but as for the proper corner larder i'm sorry but ''in this range we don't do that corner larder''.

Confused range?

anyway i've written back and said Noooooooo i need my walk-in corner larder what 'range' does it come in please?

That was at 4pm though so no reply today methinks.

sigh. The corner larder is a game changer.

Black floor tiles.
I clearly remember having an argument with my ex about it. He'd chosen bluey\grey ones and had bought them as they were discounted and he didn't want to miss out on the lower price. I persuaded him to take them back and swap them for black ones that I wanted.
What a bloody ridiculous decision on my part.
Black floor tiles in a kitchen look lovely for all of 10 mins after you've hoovered and mopped. Which you have to do every sodding day (have been known to do it twice a day if having guests in the evening). It's ridiculous in the winter when the cats have muddy paws. Never again.

Laiste · 12/05/2021 22:00

I've found something out. For anyone who still has the will to live on this thread Grin

Here is the WICL shown on the DIY website in FAQ. It's shown in the Malton door style/range.

advice.diy-kitchens.com/customer-questions/walk-in-kitchen-corner-larder-units/

Now the Malton is one of their more affordable ranges - a foil wrap MDF. I'm wondering if the weight of the doors prohibits having one of the thicker/pricier door styles like the ... what am i having? ... oh the Stanbury.

If the worst comes to the worst i'll have the WICL in Malton and the rest of the kitchen in Stanbury. Both shaker styles. Both dark blue. Who's going to notice?

Laiste · 12/05/2021 22:01

@Gobolino80 ooh commiserations :( It's all so much worse when it's something you've insisted on yourself isn't it!

EversoDelighted · 12/05/2021 22:14

Still following Grin. We liked the WICL too but it doesn't work with our layout.

SIHastingsLiketheBattle · 13/05/2021 03:46

Oh wow that's a great price!! I'm sure you can get the WICL in a painted shaker style, just might not be Stanbury. Worth asking customer services. They also make bespoke cabinets if needed which could be a possible solution (get them to match the WICL?)

PerveenMistry · 13/05/2021 03:50

@Neolara

We rented a house with a white floor. It was a. nightmare. But you may not mind cleaning your floor every day, in which case, crack on.

I have an off white floor. It is beyond nightmare. Would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Mistressinthetulips · 13/05/2021 06:37

I really, really want one Grin

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 13/05/2021 06:44

I regret my under counter built in fridge and freezer, they are too small. And my tiled floor which is OK looking but has got chipped. And my units which are white, I wish I'd gone for a colour. Mistakes were made... I also feel the weight of decisions like this op and we're doing out in our extension now so lots more to make. Sympathy!

RollerGirl7 · 13/05/2021 08:26

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GET A WHITE GRANITE SINK!

We scared to put anything in the sink as it shows so many marks

MishMashMummy · 13/05/2021 08:36

My house came with a white tiled kitchen floor and I have never hated anything more. I cried with relief the day we replaced it. It never looked clean. It took hours of hoovering and mopping and a final hand-wipe with a cloth to pick up straggling grub and even then it still wasn’t nice. It showed every cat hair, every speck of dust, every morsel of crumb, every shadow of a footprint.

I’ve never been so happy to see the back of anything as that white floor 🤣

redcandlelight · 13/05/2021 08:54

don't get a sink with folded corners.
the corners never get clean.
and because it's a non-standard size we can't just replace it...

Laiste · 13/05/2021 11:27

@Mistressinthetulips Grin So do I !!!

@EversoDelighted Oh bummer. We're a bit the opposite. Big corner (which at the mo is the sink/drainer/kettle corner) which is crying out for max storage space because all the above is going over the other side. They're ££ but it's the one thing i've remained sure of!

@SIHastingsLiketheBattle i hope you're right. I'm tempted to ring. DH says ring. But part of me likes the fact that all our correspondence with DIY about the order is in writing in these 'tickets' ....

When i log on to the site now the little shopping basket symbol has £5k written next to it Grin I keep thinking WHAT!? and then remembering it's the kitchen and it's really cheap! Grin

@PerveenMistry thank you. Sympathies.

@Orangeinmybluelightcup ooooooh i read your post with cold dread in my heart. No one wants regret. My sympathy. How rotten. How about painting the kitchen doors? Or are they the glossy ones?

@RollerGirl7 do you mean a white composite sink? (as opposed to ceramic?) I've been reading about this problem and it has put me off. What a bloody shame, they look lovely. In old mumsnet threads the best solution for marks on white composite is something called 'Bar Keepers Friend'. Don't know if you've tried it? No idea what it is but lots of people seem to absolutely swear by it for white sinks!

@MishMashMummy thank you, and congratulations on your escape from white floor hell Grin

@redcandlelight ''folded corners'' ... ? What fresh hell is this?? Is this on a stainless steel under counter sink?

So today's news:

  • No answer about the WICL yet. I keep checking.
  • Have had details through from structural engineer of the exact steel DH needs to put in to hold the upstairs up when we knock the rest of the kitchen wall down soon. So that's good.
  • Plumber is coming soon to take the radiators off both sides of said wall, so that's good too.

I was thinking about my WICL in the night.
I must have it.
I will do anything to get it.

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 13/05/2021 11:31

@Laiste I don't hate any of it, it's all very 'nice', (apart from the fridge which I do hate!) but in hindsight I played it too safe, so my advice is be a bit braver and go for something you might love

Laiste · 13/05/2021 11:33

Oh still waiting for Cobham blue door sample, white carerra work top sample and star tile sample.

They're all 'dispatched'. Excited to see them together. I'm hoping it will be ''yes, this is IT. Decision made!'' for the last time.

OP posts:
Laiste · 13/05/2021 11:36

@Orangeinmybluelightcup it does sound nice. Stone floor and white cabinets. I bet the light bounces around beautifully. I wont get that with navy
But yes - this is me right now, trying to be brave. It's such a bloody expensive mistake to make isn't it? Either way!

OP posts:
Orangeinmybluelightcup · 13/05/2021 11:38

Navy is what I wish I'd gone for!

HBGKC · 13/05/2021 12:20

@BeechTreeView would you mind sharing which make/model of zoneless induction hob you bought? I was thinking about a 5 zone one, but maybe a large zone less would be even better...

redcandlelight · 13/05/2021 12:26

excuse the mess.
it's folded and welded (you can see the folds on the underside)

Has anyone regretted getting a white kitchen floor? Has anyone regretted anything they chose for their kitchen actually?
Laiste · 13/05/2021 13:37

Right. I rang. Glad i did, the WICL is available in all styles except an in-frame one (in which case they can suggest a suitable closest match)(for anyone reading in future).

YAY! The lady on the phone was quite keen to find out who exactly had told me i couldn't have it because i absolutely could have it!!

So now i'm doing what i've been putting off and going through the order with a fine tooth comb. I'm trying to add the WICL and at the moment it's telling me off because it's not matching height wise or something. sigh. This is why it's cheaper lol lol

@redcandlelight thanks for the pic. I see now! Would never have thought of that ...

@HBGKC good question. One lurking at the back of my mind too.

OP posts:
Laiste · 13/05/2021 13:41

I've got a question for anyone with a navy/v dark door colour kitchen -

Have you got matching dark carcasses?
If not does the lighter carcass colour peep through the dark doors anywhere?
If you have got dark carcasses, is it really gloomy in your cupboards!?

OP posts:
Laiste · 14/05/2021 13:02

OK so it seems the thing to do is have wood effect carcasses. Looks nice. Negotiating the design tool is quite something!

Half way through my attempt to design my own kitchen the software has had an update and now it's a bit glitchy :( Wont let me see a 3d view of the sink unit end.

No samples yet.
